The room was nicely arranged and decorated. Unfortunately, there were food spills on the main wall in the bedroom and in the bathroom. In addition, the linen and comforter had holes in them. The staff was helpful and moved me into a nicer room for one night when my television stopped working.

My husband & I wanted to get away for the night and we live nearby. We had a good time. I highly recommend this hotel and we'll come back here for our anniversary!

Our stay was amazing. The staff was friendly and the hotel was beautiful. The amenities in the room were spectacular and the continental breakfast was great. We were able to have drinks and dance in the lobby bar.

My wife and I wanted to have a quick one night getaway in a nice hotel and the American Hotel fit the bill perfectly. The room was like new, the bedding was super comfortable and the hotel was perfect. We went out for a nice dinner and returned to find a nice bar scene with good entertainment. Great find and a nice break from the chain hotels...ideal for business or a couples get a way. Mall is only 2 miles away if you get the itch.

This is an excellent boutique hotel. My stay was exceptional. Surrounded by a variety of local businesses, food and drink. It misses a bit of what a larger staffed hotel offers but more than makes up the difference in small town charm, cleanliness and polite staff. Everything seems brand new and VERY clean. With all the happenings going on in Asbury Park and Ocean Grove we could not get local reservations. The closest we could get was American Hotel in Freehold. After reading the reviews about noise I was apprehensive, especially after finding out we were on the second floor. Needless to say, we were delighted with the hotel. The night life did not interupt […] our privacy nor sleep and the hotel was so charming. We loved our stay. The room was very comfortable and had everything you could ask for - iron, ironing board, coffee maker, refrig, etc. We cannot wait to return to the Jersey Shore and stay here again. Mehr

This is a rare instance where the photos of this hotel don't do it justice. It far exceeded our expectations from the pics (and as most do, they made it look pretty nice). It has a very Bourbon Street feel, with the balconies and streetfront outdoor seating areas. It is an older hotel building that has been superbly modernized and refurbished, without […] losing it's charm. The lobby bar is great, as is the attached restaurant and bar. Nice Hotel! Surroundings need a little work but Freehold is getting there. We enjoyed our stay though. Comfortable quiet room. I would stay there again.

This hotel was in a lovely spot, walking distance from restaurants with outdoor seating, and just a short distance from Six Flags. The room was large and clean, lobby was clean and nicely decorated. Free continental breakfast was better than any other free continental breakfast I had eaten at any other hotel. Rate was reasonable for that room. Very […] reasonable!. I would stay there again and recommend to a friend to stay there. One complaint, though. It seems if a hotel served breakfast from 7-11am in the lobby, the cleaning staff would be directed to avoid running the vacuum cleaner in the lobby during that time. It was a little annoying when we were trying to have a nice relaxing breakfast. Mehr

had a recent overnight stay at the american hotel in freehold,nj.roomm was very clean,bathroom newly modernized. We had dinner in the hotel's restaurant.food was very good .service abit slow.

I have stayed at this property a number of times and will continue to do so when the opportunity arises. The hotel is comfortable clean and friendly. Great bar is attached. You can not go wrong.

What a fantastic old hotel! Had to stay in the area for a series of customer visits and was not impressed with the 'chains' that were options, so took a chance on this facility. Definitely has a 'Bed & Breakfast" feel with a wonderful restaurant / bar within the hotel - one of the best meals I've had while traveling in a long while!!! My only 'ding' […] was on parking which is located to the rear of the hotel in a municipal lot - completely unmarked and proved a challenge for check-in. Other than that, the staff was wonderful and quality of the room far exceeded the price. Mehr

The American Hotel was a treat to stay in. The room was impressively maintained and stylishly arranged. The bed was comfortable; the sheets and pillows were delightful. The bathroom was large and comfortable. There was a nice desk to work at and a beautiful 40" flat screen TV mounted on the wall. For those that it might interest, I arrived on St. Patrick's […] day, and there was a raging party in the hotel's bar on the first floor. It definiitely infused the place with energy. It ended at a reasonable hour (2 am), and in the morning, everything was clean and ready for breakfast. Breakfast was tasty, but if you're going to offer microwaveable oatmeal, then you might want to provide a microwave. The desk clerk was kind enough to take mine to the kitchen to be microwaved, which was great, but it seemed a little odd. Overall, I enjoyed my stay very much! Mehr

Based on a previous review complaining about the noise, when I checked in I asked for a room away from the staircase. When I returned to the hotel after a late dinner, the noise level in the lobby was very high. I was pleasantly surprised that once I got into my room it was very quiet. I would definately stay here again.

Everyone I met was just about perfect! From the front desk to the trio of bartenders, not to mention meeting the owner himself! Outstanding! A gem in the heart of Freehold... I know where I will stay EVERY SINGLE TIME I COME TO FREEHOLD!

Attractive lobby in warm colors with blazing fireplace welcomes guests. Nice bar in lobby with great restaurants within walking distance. Beautiful, comfortable rooms. Wonderful place to stay if you're visiting the Freehold area.

Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights are entertainment nights in the bar on the first floor. The music reverberates throughout the hotel, especially in the rooms closest to the open stairway from the lobby. I just couldn’t believe that the music continued after 11, after 12 and after 1 AM. When the bar closed at 2 there was a sing along around the lobby […] piano. Give me a break. This is a three floor boutique hotel, not some rambling skyscraper. When questioned about it the following morning, the staff blew it off as business as usual. I appreciate the fact that cash flow is important and recouping the investment in the restored hotel is of paramount importance, but decide where the revenue stream is to come from, either the bar or the hotel. Take my word for it, stay here only in the beginning of the week. Mehr

The American Hotel was very comfortable, clean, well decorated, and conveniently located. While we didn't have the time to really explore Main Street. There appeared to be a good selection of restaurants and activities near the hotel. It is also close to many of the attractions in Central NJ. It was about 20 minutes to Long Branch and the beach area […] their, 25 minutes to Red Bank, about 20 minutes to Allaire State park. The value for the price was more than equally priced chain hotels closer to these areas. It is worth your money. Mehr
