Regency Inn - San Francisco

die Gegend ist sehr düster, es hat viele komische Gestalten.

Got what I paid for, close to union sq but have to walk through a little bit of the rough section. Sheets had something on them and there is cheap over night parking but the location is hard to find.

I was very happy with my stay at The Regency! It is an older building but really cute and has a lot of character!! I was very happy with the staff, amenities, parking and even the complimentary breakfast!! I got to make my own waffle :) The bathroom was remodled and very nice, we even had complimenary toothpaste! The only complaint I have is that there […] was a crazy lady screaming at 7:30 in the morning for about 15 minutes. This happens all over San Francisco, so it really didn't bother me that much. This downtown hotel is four blocks from Market and Powell Streets and the BART system and trolley car. It is not glitzy - mid priced - value for money, newly refurbished hotel - with excellent staff. There is a bus at the door but you don't need it as everything is within comfortable walking distance. I have stayed in various hotels downtown, ranging from 5 star to 3 star and I think Regency offers all I need for a relaxed stay in this fascinating city. Mehr

The Regency rooms were clean and although seem tiny, they were pretty much in line with the size of other hotel rooms in SF. There were many ammenities missing in the Regency. There was no sign on the door stating the check in/check out hours, fire-escape route, etc... and I received no paperwork from them stating this information. There was no shelf […] in the bathroom, which was needed since the sink offered no space. Only 2 hangers in the closet and no luggage rack. The room was freezing in the early evening and the radiator (yes, radiator) wasn't working. I had to call the desk and they said they would have to turn it on downstairs and it didn't come on for at least an hour. No coffee pot, no coffee mugs, but there was a microwave and refrigerator. They did offer coffee and hot water/tea bags downstairs all day, but the styrofoam cups held only about 6 ounces at best. Only 1 key was available with the room and since there were two of us that had different plans, someone at the desk had to let me in the room. The area is the "tenderloin" and did have some shady characters around, but I never felt unsafe. The bus stop in front of the hotel became a trash can and no one cleaned it for over 24 hours. The parking garage is normally $30/day, but if you pay at the hotel you get it for $15/day. The spaces were tiny and I actually had to climb through the back of my car in order to get to the front since both doors were blocked. I would probably visit this hotel again with an adult, but I don't think this is where I would stay with my kids because of the area (not because of the hotel). The Vietnamese Sandwich shop around the corner is the best deal in SF. It was $3.50 for a good sized sandwich that was very delicious. Mehr

The neighborhood can be intimidating. The rooms are simple and clean. This is an older building and the owner is making an effort to clean up and fix some of the worn out aspects. It is not perfect.

My boyfriend and I went to SF as a casual trip. If you're just looking for a place to sleep then this place is just that. Was relatively close to everything. We walked everywhere. I wouldn't walk outside alone if you're a girl, homeless people everywhere but they are harmless, just a bit scary at times. Was down the street from the bars on Polk St so […] that part was convenient and it was a $6 taxi ride from Union Square. The hotel was fine, very small but then again everything is in SF. The main con to the stay was that we thought parking was going to be free. It wasn't. We paid $30 for 2 nights which is much better than most places though (they give you a discount for staying at the hotel). Woken up in the middle of the night to sirens because it's 1 block from the Tenderloin Police Station. Overall, if you're just looking for a clean bed and shower, this place is perfectly fine! We had a nice stay at the hotel, no incidents. The complimentary breakfest was very nice, with fruits and waffles. The staff was helpful and friendly. There was free parking, but the hotel had such a very good location that we did not have to use our car during the stay. The hotel was also quiet, despite the location (downtown). There only couple of […] things we should point out are: the room was very small and the bathroom was kind of old. Also, on the first day we were kind of scared with the amount of homeless people walking around. A bunch of them stayed very near the hotel, just walking around. Despite the number of homeless, we had no problems, even at night. Recommend the hotel if you like good price, free parking, good breakfest and nice location, but do not care about a nice and charming neighborhood . Mehr

The hotel was old but decent, staff was decent also. The surrounding neighborhood was full of Prostitues, drug dealers and drug users. I dont reccomend staying here as the neighborhod looks very sketchy and unsafe. There were people trying to sell us drugs and looked as if they were going to mug us.

San Francisco is a fascinating city. There are pockets of neighborhoods that are better than others, so I felt obligated to submit a positive review to counter the negative reviews about the Regency Hotel. This hotel is in "Little Saigon" (according to the street markers) and there are certainly a number of homeless individuals in the neighborhood. […] As a single female, traveling with another adult female and my three year old daughter, we were safe and comfortable for the duration of our stay. I needed a hotel close to the Convention Center and Regency Hotel fit my budget. We stayed in three different hotels during our seven day visit because I had been gifted a stay in another hotel that cost more than twice the cost of the Regency prior to booking our stay at the Regency. When we left Regency, we all missed the friendly staff, the GREAT breakfasts and the non-pretentious "community" feel of the guests. This hotel experience was by far one of the best experiences I have ever had. I am a doctoral student and minister who travels frequently to present research and/or present lectures or sermons. The Regency Hotel is family owned and operated and it shows. The staff is amazing, the room was comfortable (beds felt good and were CLEAN), and quite affordable considering the short five block walk to the convention center. I will DEFINITELY stay here again on future trips. Mehr

This hotel is really ugly and the neighbor hood is really ghetto

I will not even recommend my worst enemy to stay in the Regency Hotel. The area was awful, drug dealing fights outside basically outright dangerous. The hotel itself was disgustingly dirty, the room had horrible smell and most of all the block where the hotel is situated is extremely nasty if you don't know the are. I will never trust this website again […] to choose a hotel for me. Mehr

front desk staff not very kind, the rooms are really small, and the area is really sketchy. It is a good price, and in a good location that is close to every thing in San Fran.

Location is great in proximity to everything in the city and the area itself is not terrible, but not a location where I would advise for women to stay. The hotel (motel - inn) is old, and it seems that some people actually live there. Not sure what to make of that situation. There is a lot of homeless in the area, mostly harmless, but some of them […] can be intimidating. I would not advise the area is safe for women travelers that do not have a male companion. Everything is within walking distance or a quick bus ride or via the BART. Overall, the place will do if you need something fast, cheap, want to be in the city, and can tolerate the "locals". Not a business travelers hotel. Repeat, not a business travelers hotel. Mehr

My wife and I loved this hotel. The location was close to China Town, the French Consulate, and everything else. We were able to walk everywhere. Breakfast was great. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Parking was only one block away in a secure hour parking garage. The only negative thing we can offer is that the sink drained slowly. this hotel is in a terrible part of SF- we didn't feel safe leaving the hotel. Charged for parking, no coffee maker or iron as promised. Extremely noisy location. Remote for tv missing. Very disappointed.

The hotel was nice. The staff were nice. The neighborhood was scarey but its the city. The bed was comfy. I would stay there again.

Well even though this hotel is in a bad area, it's clean and nice to stay at. I liked it very much. The Hilton at Union square is also in a sort of bad area, but shoot it's way more expensive and the Hilton had bed bugs....this hotel did not and was clean, which is much more important to me than if there are a couple homeless around. Research the location of the area you would like to stay before booking hotel.

The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. I didn't try the breakfast so I can't speak to it one way or the other. I can say that it was the noisiest room I've ever stayed in. The sound of traffic from the street fills the room all night long making it incredibly difficult to sleep. As an added bonus the surrounding neighborhood is, well, just […] bad. Lots of homeless and mentally ill walking about with just a few crackheads thrown in for good measure. Walking to an from the hotel ranged from unpleasant to unnerving. While I like the staff and the building will have charm once the renovations are complete, I would not stay here again. Mehr

Bob and the staff are really great! All the time they help us with any issue that we had. The only issue is that the internet conections is not very stable, they have to improve this.

-This hotel is located in a very dodgy area, The Tenderloin. There are loads of Hobo's and some of the streets close by don't feel safe even in the middle of the day. +The room was clean but the facility oveall is quite run down. This is the hotel for you. It's inexpensive and located a bus ride away from union square or a walk if you don't mind a 10 minute walk (that's my preference). I wasn't sure to expect from this hotel but found it clean and better than some that I've stayed at right off union square. The one complaint I would have is that it didn't have a remote to my […] TV. I didn't spend a lot of time there but it had colorful carpeting and a decent enough bed. The breakfast was a normal continental breakfast and they had fresh fruit which is sufficient for me. Overall not a bad stay, though not in the best neighborhood. If good people don't go to bad neighborhoods, they'll never change so don't let the neighborhood stop you. Mehr

This is not a hotel. It is a regency Inn. It is an Inn. If i knew it is an Inn i would have never booked it.

El hotel no es de la cadena Regency Internacional que fue lo que me confundió a mí al leer el nombre. Esta ubicado en el barrio Tenderloin que es un barrio que en el city Tour te dicen expresamente que no recomiendan visitar de noche a los turistas. Hay mucha gente en la calle vagabundos que deambulan, y a veces piden algo de dinero. No está bueno para […] ir de turismo pues no es lo que uno espera ver. Por eso no lo recomendaría, pero es una opción económica para lo que salen los hoteles en San Francisco y el Hotel en sí no es malo. Mehr
