Great staff and breakfast despite old facility
The room condition is rather old when comparing to the standard, having said that, the staff is very helpful and the breakfast is great

Could do better
Was mostuncomfortable booked for three people got 2 beds expected 2 kids to share an 11 year old boy and a 14 year old girl thenwhen asked for a mattress was asked to pay ,had to pay to use pool , most gym equipment broken .wouldnever stay here again most disappointing

The service at the hotel is impeccable. Everyone was friendly and very polite. Just that I wish the WiFi was better and the bed mattress thicker and better? Otherwise the location is great and there is coach service that brings us to and fro the Kyoto train station

Quality of internet was very poor. Hotel needs to be renewed. If renovations could be expensive, providing good quality internet is not gat expensive.

We were a party of 4 in 2 rooms, and arrived to a delightful kimono-clad hostess in a beautiful lobby. Unfortunately, this initial impression did not carry over into the rest of our stay. Our rooms were average, and the beds were low to the floor, hard, and lumpy. A futon would have been preferable.
On our last day, although we had paid for a breakfast buffet, we were told that there would be a big crowd and that we could not be accommodated. We were offered two other restaurant options. One had an hour wait and the other had food we did not want at prices far above the value of our voucher. When we expressed our dissatisfaction, and they eventually called a manager who refunded our voucher money. We had a train to catch and had to settle for Seven-Eleven. We noted that the buffet area remained empty for at least 30 minutes after we were turned away.

Old Hotel in desperate need of a renovation.
While the Crown Plaza is nice it is in desperate need of a revamp. The hotel exterior and lobby look like something out of “Mad Men”. Our room smelled strongly of my old cigarette musk upon entering. The hotel is far from any major attractions other than the castles of Kyoto. Be prepared to walk a good amount to the train stations in the area as there is only one line nearby and it doesn’t go many places. The gym is nonexistent. For $16(usd) you get access to a pool, sauna, and onsen. However, if you’re looking to workout then the only option is 5 completely rusted machines that are at least 20 years old. Our room itself was spacious but the bathroom was disappointing. Again the toilet was a very old model, the shower tub combo was directly next to the toilet and we had a small sink that you can hear draining through a loud drain next to the toilet. The star of this hotel is the breakfast buffet at Cozy. The selection is huge and the quality is fantastic. While we didn’t hate our stay at the Crown Plaza we weren’t satisfied. We are certain that with some investment into updating this hotel it could be a wonderful place to stay in the future but for now I’d advise to look elsewhere when staying in Kyoto.

Hotel is at good location with Nijo Castle just cross the street. Staff are very nice and helpful. Room is clean. Breakfast is excellent with many choices.

The staff were rude spoke no English except to say 3:00 check in !
Room was extremely hot and when I called the front desk they sent up someone who spoke English and explained that the front desk controls the air conditioning and it’s preset, the room was 28 degrees when I entered and never got below 24 even with the two fans they sent up ....he did offer another room that he said was renovated but when we went in it was also 28 degrees and after leaving the air conditioning on for an hour and returning it was still 25.5 and almost midnight so we went back to our room.
The bathroom was very cheaply made made like in a cruise ship (cheap rooms) which vinyl walls that were just partitions.
I tried contacting Expedia with no luck only saying I’d be contacted in 72 hours even though I wanted to move to another hotel I was unable and had to stay here for the next four days which weren’t any better.
