It's a spacious, lovely and a very quiet property ideal for a family getaway but unfortunately it was not clean and smelled awful especially the master bedroom when we entered. The utensils were not washed and there was no provision to clean them as well. The sign boards to the location could have been more visible and easier to navigate.

BCC Red Deer Cottage was a pleasure
The two-bedroom cottage was surprisingly large and comfortable. After a very easy check-in at the main BCC building nearby (serving the hostel and cottages alike), it was a simple drive up the dirt & gravel driveway to the Red Deer cottage.. one of a few cottages nearby. The views were lovely, and it was rather private.. while I heard the occasional car head up to cottages further up the hill, I never heard a sound from any visitors. A short drive to attractions around Loch Ness and Glen Affric. While not a major feature of interest to us, the satellite tv worked well. There was no wifi in the cottage itself, although there is wifi available in the common building at the base of the hill. However, the cellular signal (we were on the Three network) was fine for data/phone access. Ample bath towels, kitchen dishes & utensils, and clean bed linens. Cheerful and bright. I would happily stay here again if passing through the Loch Ness area again.

Much disappointment
Brochs House at first looks great however there are many things that are below standard and make it not worth the £150/night. Dishwasher not working (from the guest book this was reported in 2016), cracked tiles in the bathroom along with shower base chipped. Bath side cracked and the sink hot water tap loose & the mirror rusty. The Grill pan is missing the rack. Light bulbs blown & some mains sockets are iffy. Kitchen bin pedal broken and Food left in the microwave. Wi-Fi only available down in the hostel common room

We stayed at Brochs Cottage and thus can only speak of our experience at that particular location. Upon entering the house, an overwhelming animal smell similar to that of a petting zoo barn greeted us. Because it was late (10pm) we were not able to re-book a room somewhere else and were stuck staying here with our young children. Within an hour we saw a mouse running across the dining room floor. There may be a nest right under the kitchen cabinet as the toe kick has a hole in it. All night, we heard the familiar tapping of mouse feet running inside the walls. Mattresses, coasters, oven mitts, even the bowl on the dining room table were all chewed up from little mouse teeth. There were mouse droppings everywhere, which we tried to clean up as best we could. Considering the diseases mouse droppings and urine can carry, this cottage is a huge health hazard to anyone staying there. We have reported the property to the Health and Safety Department at the Highland Council in Inverness. Aside from the mice, the place was filthy, although that is somewhat of an understatement. The shower pan was chipped in dozens of places, there were cracked tiles in the bathroom, the bathroom mirror was coming off the wall, and there was dust everywhere. The place is completely wasted potential due to neglect. The surrounding area is beautiful, and at one point the whole property was probably very pretty. Even the playground is in complete disarray.

Family stay
Got there late and had been snowing. As we didn’t have a 4x4 it was difficult to get up the hill but we got lifted up with our bags and cottage was lovely on arrival so made up for it. We had to leave a day early and so Donald (owner) was awesome and very understanding and charged only for the one night, which was incredibly understanding. Will def return in summer - worth the visit.
