Americas Best Value Inn-San Diego Downtown - San Diego

Ich hab 4 Nächte in diesem Hotel gebucht. Der erste Schock war gleich zu Beginn. Überall in der direkten Umgebung lagen die homeless Leute rum. Damit war klar, dass man also Frau allein das Hotel abends nicht zu Fuß aufsucht und schon kamen Taxikosten hinzu. Das kontinentale Frühstück war wie erwartet. Bagels, Toast, Philadelphia, Marmelade, Äpfel, […] Orangen, süße Teilchen, Kornflakes, Orangensaft, Tee und Kaffee. Leider gab es dass Frühstück offiziell von 7 bis 10 Uhr. Aber um 7 Uhr war es an keinem der Tage fertig. Schlecht, wenn man morgens früh raus muss.... Dass Zimmer selbst war nicht sauber, ich fände Haare und Dreck vom Vorgänger. Denn versprochenen Flachbild-TV gab es nicht, einen Föhn auch nicht. Hier ergatterte ich auf Anfrage an der Rezeption den letzten... Großes Manko ist auch die Sicherheit. Ich hatte ein Zimmer am Innenhof und jeder lief an meinem Fenster vorbei, dass man oroblemlos von.außen öffnen konnte. Ein Safe gab es im Zimmer auch nicht. Zudem gab es enormen Fluglärm. Ich werde dieses Hotel nicht mehr buchen! Mehr

I stayed on a Saturday night and went to be around midnight. Around 2:30 am a loud drunk group of guest decided to continue their party outside of their rooms in the hotel court yard. I expected a small room, and had issue with size. However, the room was VERY stuffy. The A/C unit blew a huge puff of dust in my face, but luckily the windows opened so I could catch a breeze. I was only able to access 3 channels on the television, which sucked since I enjoy relaxing by watching TV after a long day of work. Their was free breakfast […] which consisted of apples, oranges, some sort of honey buns, chocolate muffins and instant coffee. I mean, at the least they could have provided freshly brewed coffee, right? On my last day (thankfully), I caught a cab whose driver informed me that he previously refused service to people giving the ABVI address because people were using the rooms for illegal activity. Sure, the room was inexpensive; however, next time I'll gladly fork over more money for my comfort and peace of mind. Mehr

I stayed 4 nights at this hotel for a conference. While it was 30 min walking distance from San Diego conference center, walk was worth the savings. Interestingly they have both microwave and refrigerator in the room and the morning breakfast is pretty decent. Though 4th day, I wanted something different. I think the hotel is exactly what the name stands for, a value inn. Nothing fancy. A bed, tv, bathroom.

Positives - nice staff, good location Negatives - microwave/refrigerator in bathroom (gross!), difficult to find street parking that doesn't require waking up at 8:00 am to feed a meter, no king-sized beds

I spent a week here for a conference. Every employee I encountered was very polite and helpful. The hotel is 2 blocks from a bus stop. The bed was more firm than I like (I prefer a pillow top). Pretty courtyard. Overall, I was very pleased for the price.

Everyone working there is super nice, however it is surrounded by homeless people, wayyyy to dangerous to walk out your door at night, the rooms are extremely outdated and old. The "Queen" bed was the size of a very small full, and the comforters were probably the original ones from the 1960's. We only stayed for one night and only best for one night, maybe two. I'm not quite sure if I'd come back. We arrived 2 hours prior to check-in and our room was not ready yet. After checking-in, it wasn't until we got settled in that I noticed there were bed bug casings under the wool sheets. Luckily, we had brought an extra blanket. And for some reason, every person working the front desk had the same reasoning for each of our questions, whether it be "What time will our rooms be ready?" or "Will we be okay to take our car out and still have a parking spot in the lot ?", they all would anwer "I dont know because we're expecting a lot more people to check-in". I don't think that was a really professional answer? The best part is that the hotel is conveniently located near the Gaslamp District. It's also away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Paper thin walls so if your neighbor wakes up at 6 so do you. No curtains on the windows so sun wakes you up bright and early no sleeping in. Hotel staff not pleasant at all lady at desk made me feel like I was a hassle because she had to stop playing on her phone and check me into the hotel. I recommend staying at this hotel if you are in town for business. I stayed three nights and it was quite comfortable. The only thing is that the AC unit was not clean. It had some dust and sunflower seeds. The bed is quite comfortable and the bathroom very clean, which are my main concern. TV is good size and has basic cable channels. If you're the […] type who likes to read before going to bed, the lighting set up for this is not very good, but the room does have a decent wi fi and small table to work on, if you need to do some business online into the night. The hotel had all the basics and was within walking distance of the gaslamp district. However, every 10-15 minutes would fly over in its approach to the nearby San Diego airport. I spent 5 days here and thought it was a really decent place. It even had a couple of gym machinesand acceptable breakfast, plus fridge and microwave in room. Bobby on reception was particularly helpful. Absolutely fantastic value.

The non-smoke room has smoky smell. The hotel service is nice and enthusiastic.

This hotel was very affordable - I was in San Diego for a conference and four nights at the America's Best Value Inn was still cheaper than one night at the conference hotel, and breakfast was included! Good option for saving money in the city.

My best friend and I stayed here for one night, and we had mixed emotions about the place. Some pros and cons: Pros: - Within walking distance (8 blocks or so) of Horton Plaza. We walked to the mall and trolley stop, and could have gone a couple blocks further to get to the gas lamp district. We agreed we would not have made the walk at night, but […] during the day it was fine. - Within walking distance of Balboa Park. Like, literally... you are 2 blocks away. Awesome. - Gentleman at the front desk was very courteous and accommodating. We arrived at noon (3 hours before check-in time) and he found an available room so we could check in early. - Working fridge, in-sink garbage disposal, hair dryer, and wall heater. - Clean shower. Hot water steady, adjustable, and almost instantaneous, and not overly chlorinated or softened. Shower drained quickly (not clogged with hair or anything gross like that). - Complimentary breakfast of bagels, muffins, coffee, and various juices, all fresh and individually wrapped. - Flat screen TV in room. We didn't use it though, so I don't know if it worked/what channels were available. Cons: - PARKING. Parking on all blocks near the hotel is 2-hour metered parking from 8 am to 6 pm. It's free at night, but we wanted to leave our car and use public transportation during the day, so we ended up spending about 20 bucks for 24-hr parking in the lot across the street. - Non-smoking room had obviously been smoked in. Not overwhelming, but definitely noticeable. - Active construction site across the street as of our visit in April 2012. Construction noise was minimal with the window closed. I wish I could post a picture of the view from our window though... it was hilariously ugly. - IN THE FLIGHT PATH FOR SAN DIEGO AIRPORT. All landing planes fly directly over the buildings two blocks away, and there is at least one every five to ten minutes. Not so bad with the window closed, but not ideal if you need your beauty sleep. - Toilet wa Mehr

Property was located down town and was as advertised. If you want a great value and a clean room this was great. No frills basic accommodation. Served a breakfast at no charge. I would recommend this hotel and stay there again.

Know upfront the room is very small. Other than that though, it's a great price for downtown San Diego. The staff is very nice and helpful. It's clean and safe. There's even a very good continental breakfast in the morning. Can't do much better for that price in a big city.

The rooms were clean and staff was friendly. It was in a good location. The only issue I had was the parking which you will have to pay directly across the street or drive around looking for free street parking and the area was kind of sketchy. All in all, the hotel suited my needs fine.

Rude staff

The good part of the hotel is that it is right by downtown- near the center of the entertainment. parking is not as bad as it looks. there isn't a parking lot, but there are plenty of side ones if you know how to parallel park. there's a Mexican food place right next to it if you ever hungry and got lazy to drive out. Price fits the place. The bad part […] is that the hotel wasn't as clean as it appears. the sink sort of clogs, the bedding looked stained- but I kind of expected that.. I just didn't want to see it..- bed wasn't too comfy. Overall; what you pay is what you get. I'm pretty sure you can find another better place for just a couple bucks more.. but it doesn't hurt if your just looking for a place to stay. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable and the shower was big. The location is also great if you are ging to the SanDiego Zoo, its a 5 min drive away. The only problems were that the bed took up almost the entire room with very little space to move and open suitcases around it. And there is no parking lot so you have to find places to park on the […] surrounding blocks. This is not terrible, but should be noted for people who have a harder time getting around. Mehr

Too noisy all night with people upstairs walking around and too many voices carried in the courtyard outside my room. I didn't sleep at all. During the day....airplanes overhead. I had booked 3 nights...stayed one and left to find a different hotel. Also, parking is $17.50 a day across the street....deal...no deal...NO DEAL.

Hotle is cheap, what do you expect! Best town i have visited so far best people i met but hotel bed was uncomfy very loud surrounding area and desk staff where so rude! Would not stay here again but i guess you pay for what you get!

Stayed here for five days in March. Great price. My room was on the North side, so I heard the planes overhead, but then I closed the window and the noise stopped bothering me. Our room door didn't close well on its own, which was an issue on one day after the cleaning staff left it open, but there was nothing stolen. The front desk woman was very […] friendly and helpful. Distance to the convention center was a bit far, and there isn't much to eat right next door, but if you're able to walk 5-10 minutes, there is plenty nearby. Very friendly receptionists! Good job! Clean and renovated stylish rooms. Even the landing airplanes may not be a problem. It is the doors and perhaps walls are sound permeable. We could here people coming after midnight talking to each other. Of course it is more of the problem of disrespectful people, not hotel. I heard how a lady told her man "Sh-sh-sh-sh", […] but the guy still talked loudly. The doors do not protect almost from any noise. Breakfast is missing proteins completely. Once I arrived at the hotel, I first noticed that it was not what I thought it was like in the pictures. We went up to our room that had towels on the floor, tissues thrown around, open soap, etc. The room had clearly not been cleaned. We told the front desk we would be leaving for awhile and asked if our room can please be cleaned because it had not […] been prior to our arrival. We got back THREE hours later, and the room had still not been cleaned!! We called the front desk again and they offered to change rooms for us. Our new room was nicer, better maintained and will updated furniture, so not all the rooms are alike. Although our new room was cleaner, the TV didn't work. The front desk said the technician had gone home and pretty much did not offer to help. We had to call them again and the general manager came up and was messing around all the outlets for 15 minutes and finally got the TV working but was very rude and did not even apologize for the inconvenience. This hotel seems like people also live there, and I would not recommend staying at this hotel if you are coming with your family or children. The only reason we stayed was because they would not refund our money. If you want a clean room, available parking, a decent sized room, and friendly staff, you should stay somewhere else. The ONLY positive about this hotel was the location. It was right above the gaslamp district and right next to the zoo. However, there are many other hotels in this same are. Only thing I would do is get a south side room. The jets landing at SAN are exactly over head two blocks north of the hotel. It wasn't too bad, but I'd select a south side room next time.

Stayed here for 5 nights for a conference in SD. It's an older property; the rooms are small and the walls thin. But, the price is tough to beat. The property is well-maintained, the service is very good (front desk is polite and helpful), and the WiFi works well and is free.
