I will say it was a busy weekend when we stayed, so perhaps this room is often unused?
The room itself needed some attention.
Corner chunk of bedside table laminate was missing exposing underlying wood which could result in harm to clothing or skin;
The edges of the bath where it meets the walls, and the area around the shower where fixed to the wall, all need a good clean. No such issue with the sink areas or the rest of the room;
The hot water for the bath initially ran a bit grey, again I think lack of use, but cleared.
Section of wallpaper near the built in wardrobe coming away, perhaps from an old leak?? But no actual dampness or fustiness.
Good selection of tea bags/ coffe sachets in the room.
As the room was off around the back (loads of stairs) it was quieter maybe than rooms directly above the bar areas - same as most old pubs & inns.
On-site staff were excellent.
'Housekeeping' will knock at your door in the morning if you're staying more than 1 night, so if you're not going down for breakfast, or going out, be aware.
Booking system. Weird. Booked via hotels.com, their email said there's no reception desk at the hotel, but there is.
If you want to eat at this hotel, reserve a table as the food is excellent.
One of the few places in Marlborough with it's own car park - provide vehicle reg when arrive.
That's it I think!
