Tongyeong

What you need to know before you go

Tongyeong is a port city along South Korea’s southern coast, famed for its historic role in the city’s maritime past, as well as for its landmark sites, museums, public art and thrill rides. At Tongyeong Sebyeonggwan Hall, you will have the opportunity to explore a former naval command post from the 17th century marked by grand red pillars. A visit to Gangguan Port allows for exploring Geobukseon, a full-size, authentic replica of a 16th-century warship. At the History Museum of Tongyeong City, you will find many exhibits, artefacts, documents, photographs and ephemera related to local and natural history, including fossils of real dinosaur eggs.

A unique cultural attraction can be found at Dongpirang Mural Village, a hillside town featuring stunning wall art displays. Nammangsan Sculpture Park is also a phenomenal public art institution with sculpture exhibitions. To get away from it all for a little while, head to Yi Sun Sin Park to enjoy panoramic ocean views, a rugged coastline and a cultural centre.
