People enjoy coming to the mill to see milling demonstrations and learn about the milling process. Locally, the landmark is a happy site for holidaymakers as a sign that they’re close to the seaside resort area.

Little Marton Mill highlights

The Little Marton Mill is one of the only mills remaining in Blackpool and one of several excellent examples of a historic mill on the Fylde Coast. The mill is officially a ‘gristmill’, which is used to grind corn into flour. After restoration, the mill was given to a charitable organisation in memory of Allen Clarke, local writer and windmill enthusiast.

The structure of the Little Marton Mill is typical of the windmills constructed in the Fylde and features 4 storeys of stuccoed and whitewashed brick. The windmill cap is boat-shaped and features 4 sails. You can enter the mill at the basement level to explore the interior.

Good to know when visiting Little Marton Mill

The Little Marton Mill charges a low admission fee to visit, which is used for maintenance and preservation of the landmark and grounds. You can see the inside of the mill with a private group visit or tour provided by the Friends of Little Marton Windmill.

Outside the windmill, you’ll find over 100,000 crocuses that form a spectacular living artwork and a habitat for local wildlife each spring. The work was created by LeftCoast in partnership with artist Rebecca Chesney and Avant Gardening. When you visit, be sure to check out the crocus and take some photographs.
