Overall, it was good. I slept well due to quite window and good beds. The staffs were very friendly and were willing to help.
When you need taxi from far away location, you can ask help from hotel reception. Since you do not speak Portuguese, they will call taxi for you to pick you up.
The hotel location is on top of hill called "Praca da Batalha". Historic downtown is very close so it is very convienient.
After long walking tour of historic town, 450m walk (7 min) from Sao Bento train station along the steep up hill to Praca da Batalha was a bit challenging. But NH collection hotel is on better location than Ribeira, riverside area. Because there is lot more challenging hills and stairs to this area. Ribeira is very popular. So it will be a bit noisy in the night due to many restaurants.
Suggestion to Hotel:
Breakfast area has three areas, two on the lobby level and one down the stair. The area down the stair needs more light and contact to outside. The two high exterior windows on the plaza side can be modified down to table level. This will light up this area. Maybe opening the cold food area's wall where mirror is located, can be opened through the kitchen. Which will enable to serve the warm meal for breakfast. The other area at lobby level back to the wall side is dark. Maybe adding more lighting and hanging tilted mirror will make it attrative. Through tilted mirror, people sitting towards the wall can see their back scenery. Mirror also creats interesting picture.
