The Omena Hotel Yrjonkatu is one of these reception-less outfits where you get a door and room code by mail before you arrive. The check-in process is therefore very easy and straightforward. My room was really ok, clean, and comfortable. By mistake I had booked a room for four people, and to be honest, that would have been really crowded. I was happy that I was alone ;-)
Bathroom was ok and clean, WiFi worked perfectly. I did not try the breakfast (which was a few blocks away), but I never take breakfast, so I am not a good judge on that.
The surroundings are perfect, right in the centre of Helsinki, steps away e.g. from the Stockmann department sore or the Kämppi bus station.
Some points I did not like:
- It is not possible to open the windows, so the air gets pretty stuffy, especially after a shower
- I tried hard, but I did not manage to switch off the light in the bathroom. I looked for switch everywhere, no luck.
- Biggest minus: With no front desk, there is no possibility to leave your bag after check-out before you leave town. This is really a big disadvantage. They could think about some code-operated lock boxes or similar.
