Let me preface this review by saying that we’ve been at Iberostar Tucan/Quetzal 2 times in the past 2 years. The resort we have in our memory is nothing compared to what it got turned into right now. Here are some points of what made this Iberostar Quetzal vacation a total nightmare:
1. Fire Alarm testing: It routinely had to happen every other day, if not every day, in the middle of the day, while we were taking a nap. Usually it would last about 2-3 minutes or so, which I guess was ok. BUT on the last day, it lasted for 30 uninterrupted minutes (even though when called the front desk they said it should be no longer than 5 minutes). We thought it was all and we can finally rest BUT NO — it still kept going on and off every 1-3 minutes and lasting for 2-3 minutes each time. The total time of this insanity lasted MORE THAN 2 HOURS. So you can imagine, taking a daytime nap was impossible at this place. Maybe they expected us to be at the beach from morning to the evening? I don’t know… Also, turns out that they made housekeeping go and silence the alarm every time it went off, at least that’s what we observed a few times. The management/security didn’t even bother to put the alarm in silent mode or something until we went and spoke to the manager.
2. The first room we were placed in had a strong smell of paint and someone was hammering non-stop in the room next door. Thankfully, we were able to switch the room but the only other available room required us to pay extra $150
