A visit to Mānoa offers active types plenty to explore. While most people are familiar with the destination because of the University of Hawaii main campus, the area has several natural gems that are sure to pique people’s interest including a rainforest. Approximately three miles inland from city centre Honolulu, the dynamic destination provides a more gentle escape compared to the hustle in other parts of the city.

The beautiful surroundings of Mānoa provide a breathtaking backdrop for whatever adventure you decide to pursue. Perhaps, you hike the Mānoa Falls Trail to get to the 150-feet-tall tall cascading waterfall. Or, if you’re a tree lover, spend time at Lyon Arboretum, known for its impressive collection of palm trees.
Despite Mānoa having a reputation of being a low-key destination, the reality is that it offers a rich experience to commune with nature, challenge yourself with a hike, learn something new, and more. Over at the Mānoa Heritage Centre, which bills itself as a 3.5-acre living classroom, the programming is captivating with public tours of nearby parks.

Good to know when visiting Mānoa
Mānoa is also a fantastic place to get closer to the community. Over at Mānoa Marketplace, there is a farmers market twice a week, where you can get fresh tropical fruits and more from different vendors. Or, enjoy a meal at one of the great restaurants.
Meanwhile, the Mānoa Heritage Centre offers enriching programming for the entire family, such as guided public tours touching on different topics from native Hawaiian cultural practices to the origin of plants and more. On its grounds are five gorgeous botanical gardens that you can explore, complete with colourful indigenous flora that also reflect Hawaii’s natural heritage.
