I booked the Fiesta Inn Ciudad Juarez through Expedia while searching for hotels in El Paso, Texas, USA. To my surprise, the directions took me to Mexico. Unfortunately, I didn't have the necessary immigration documents for my family and myself, nor was the rented vehicle permitted to leave the country. I had to turn back at the Mexico border and book another hotel in the U.S.
I contacted the Fiesta Inn within 20 minutes of booking to cancel, but faced language barriers and disconnects. Further attempts to resolve the issue through their sales contact and numerous calls both by myself and Expedia were unsuccessful. Ultimately, I was denied a refund due to 'no show', despite the clear misunderstanding.
This experience has led me to reconsider using Expedia, as the platform included hotels outside the U.S. without clear indicators, posing potential risks for travelers without proper documents. I am gathering similar cases for legal action regarding these misleading practices and request that anyone with similar experiences contact me to support this cause. I will also pursue a refund from Fiesta Inn for a booking I believe was made in error.
