Look, the ritz it ain't. But if you're looking for an inexpensive, comfortable place to lie your head, a mirror to check your face and a simple enough shower, and you don't need to be coddled or pampered, look no further than Hotel Texas.
We're locals, and could easily stay there again. However, both of us agree that more than one night might be pushing it; 2 max (partly for the hotel, mostly because it's the stockyards).
It's a block away from main street and at least one bar directly north, south, east and west of the property. If nothing else, the lack of amenities will force you out and into everything the stockyards has to offer (still haven't figured out what that is; it's just cows and cowboys, people). In fact, I have more negative comments about cattleman's and H3. I've had better steaks AND I didn't have to endure all the hokey kitsch.
And a shout out to the guy at the front desk. Couldn't have been nicer or more hospitable.
