Clean, welcoming, great staff, knew English and the hotel was even nicer than I expected.

The Kyoto Royal Park Hotel is beautifully designed and well-run - a real bargain. It's near a subway stop and just a few stops away from the main Kyoto station. The guest laundry was a helpful amenity, as was a convenience store just around the corner.

My friend and I booked a 3-night stay in their twin bed room. The room was spacious (by normal standards), very comfortable and well decorated. I loved their rainforest shower head and bath tub! :) What I thought was a very useful facility to have is the coin laundry machines on the 2nd floor. It was easy to use despite my non-existent grasp of Japanese. […] I also love the location of the hotel. The bakery next door is such a bonus and down the road there is a Starbucks where you can sit and enjoy your morning cuppa while staring out at the Kamogawa river. When I was there, the cherry blossoms was in full bloom and the stroll along the Kamogawa river was amazing! It's a very short stroll to the Sanjo subway so the location is most convenient to get around. The staff at the hotel were helpful even though the night's staff command of English is not very strong. They tried very hard to understand us and were very patient despite us trying to explain numerous times. Definitely enjoyed my stay and will return to stay in this hotel if I visit Kyoto again! Mehr

we were upgraded to a premium room and loved it - large, comfy, great bathroom. the bar staff were very helpful, taking me off-menu to learn about japanese whisky, which was much-appreciated. the location is right in the thick of it which was a blessing soem days, less so on others! the shop in the lobby has some really interesting local crafts and […] there is a great gyoza restaurant in the building just behind the hotel (details in lonely planet) Mehr

Great value for money in this fantastic location.

the hotel is new and right in the middle of the shopping district. a lot of restaurants just outside the hotel, and a grocery right beside it. gion area is about a 5 minute walk. very near bus stops and train station. had a really great stay! very nice staff too!

A friend and I spent 3 nights at the Royal Park Hotel in Kyoto. Loved the decor, friendly and helpful staff, wonderful location near the train station and a beautiful neighborhood. It's only two blocks from the river where you can stroll the banks and where we enjoyed the cherry blossoms. Plenty of good restaurants nearby, and you can't beat the breakfast […] at the boulangerie next door. The only downside for me was that the mattress was a bit too firm for my comfort, but my friend found hers to be comfortable. Mehr

Very convenient hotel for the walking city of Kyoto. You can easily walk to the Gion district. You can visit sites on your way to the Philosophers Walk. The Nishi Market is within walking distance. You can also walk to nearby train stations within 10 minutes that will take you near any sites in Kyoto with the Golden Pavilion being the longest walk from […] any train station. Excellent value, easy access to all desired locations

location is good, near the nishiki market and walking distance to pontocho-dori. You won't feel bore at nite, alot of eatery and drink area. Just couple minutes walk to bus stop and 8 minutes to the nearest subway.

I loved this hotel to bits and pieces. At Kawaramachi-Sanjo, it's located pretty much in the middle of the best shopping district in Kyoto, with easy access by bus (even carrying heavy luggage, it's only a minute or two's walk from the bus stop, and buses to this area are really frequent). You can also reach Gion by foot from the hotel (15-20 mins), […] but for most other sightseeing, it's probably best to take a bus back to Kyoto Station and go from there. The hotel is stylishly decorated and kept excellently clean, and the staff are very helpful, quick and polite in handling all requests. The rooms are also surprisingly big, at least compared to my experiences in other Japanse hotels in this price range. Personally, I was lucky enough to be upgraded from a single to a twin, so my room felt extra spacious. Both their in-hotel coin laundry/laundromat and their laundry service were easy to use and decently priced, as these things go. Oh, as a note; when coming to the hotel for the first time, please note that it's not the same hotel as the similarly named Kyoto Royal Spa Hotel you can see right across the street from where the bus from Kyoto Station stops. Instead, when you get off the bus, go in the direction the bus came from 'till there's a crossing on your left side, cross the street, walk straight ahead, and the fourth entrance or so should be the hotel. By taxi, it costs roughly 1000 yen to get to/from the hotel to Kyoto Station. By bus, it's 220 yen one way, or you can buy a day pass for 500 yen that lets you use the bus system as much as you want in the city center area, and most tourist attractions are inside this area. (Prices per March 2012) There are dozens of restaurants in the area; you'll bump into them no matter what direction you go in, like Bikkuri Donkey across the street, which is cheap and easy and has English menus if you need them. The hotel was comfortable, clean and high quality. The hotel staff was so helpful and gracious. The location is very convenient for for exploring Kyoto by train and bus. The bakery underneath and down the street is perfect for snacks and breakfast.

Beautiful hotel. 3 of us stayed in a Twin Deluxe. The room was a bit tight with the extra bed and on the second night we had to ask them to remove the extra chair and side table. There is also very little storage space but for the quality of the hotel and the location, it was really an exceptional value. I would definitely stay here again.

Great location, right in the middle of the night life of Kyoto. Best way to get there is subway to Karasuma-oike station (K8) and change to Kyoto Shiyakusho-mae(T12). 250yen. Short walk from there. Rooms are very nice and large but don't expect a view.

Excellent new hotel in the heart of the city center.

I am very pleased with my stay in Royal Park Hotel The Kyoto. The staffs are friendly and well trained in all aspects. The hotel is very new and the location is excellent. Even though it was my first time to Kyoto, I have no problem in finding the hotel as it is only 5 mins walk from Sanjo station. Close proximity to Gion Shijo shopping area and 15-20 […] mins walk to Nishiki Mkt. I will definitely stay in Royal Park Hotel for my next visit to Kyoto. Mehr

But Royal Park Hotel THE....subtle difference...but easily confused as the other hotel is nearby. Hotel couldn't be faulted and room was well appointed if a tad small.

Superb location with many nearby sights. Hotel room is not big but the services and quality of this hotel makes it up many times.

My first time to Kyoto, booked this hotel becoz the photos look great, the comments sound good and the rate unbeatable. Turned out most things met my expectation, may be except the internet connection a bit problematic, which took some time for my PC to run smoothly. If you arrive at the Kyoto station, my suggestion is to take the bus ( No. 4, 17 or […] 205) or a taxi (should be around 1,200 Yens) and not the metro, which you will have to go up and down some stairs to change lines. Once you get there, you will find the location just perfect. Service is nice, room is okay spacious with high ceiling.....my impression on the hotel is as nice as the city. Mehr

Only 20 min bus ride from the train station, close to many restaurants and shops. Buffet breakfast was adequate and nearby restaurants offered plenty of food choices. The hotel staff was very helpful to meet our needs as we were a group of 10 people including 2 children.

That is really an amazing hotel. At first, it is very close to the main scene, such as Hanami-Couji, in the Kyoto. Second, its equipments are very new and high class. Third, the price is really low. I really like this hotel, and would like to stay there again.

I must say I was perfectly happy with the Royal Park Hotel in Kyoto. It is perfectly located on Sanjo-dori which is adjacent to nearly everything one needs in Kyoto as a visitor, a minute to the bus stops, three to the subway and train stations. It is right across the various covered shopping arcades of central Kyoto, a ten minute walk to the Nishiki […] food market for the best japanese teas and local foods as well as the dept. stores. Although the high quality hotel breakfast is a bit pricey at 2100yen, a bakery/coffee shop is right beside its entrance as well as literally a hundred other restaurants. It is a five minutes walk to the Pontocho, a riverfront walkway with all the quaint but authentic japanese restaurants. The Geisha district at Shijo-dori is also just ten minutes walk away. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, extremely new, absolutely spotless with all the amenities one needs, including Tempur-pedic pillows! Room sizes are accepatable according to japanese standards and rooms are VERY quiet considering its central location. Service is commendable and almost all the staff speak sufficient English, are always courteous and ready to help. Mehr

We were very satisfied with the hotel! The decor is chic and efficient. The room designs are well thought out. The front staff were extremely helpful in assisting us with all of our queries. We felt happy and at home there. However, one should note that parking facilities are limited at the hotel if guests arrive with there own vehicles. The height […] limit of cars for the hotel's contracted parking garage is only 1.92m . Any SUV or even a tiny car like our Daihatsu would not fit in the garage. The end result is parking at another garage which may bring more expense and hassle. Mehr

i have stayed at various hotels in kyoto and this is by far the best value. location is great. walking distance to most shopping, cafes and restaurants. very new. Our family stayed at the Royal Park for 3 nights. While the hotel is not across the street from a train station it is very close to 2 stations. We walked into a lovely, modern lobby were and were greeted by extremely helpful staff. Check in easy, Our 2 rooms were spacious and very comfortable. The quality of the furnishings were high. We really apprecialted […] very comfortable cotton pajamas and the quality bathroom ammenities. The showers were somewhere between comfortable and indulgent. And the hotel has a laundry to use. We often just wanted a light breakfast and the bakery next to the hotel is exceptional. We were in an area with easy access to shopping and a myriad of restaurants. This was definitely our favourite hotel during our 17 days in Japan. Mehr

The location of the hotel could not be in a better area Kyoto. Close to the Gion entertainment district with its vibrant nightlife, a huge selection of restaurants and lots of shopping opportunities. There is a bus stop and a subway station within 100m of the hotel so transport is no problem at all. The staff member on duty spoke flawless English so […] check in was a breeze. We were even upgraded to the bigger double rooms at no extra charge. The hotel decor is very stylish and it is a far cry above the usual Japanese business hotel fare. Extras in the room were excellent with no shortcuts taken and lots of thoughtful little touches. Needless to say the room was spotless. The bed is also really comfortable with big soft pillows. The staff is very helpful and friendly. Their concierge will gladly help you plan your daily sightseeing trip and speaks English too. All in all for the price this was easily the best hotel we stayed in during our Japan tour and I can fully recommend it. I will definitely be staying there again for my next trip to Kyoto. Mehr

Brent was very helpful, the hotel was fantastic. Gave great restaurant suggestions. Laundry was done very nicely. The hotel is very new and affordable, great wifi access, just all around a fantastic experience. Pros: 1. Perfect Location: Just few minutes walk from rail, close to 0101, BAL, OPA and can arrive Gion with 15 mins walk 2. Numerous F&B nearby 3. Bathroom: although it is not sizeable, it provides constain & instant hot water supply. The Mikimoto Cosmetic toiletories is a plus 4. Very lovely to provide a steamer & air filter in the room. Cons: 1. […] The cleaning is not satisifed as i saw the rubbish remains at the same location for 4 nights. it's my first time to kyoto traveling,very lucky could find a hotel like this new,and gool location,if I have opportunity to the Kyoto traveling,I will still choose this one

Located near Gion, Shijio-dori, this is as convenient as it gets. Room is squeaky clean and spacious. Pontocho, the area's food street is a stone's throw away. Again, fantastic location.

This brand new hotel is situated in a very good location of Kyoto. Though it is about 10 minutes taxi ride away from Kyoto Station, it's location is within walking distance to the shopping street of Kawaramachi-Dori and the entertainment stretch along Kiyamachi-Dori. Lots of eateries offering a wide range of cuisine at different price levels can be […] found in the neighbourhood of the hotel. I booked a standard double room intended for single occupancy, and found the room just nice for one person, but will be too cramp if it has been another person in the room. The room is very clean (typical Japanese standard), well furnished and bed is very comfortable and very well insulated from traffic noise. The only set-back for me about the hotel room is the size of the wardrobe or rather the lack of a proper wardrobe. The space for clothes is more like a coat rack near to the entrance of the room. Hence, I left my clothes in my luggage for the 3 nights duration of my stay in Kyoto and hung only my jackets and a couple of shirts that were already packed with hangers. I would stay in this hotel again. Mehr

The hotel looks very new & comfortable, like the simple design of the room, loaction near to Nishiki market(10mins walk) and Gion (15mins walk), just 2 stations from Nijo Castle, will stay again for my next trip to Kyoto

Hotel has sizeable rooms (compared to most hotels in Japan) and is situated in center of Kyoto downtown. It's close to all subway, major bus stops as well as restaurants, arcades, and shopping departments all within 10 min walking distance. Service and cleanliness of the room has been top notch as well.
