Uranienborg is a really great district, but it also bears the mark of having been a functionary district in its previous life.
The large farms that lie along streets such as Oscars gate, Camilla Colletts gate and Holtegata, stand side by side with detached city dwellings, and reveal that this was once a fairly rural place. The location between the castle and Frogner means that it is close to more or less the entire center. That means shopping, the city's best restaurants and of course top-notch culture and entertainment.

Bunker Sauna is located in Østmarkneset by Ladestien. It is a bunker from World War II, which creative architecture students from NTNU, with support from the municipality, have turned into a sauna.
Previously, Østmarkneset was an abandoned quay facility from the war, but architecture students have now given new life to the abandoned buildings and transformed the area into a popular meeting place for the city's residents. Alongside the sauna is a recently built restaurant, and both Trondheim freediving club and Trondheim Kayak Club have their club premises here. The sauna is public and open to everyone. No need to book a place. If the sauna is in use when you get there, simply wait until it is free again. And after a trip to the sauna, it's always nice to have a drink and a snack while looking out over the sea to the Fosen Peninsula.

Before there were any other ski resorts in Oslo, there was Nordmarka - quiet and vast. Peppered with a large selection of both serviced and unserviced cabins, and driving and hiking opportunities, Nordmarka is the ultimate outdoor paradise whatever the season.
If you take the bus to Hammeren and strap on your skis, you can look forward to two and a half magical miles up to popular Katnosa and their unsurpassed coffee and waffles. If you want to avoid the crowds, head toward an uninhabited slope with a sack lunch and maybe a thermos of hot toddy.

Saunahuset Hercules is a popular LGBT-friendly sauna in the capital, and for the city's gay population, this has been a safe and exciting meeting place ever since they opened their doors.
Saunahuset Hercules' clientele is mainly gay men, and the somewhat mythic place has managed to keep a regular customer base going since the mid-1980s at various addresses in central Oslo. As well as a sauna, the place also has a steam bath, whirlpool, sunbeds and bar, so a good selection of wellbeing options to choose from.

Read moreBleikøya is located right by Hovedøya in the very heart of the Oslo Fjord, and although it is known for its many cabins, it has a beautiful cultural landscape and vast green neighborhoods that make it worth a visit. There is a good boat connection with the mainland all year round.
The cabin owners' welfare association ensures that it is kept tidy and pleasant, and several hundred years of history with buildings and farms have created an attractive landscape and vegetation. This is also home to the only farm on the Oslo Islands, Bleikøyplassen. Northeast of the island there is a nature reserve, and you need to be mindful of the bird life here, especially during the breeding season.

Gråkallparken is a small park in Instruktørbakken behind Lille Gråkallen, but even though the park is not that big, it's popular with the town's residents. The slope is suitable for both beginners and more experienced snowboarders and downhill skiers, and many come here to have fun with rails and jumps. You can also hire boards here.
In addition to the proximity to the city and good winter sports conditions, the park provides fantastic views of the surrounding countryside, Tømmerdalen and the city. You can get here in 20 minutes by automobile or bus.
