Don Boutique Hotel - Montevideo

The streets are deserted after 7pm which is a bit alarming, also most of the restaurants and shops are closed at night adding to the desolate feeling but we had no problems during our 3 night stay.

Staff did a first rate job in a classy new facility. The area around the hotel is in a revitalization zone and sketchy after dark. Daytime all is fine. La Pelenque which is associated with the hotel has first class food.

Beautifully appointed with a very friendly, helpful staff. After many hours of travel we arrived and were immediately served a "welcome drink" in the bar/lobby while we went through the check-in procedure. Staying at the port of Montevideo in the Ciudad Viejo is for those seeking atmosphere and adventure. On Sundays the neighborhood is virtually deserted, which creates an exotic, other-worldly feel, immersing visitors into a real oldtime Uruguayan feel. The hotel itself is a modern oasis among the ancient neighborhood sights and sounds. Rooms are compact […] but comfy, with a beautiful, relaxing pool area. Breakfast served is delicious and very generous. Staff speaks English is very helpful. Free wi-fi is strong, possbily from signal on the building itself. A rooftop "bar" wasn't open, but the deck allows for great views of the port and entire neighborhood. Hotel is very close to the Buquebus terminal for those arriving or going to Buenos Aires by ferry. Walk into city proper is easy and takes your thru a historical journey. Not for those seeking Sheraton-style comfort, but for those looking for exoticism or adventure I couldn't recommend this hotel enough. Mehr

Everything about this hotel was fantastic - position in the old town was close to markets, restaurants, bars etc. The local bus was handy and the walk into the city centre was a pleasant 20 min stroll. We found the staff most helpful with good english language skills.Breakfast was beautifully presented and generous. A real little gem!

If my friends visited the city, I would tell them to stay at this hotel. Only downside, the area which goes very quiet at night and locals suggest it can get dangerous although I felt comfortable being on my own. An amazing room, service, really friendly people and not because they have to, amazing breakfast made when you sit at the table just for […] you and an atmosphere that makes you want to spend time in the hotel, even when you are someone like me that usually uses them for sleep. The pool is a hidden gem and dowsnt close like in all other hotels I've visited. Look for Daniel, Karla and Eugenia. The hotel was clean enough but , the room was very small . A number of things didn't work , a light in the bathroom, bidet , sink didn't drain . All of this was reported but not much was done. You can hear a person sneeze two rooms down . The hotel si really nice, room had convered all details and the staff si very nice and helpfull at all times. Location of the hotel si the only thing fact Tag stands between an excelent and perfect rate, even though is an área with lots of potential that is Boeing recovered by local Government and in a few years might become a nice tourism área.

In the middle of the old town in Montevideo, the Don Boutique is a modern, ultra-chic hotel with very helpful staff, a rooftop pool and a great breakfast. I cannot think of anything to fault.

Great hotel. The hotel is a renovation of a 1930's Art Deco building. Actually, the only old portion is the facade. Everything else is new, about one year old. Hotel is a two block walk from the ferry from Buenos Aires and is in the old historic district. This area is a little marginal so you need to be careful at night. The hotel actually provided […] us with security to walk from the hotel to a restaurant not more than 300 yards away. That probably wasn't necessary. The entire area is in transition and if we were going to buy an apartment in Montevideo this is the area we would pick. Also, there are fantastic restaurants in the Port Market just across the street from the hotel. I wouldn't recommend the hotel for families. There is just not much for kids to do except that there is a very nice pool. Breakfast comes with the room and it included eggs, rolls, meats, cheeses, yogurt, toast, fruit...basically everything you would want. Mehr

I used this hotel for myself and part of my production, working on a shoot in December. Hotel has great location, just few steps from the food / meat market, close to other restaurants, so this is great. But I had to move very frist day because of leaking IC and my client did you twice, because of IC and then her electricity went down. I was staying […] in 2nd floor and bathroom did not smell very pleasant. Later I moved to pool level and it was great. Nice, bigger room, with view and air. My beloved and myself could only stay for one night, but for one night the location of this hotel was the best location to see the city for what it is (in a positive evolution). The staff was more than courteous to us (a couple of Spanish-challenge travelers) and extremely helpful. Even though we arrived quite early for a 2:00 check-in from our ferry […] ride from Buenos Aires (location is only a ten minute walk from the dock), they greeted us with warmth, glasses of champagne and provided safe storage for our luggage while well explored the “old city”. They even help to provide us with a reliable Taxi at four o’clock in the morning which took us straight to the airport. Hotel is located in a unique location. Close to the port and the Mercado del Puerto. Steps from the door of the hotel is the Mercado del Puerto with its many bars and restaurants as well as produce stalls. Other restaurants and shops surround the Mercado del Puerto. To my surprise my room had a deck/patio outside my room. The room had a mini-bar, but the bar in the lobby was open 24 hours. There is a pool on a neighboring roof top connected to the main part of the hotel. Also there's a roof top bar and deck open during the season. On the first level is a free computer. The breakfast is great! The way the food is presented makes you feel like you're somewhere special, and you are! The entire staff is excellent, especially Alejandro who was helpful in everyway. Tours can be arranged directly by the hotel as well as requests for taxis. In Montevideo I would not stay anywhere else but at the Don Boutique Hotel. Mehr

A very beautiful and professional hotel in the old town of Montevideo. Close to many sights and several nice restaurants. Also just across the street from the mercado del puerto, a collection of shops and great parrillas.

Fabulous hotel! Great staff, great modern art deco decor. Very conveniently located in the old town. Although they suggest not going more than a block from the hotel at night the local restaurant El Palenque is excellent! ... and I would definitely stay at The Don again.

The hotel is very clean, the staff is very helpful. The interior decoration of the hotel is exceptional. As an architect I admired it. The hotel is located in Ciudad Vieja (old town). Mercado del Puerto is across the street. You can start your day a very elegant breakfast before you leave. It is a real Boutique Hotel.

The hotel has a beautiful art deco exterior, is located in the Old City next to the market and some great restaurants. The interior is ultra-modern, the room was sparkling clean with tasteful decor and all the conveniences from a safe to a bidet (one has to ask for a hair dryer but one was brought to us in seconds). The desk clerks were all wonderful, […] fluent in English, the breakfast was over-the-top (we put a photo of it on facebook). The neighborhood is fascinating during the day and a little scary at night - the hotel insisted on providing an escort to a nearby restaurant (and the restaurant provided one back to the hotel). The hotel owner himself walked with us a few blocks to a tango milonga event that turned out to be closed. It appears to be safe to come and go at night by taxi. This is a great place to stay, and will be even more wonderful once the city completes some renewal projects in the area. I've stayed at top boutique hotels from Manhattan to San Francisco and the Don Boutique matches the best. Mehr

Beautiful sunsets from the swimming pool which is on the fourth floor. since visitors are likely to go to the mercato it would be a great place to stay. Police is securing the area for cruice passengers, close to the port. During the evening and night the area change character.
