We wanted to stay here because of the history, to sleep in rooms where many famous people had spent their time - Hemmingway, British Royalty, famous actors and politicians, etc., etc. Well the atmosphere is there and alive and kicking - so we were not disappointed.
However, the famous Omlett - forget it. We had booked half-pension - and were expecting fish or a great meat dish in the evening - jeez - we had to eat the Omlett - I make a better, my children make better Omletts - complete let-down! For breakfast, where we expected an Omlett - just a normal breakfast - nothing special.
The Bar - walk into the "Hemmingway" Bar in Venice and it is completely crowded. The Bar in "La Mere Poulard" is on the 3rd floor - it was empty except for two German girls talking about their "Love" life. Nobody outside would not even know it is there, If this Bar would be on the ground floor and visible to pedestrians it would be packed solid every evening and "La Mere" would make more money in one evening here than from its room guests over a few days -
OK - final comment - we were glad we stayed here - we soaked up the history on the Island more than if we had stayed in a hotel on the mainland - just forget the food...............
