Travelling across the volcanic landscape harmonizing with the waters of Jeju brings you face to face with beautiful nature that begs to be uploaded to your social media platforms. Jeju is also a perfect place to get that perfect shot that can finally replace your old profile picture, or be added to your family album.

We recommend Kimnyoung Maze Park, dominated by tall evergreen trees; Pyeongdae-ri Beach, where you can enjoy the view of the sea in a picturesque fishing village; St. Isidore Farm, which takes on the architectural style of the ancient Iranian city of Ctesiphon to create a unique vista; Forest Fantasia (Jeju Art Park), which houses works of leading sculptures in Korea with light art; and the Spirited Garden, a farmer's 50-year labour of love. Don't leave out Jeju Loveland or Bonte Museum, where one can find unique works of art in a rather memorable setting.

    Kimnyoung Maze Park

Catch two birds of fun and health in one park

Kimnyoung Maze Park is the first maze park of its kind in Korea, built out of evergreen Leyland cypress trees. Trees reaching nearly 3 metres in height surround the maze, neatly obscuring the obvious exits out of the complex. The maze can be completed in under 10 minutes, but one can get lost in it for an hour if one is not careful. The maze is completed when one reaches the skybridge and rings the bell on top of the observatory. Afterwards, take a picture against the winding paths of the complex to get those sweet likes.

Visiting Kimnyoung Maze Park is not just fun, but it is good for your health. Leyland cypress trees give off a fragrance that helps to clear one's head and relieve stress. The ground here takes on a reddish hue thanks to scoria, a volcanic rock found on Jeju that helps to purify the air and promote circulation. With these health benefits, maybe it is a good idea to get a tiny bit lost in the maze.

St. Isidore Farm, located in Geumak-ri, Hallim-eup, is known for its beautiful scenery and its unique Ctesiphon-style architecture. Named after the eponymous Ancient Iranian city near Baghdad, Ctesiphon-style architecture can only be found at St. Isidore Farm in Korea. Its unique scenery makes it a very popular destination for snapshot and wedding photography as well.

The farm was created by missionaries Patrick and Ann McGlinchey in 1954 as a way to introduce new farming techniques to the island, create new farmland on barren land, and thereby help to overcome historic poverty on the island. Today, it is more famous for its expansive grasslands, historic Catholic buildings, and Ctesiphon-style architecture, but that is not to say that the farm has forgotten its roots: Visitors can purchase milk and cheese produced at the farm in the souvenir shop. In fact, there's even a cafe called Uyubudan onsite, serving dairy products with a side helping of scenery.

    Ora-dong Buckwheat Field

About halfway up Hallasan Mountain lies this field of buckwheat flowers, whose white petals resemble a freshly snowed field. The size of this field, seemingly stretching to the horizon, must be seen to be believed. Fall winds shake the white flowers against the backdrop of clear and high skies. Further beyond lies a glimpse of the city centre on Jeju.

The middle of the field is home to Hareubang and Haenyeo sculptures, two most famous figures of Jeju. Photo spots can be found throughout the field in the form of chairs and other props. To take a memorable picture, just let the smile rise to your face and the scenery will do the rest. We recommend this place to those who plan to visit Jeju in September or October, when buckwheat flowers will be in full bloom.

    Gasiri Wind Power Plant

Come spring, the area around Gasiri Wind Power Plant blooms in gold and pink, thanks to the canola flowers and cherry trees. The power plant started as the first citizen participation-based wind power project in Korea, created as a way to generate profit for the area's residents without damaging nature around the common farm. The resulting power plant now draws even more visitors to the existing attractions of Gasi-ri, namely canola flower fields and horse riding.

Standing here, it's easy to understand the appeal of watching the windmills turning leisurely under the blue sky. The view of the sunset from here is truly breathtaking. Cattle grazing below the windmills add to the pastoral charm of the view. Make sure to take a picture against the canola flowers and cherry blossoms in spring, and the silver grasses in fall.

    Spirited Garden

Beautiful garden completed with 50 years of work

The story of the Spirited Garden begins with a farmer, who began working on barren land to create the most beautiful garden in the world. The garden enjoys worldwide fame, and its list of distinguished guests include former General Secretary Jiang Zemin of the Chinese Communist Party. It is made up of 7 gardens, all connected with a unique network of waterfalls, ponds, and stone bridges. Each plant and tree in the garden reflects the dedication of the gardener, nestled among rock formations and suiseki decorations. We especially recommend taking pictures or short videos against the greenery of the garden.

Another interesting thing about the Spirited Garden is its massive stone fences, which resemble castle walls. The fence was built to its present height to protect the trees from the strong winds of Jeju. Perceptive visitors will find short descriptions of thoughts and realizations that the builder had while creating the garden. After all, the garden is, above all, a monument to the tenacity and passion of one farmer.

Seonimgyo Bridge is the first bridge in Korea to invoke the legend of “The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl.” This picturesque bridge connects Cheonjeyeon Falls with Jeju Jungmun Resort. It is also known as Chilseonyeogyo Bridge, the “bridge where seven heavenly maidens have descended upon.” The bridge itself is an arch bridge with the figures of seven maidens sculpted on the sides. At night, the stone lamps are turned on to create an even more beautiful and mystical atmosphere.

When one stands upon the highest point of the arch, one is rewarded with a spectacular view of the surrounding mountains, rivers, and the waterfall. On clear days, one can even catch a glimpse of Hallasan Mountain. Taking a picture on top of the bridge gives you a dizzying view of the temperate forest in Cheonjeyeon and the waterfall, so don't miss out on the opportunity to take a memorable shot here.

Jeju Loveland is a unique sculpture park with a unique premise: it is a park full of works that celebrate sexuality. Its approach to sexuality is tingled with humour and playfulness, but the park makes no pretensions as to what it is trying to do. It is a space of art, rather than a space for pornography, and thus enjoys great popularity among couples.

And what's Jeju Loveland without its unique photo zones? Indeed, the whole park can be said to be one massive photo spot, thanks to the sculptures that dot the landscape. From the playful tension between scandalous and whimsical, and the beautiful lighting illuminating the works, everything in this park seems to be designed for photography. In this “playground for grown-ups,” enjoy the humorous sculptures and make unique memories with your partner.

    • Foto

Jeju Forest Fantasia (also known as Jeju Art Park) is an integrated art and cultural space that connects nature and art into one massive outdoor art installation. Nearly 180 pieces of work by leading Korean sculptors of our time are spread out over this massive park in beautiful nature. While the park is beautiful during the day, at night it becomes simply breathtaking. Take the opportunity to capture some pics for your Instagram feed against the sculptures illuminated by bright lights.

Forest Fantasia is themed after a journey undertaken by a small whale, which dreamed of seeing the green of the forest from the sea. That's why one comes across massive illumination projects that depict groups of reindeer, orcas, and baobab trees. You can make reservations to camp and have barbecue parties on the premise! How's that for a night out in the forest?

Pyeongdaeri Beach is a beach located northeast of Jeju City, where you can enjoy a quiet and secluded vacation to yourself. Along with Woljeongni Beach, the recent influx of restaurants and cafes into the area surrounding Pyeongdaeri Beach has drawn more visitors to this once quiet beach. The beach is lined with cutesy cafes and restaurants, while the scenery looking out toward the sea lends itself quite well to leisurely drives. Though the beach may be small, its famously clear waters make this beach a contender for one of the most beautiful beaches on Jeju.

It is said that many visitors fall in love with Pyeongdae-ri to the extent that they express their wish to live in the area for a month. The shallow beach has mild waves making it ideal for playing in the water. Take the opportunity to do some snorkelling in the clear blue water and watch the fish swim by. Or, take a day off in the peaceful fishing village and the beach, and get some pictures that are perfect for your social media platforms.

    Bonte Museum

Designed by world-renowned architect Tadao Ando, Jeju's Bonte Museum is worthy of being called a work of art in itself. Like other works by Ando, the building exhibits a remarkable composition made up of exposed concrete, light, and water. Like its name, “Bonte” (essential), Bonte Museum pursues the fundamental beauty of humanity in a harmonious setting with nature.

The exhibition catalogue exemplifies this spirit in the combination of Korean traditions and contemporary art. Gallery 1 contains examples of tray tables, colourful embroidery, and wrapping clothes, while Gallery 2 is oriented toward works of contemporary art. Gallery 3 is home to Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrored Room, a famous photo zone for visitors of the museum. Like its name, the room is surrounded by mirrors on all sides and has a pool of water as its floor. With every change in lighting from LED lights therein, the room takes on a different, yet no less mystical atmosphere. See this fantastic building and the harmony between traditions and modernity at Bonte Museum, and make sure to take some pictures while you're at it.
