We were pleased with the room and bathroom but the windows were draughty (UPVC plastic so not original wooden frames and therefore no excuse) . The TV did not work. General service was poor to middling. The restaurant menu was dull and the service slow. A welcoming hotel overlooking the sandy beach and white cliffs of Botany Bay. We were greeted by enthusiastic and helpful staff, who despite our late arrival after 9pm still produced a menu for an evening meal that the Chef cooked to perfection. Hotel decor… having entered via the conservatory restaurant at night. the lighting and carpet there are dark, […] they dull the 'first impression', this is a shame as in daylight the conservatory is vibrant and warming as is the rest of the hotel. From reception a maze of recently and well decorated corridors lead to the guest bedrooms, a push button increases the low level corridor lighting whilst you walk to your room. Our room an, 'Executive suite' was a large plush room (by most hotel standards) with a large double bed and an additional single bed. Leather Sofa, fresh and ornate ensuite, and 32inch TV. After a warm comfortable night, breakfast was a buffet stile choice of fruits, nuts, cereals, fruit juices, tea coffee toast and preserves. While we helped ourselves to the buffet. our choice of cooked breakfast was prepared. All in all pleasantly memorable stay, good value, and a venue we would happily revisit. Mehr

5 floor - no lift, basin in room and shared toilet / shower "pod", the smallest room I have ever stayed in for the money, guy on the desk was friendly and location good near Kings Cross, not my type of hotel for the money!

This is a great place to stay for a weekend away with beautiful seaviews from the Hotel and walks to nearby Broadstairs and Margate. Our room was exceptionally clean and warm (just what you need during one of the coldest weekends of the year!) and the breakfast each morning was delicious and included fresh pomegranate, raspberries and blueberries to […] add to our cereal, followed by a tasty cooked breakfast. We stayed at this hotel for the first time. It was an excellent hotel in all points. I could not fault it in any way. The room was large, warm and very cosy. The food was excellent as was the staff. I will certainly be returning later in the year.

We booked an 'Executive' room, which was very spacious with ample solid wood furniture and plentiful supply of coffee and tea. Bed was comfortable and hot water was constant. Breakfast was OK, with a good selection of juices, plenty of hot drinks, served to the table, and a range of cereals and fruits, although the meats in the 'full English' were not […] the best. This is quite an old building, so there are creaky floors and narrow winding corridors and stairs. The corridor lighting was not on or automatic, so we found ourselves looking around in the gloom for light switches. Our biggest worry was that the door locks are the old mortice types - that is to say you need to put a key on the keyhole: not just to open the door from the outside, but also to lock yourself in at night. This wasn't a major problem for us, but we did wonder whether unlocking the door might cause a little delay if it was necessary to escape in the event of a fire or other emergency, especially for anyone who is not too dexterous. Nevertheless, a very enjoyable stay and we would come again. Mehr

We really enjoyed our stay at the Fayreness, I requested a sea-view room and was lucky enough to get one (thank you!) We were there on the weekend when it was snowing but the room was lovely and warm, lots of thoughtful touches like biscuits and hot chocolate & mints, everything very clean and good quality. I would definitely stay there again.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The food is very good value for money and there is a variety on offer, in addition they were able to cater for my dietry requirements. Will definitely stay there again.

My first breakfast (full english) was a disappointment, I think it must have been prepared in advance and kept warm. The bacon was dry and stuck to the plate, the sausage was hard, tasteless and inedible, the poached egg was ok (probably added later). The evening meal was very nice. I'm not a vegetarian, but the next morning, after the previous breakfast […] experience, I chose the "full vegetarian breakfast". This was a more acceptable choice. The next morning (my departure day), I chose the "vegetarian" again but had to return it to have the scrambled egg replaced as it was dry and leathery. Verdict: the cooked breakfasts were decidedly under par, the lunch and evening meals, fine. In all other respects (apart from the attrocious weather!), an enjoyable stay! Mehr

The Fayreness is located in a great location for enjoying the beach. The rooms were quite comfortable and the pub/restaurant was enjoyable for a meal/respite after a busy day. We truly enjoyed the breakfast and the service of the wait staff.

Pleasant location, very close to the sea. Although a few miles to town and bars restaurants etc. Ate at the Fayreness one evening and the food was good and staff attentive and friendly. Decor a bit dated.

Restaurant dissapointing. Three items ordered off menu were not available.The food they did serve was tough. Went elsewhere the 2nd evening but good restaurants are hard to find in this area.

Great ittle hotel. We had a wonderful room with a terriffic sea view. Breakfast was excellent although restuarant in the evening was a bit limited in choice so opted to eat in the bar.

hotel is really a pub but in a lovely location but needs updating and has very little sound proofing between bedrooms. breakfast was fine but we could not face eating dinner since menu was boring and dining area was poor. Much better to do short walk along path to next pub and eat nice meal there.

We chose the Fayreness for its location as we wanted to explore the area. The hotel would be OK for one night but our stay was for six nights so we would have preferred a residents lounge or an area to relax in which did not serve food. Dogs were welcome inside the bar area where people are eating food and as the Fayreness is very popular with local […] dog walkers, there were often quite a number of dogs lying or sitting around. The staff were most helpful and very friendly, however, quite often during late afternoon and evenings there was no one in attendance at reception and guests have to go the bar and to wait until a member of the bar staff is free to get the room key. The food menu did not change daily and vegetarian choices were very limited, although there was a daily Specials Board with usually one vegetarian option. Mehr

Our 'Executive Twin' ground-floor room in a modern annex was spacious & mostly convenient. The bathroom was roomy & smart. Although it was equipped for disabled guests, it lacked a toilet seat & shelves, but had a lovely big shower/bath with a built-in seat. Beds both just firm enough, & plenty of drawer & cupboard space, full-length mirror & better […] lighting than in some more fashionable hotels. There was a fridge as well as tea, coffee & kettle, & a safe. No sea-view though. Other guests told us some older upstairs rooms were much smaller & less comfortable. We knew the dining room & conservatory well, having often visited here with relatives. Their huge windows overlook the sea, beaches & cliffs, but are also cosy in squally weather. Food was varied, generous & good value.Tables rather small for comfort. The bar is a disappointment, being rather fusty-looking, but with a good range of real ales & wines. The large TV was not too obtrusive, & volume kept down. All the staff we encountered were helpful & pleasant: perhaps it helped that it was only the beginning of the season! On arrival the receptionist ignored us completely - no eye contact - for 10 minutes whilst she dealt with another customer. Otherwise, the rest of the staff were friendly and courteous, food was very nice and excellent value for money.

We found the hotel to be very dated. The room was ok but we didn't feel like spending much time in there. The double bed seemed small and cramped. We didn't like the decor in our room. The shower was nice. The location was nice and great for walks. The food served at the hotel was disappointing. The continental breakfast consisted of a slice of ham, […] a couple of slices of cheddar and two croissants. The full English only had nice bacon and eggs, Didn't like the tomatoes, mushrooms, sausages or beans. The mixed toast was nice. The clientele was fine and the atmosphere was peaceful. First impression when walking in was disappointing. Waited for some time at reception whilst the chef was looking at the computer before a receptionist finally acknowledged me. Asked to settle the room bill before I reminded her that payment had already been made through Expedia. Shown to my room. Clean and acceptable. Better than the shoddy public […] areas so I was quite relieved! No conversation offered by the reception staff and none whatsoever whilst eating in the bar. The only friendly face was the blonde haired, mature waitress who was very pleasant whilst ordering breakfast. Had to wait for a long time before breakfast order was taken. Toast burnt one one side, badly, and hidden in basket. Sat by the window and the radiator was thick with debris and fluff., as was the windowsill. Not pleasant. Nice location but very poor show. Dated, tired and reminded me of an old peoples home. And the big brown smelly labrador that was in permanent residence on both days needs to be removed from the bar/restaurant area! Mehr

After trying out several hotels in the region we were lucky enough to find the Fayreness. It is located off the beaten track right next to the sea with the beach only 2 minutes away. The staff are very friendly, food was great and it is apparent that the owners atke great pride in the upkeep. I will definitely stay there again!.
