Spa is covered in Rust and Limescale. Signs are coming apart with rusted and sharp edges and tiles around pool were white and thick with build up. Bedrooms dated and my bathroom was not very clean. The WiFi was appalling. Service and staff were wonderful though! Some "interesting" breakfast choices. Also - Be aware that the "Free Breakfast" is buffet only - If you want cooked then there is an additional cost. Restaurant orders are only until 20:30 so, if like me, you arrive late because of traffic and work just make sure you eat beforehand as you'll go hungry and there is no bar. I'm sure the stay is good for it's purpose as a Spa break (albeit needs a clean and TLC) but I wouldn't recommend this for business users. Its a shame as I REALLY needed a peaceful evening to relax after a hectic few days. The grounds are also gorgeous and well maintained.
Booked this as needed a hotel in the area, didn't realise the restaurant etc is all 'calorie controlled' so not suitable if you've cycled 50 miles to get there!!! And also very expensive (£30 for basic dinner plus £7.50 for vegetables and potatoes to go with the small main course). Despite the supposed focus on health, the staff had no idea about gluten free food etc and couldn't provide any information in this regard on the menu. Unable to go elsewhere due to the hotel being quite remote.
It was what I expected from Champneys. From a hotel that has been there for a while and has managed to avoid the whole modern look now found in hotels today, some of the rooms felt like I was in a National Trust place and I loved that. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The spa and health facilities were great too. The food was outstanding and great for those who need a kick in the right direction. As a solo traveller I felt included and there were many other solo travellers.
This hotel has brand new and very nice spa facilities but the customer service especially at the reception is appalling and therefore not worth the very high prices. We booked through the booking agent and it wasn't mentioned that the use of spa facilities was limited. The way that the reception management has handed that was absolutely awful. She was patronising and borderline rude and not very helpful. You really feel like you are outside of central London where customer experience is everything. I think there is some much demand for quality spa facilities in the area that staff takes clients for granted and the customer experience becomes secondary..very high prices for what it is. Also not great breakfast selection, no rye bread but lots of sugary serial... And it's trying do hard to be healthy...service at breakfast very slow and poor. Not planning to go back.
Beautiful room. Spa facilities were not good, and the swimming pool was freezing.
