Bangkok Science Museum and Planetarium

The Bangkok Science Museum and Planetarium is an interactive complex with a wide range of activities, exhibits, models, multimedia presentations and real objects. Also known as the National Science Center for Education, the complex aims to educate the youth and general public about science and astronomy. Its fascinating permanent exhibitions are spread around the 4 main buildings – the Planetarium, the Natural Science building, the Science Museum and the Aquatic Life building. Exhibitions include the world of energy, robot technology, the human body and pre-history.

There are some displays with the information given only in Thai, but it’s still interesting for travelling families looking for an informative and fun activity in Bangkok. Plus, it’s easy to reach, being right next to Ekkamai BTS Skytrain Station. Admission costs around 30 baht per adult and 20 baht per child/student.

Bangkok Science Museum and Planetarium highlights

Many of the exhibits feature modern media and some include tests and experiments, with specific activity days available for students and the general public. Highlights include an interactive pirate ship, play supermarket and the world of insects, which are most popular with young children.

The semi-dome planetarium is probably the most popular permanent fixture at Bangkok Science Museum. Opened in 1964, the large planetarium is Thailand's oldest. Since its revamp in 2016, there's a changing program with 360-degree visuals, an in-built fish-eye lens, and surround sound. Shows in English take place on Tuesdays at 10am. Tickets cost an additional 30 baht per child and 50 baht per adult.
