Palace Express - Lead

This is a ok place to stay for the price. the rooms need alittle sprucing up. the breakfeast was a joke. they set out 5 loaves of bread!

I would stay again. The rooms were clean and the people were friendly and helpful.

Since we were not able to book a room in Deadwood during Presidents weekend (not sure why, the streets where dead) we opted to stay in Lead. Although older the rooms were very clean. Only complaint was lack of parking due to snow mobile trailers everywhere. I would stay here again.

After ck in we were moved due to a booking snafoo. After they asked us a 2nd time to move an up grade was given to us. This was appreciated.

Got there no one at front desk, waited, waited, then lady over by microwave says be right with you, not "Hi" just be right with you. She was heating up her food, comes back behind counter, says" do you have reservation?, again not Hi or any form of greeting. Then just checked me in and gave me keys. VERY RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL!!!!!

Decent stay for the money. Staff was helpful with surrounding area, i.e. directions, restaurants, etc.

The location is very good. The hotel is pretty basic, yet adequate. The staff was friendly. The rooms were clean. It is obviously not the Ritz, but the room was spacious enough and relatively comfortable. The breakfast mainly consists of toast, coffee and juice, but the bread was fresh and the butter was tasty. Enough to have a bite before going sightseeing. […] If one is a tourist and intends to spend most of the time away from the hotel room, this place is adequate and inexpensive. Mehr

Our stay aat the Palace Express was overall pleasent. Nothing too fancy, but then neither was the price. The staff was friendly and personable. It is a fact that all they have for breakfast is toast and juice, but we lived. I would go back.

The staff was very helpful, and the stay was comfortable for the price and "stars" range.

Old hotel, room was clean but very musty smelling. Their idea of a light continental breakfast was their "Toast Bar" - three loaves of toast still in the plastic wrap sitting by a toaster with some jam and peanut butter packages, with coffee and juice. I mean, come on - a "Toast Bar"? Who are they trying to kid. Staff was ok.

This hotel was in a nice location, only a few miles from Deadwood, but it was dirty and the staff were not friendly. I requested an extra pillow and I was scoffed at like it was the largest chore in the world. The Continental Breakfast was terrible, only consisting of toast and water that was reminiscent of coffee. Don't usually write reviews - HOWEVER, left a camisole top hanging over the towel rack, went back to get it and housekeeping did not turn it in. Told Lost and Found as well as the Front Desk that, as a result, we would NEVER stay there again!! Also, comments are right re. wi-fi - can't get it in your room - you can wander in the halls, or, like they […] said, try the laundry room. Also, long black hair was left on the bathroom floor - obviously not well cleaned. Mehr

The Palace Express hotel is just that--express service means throw the covers back up without putting clean sheets on the bed--yes the sheets were dirty with "BM" on them. We asked for non-smoking room and they put us in a smoking room. They did put us in a clean room after we complained--would not give us a discount because of the non-cleanliness,but […] would take off for the next night which we did not stay but they charged our account for a 2nd night!! Continental Breakfast=toast and coffee.....I do not recommend this hotel to anyone! Mehr

I was very pleased with the accommodation, the room was a bit small. The price was very affordable!! Yes, I would stay at the Palace Express again!

Mold in the tub! It really grossed me out! Whole place had a funky smell. One of the clerks was really unpleasant, but everyone else was fine.

I stayed 2 nights @ the Palace & found it to be easy to find, right as you enter the town of Lead, SD. The staff was friendly & accommodating. Rooms were nice & very clean, and the cost was quite reasonable. Coffee, juice, & toast was nice for a quick "on the go" breakfast, but a little fruit & bagels w/ cream cheese would have added a little something […] extra. Just a thought... an Iowa guest Mehr

I do not know how you can call toast and coffee a continental breakfast> The room had not been vacumed, it was in need of a total clean up, including paint. The odor was not pleasant either.

Pillows were hard. No hair dryer. Clean and people were friendly. Reasonably priced.

Compared to the hotels in Deadwood, this hotel has VERY reasonable rates and is only minutes from deadwood. It is clean and the rooms are good sized. Bathrooms are very small, but work well. Front desk service left a bit to be desired, but was not too bad either. For the money, it was WELL worth the stay.

Don't expect cleanliness, such as cleaning up cheat-ohs from previous occupant. Don't expect a comfortable bed (ours felt like a foam mattress laying on a bath tub). Don't expect more than toast and coffee on their "continental breakfast". I would say you get what you pay for, but to me a minimum for a room should be clean and secure with a comfortable […] bed. Our credit card was charged although we had prepaid for our room prior to arrival. The "Continental Breakfast" consisted of toast, just toast. It had white toast and wheat toast but just toast! The rooms had no mircrowave, refrigerator, blowdryer, or coffee pot. Hot tub was out of order. Stairwell light fixture had 3 years of dead bugs in it. This was […] a bad choic and would not stay here again. Staff was unknowledgeable to what services were available in the area. Mehr
