Can't fault this hotel. Great location, lovely rooms, great staff. Highly recommended.

We loved how the hotel had been designed to maintain the beautiful characteristics of the original building. The hotel staff were very attentive, the room spacious & well equipped to a high standard. We were also impressed with the cleanliness of the entire hotel.

I booked the hotel for an anniversary and birthday treat. It was an excellent hotel, staff were great and food in the restaurant was good. It was an easy walk into the city centre, although York is very small and accessible. The spa at the hotel was also very good and worth booking if you are able. We recently stayed here for a romantic getaway and found it to be a beautiful hotel. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Spa was a great addition and to a very good standard. Location was convenient for the station being only a short walk away. Would definitely stay again if returned to York.

This was our 1st visit to this hotel in york, it was a treat to both our hard work, the welcome at the main door was a great start to our stay, we got checked in off a lovely young lady very helpful indeed, the room was superb, we used the pool and spa facilities on our stay which was at no extra cost, this was the perfect stay in york and will be coming […] back again. Wonderful service, but breakfast is exorbitantly expensive.

This hotel was indeed very grand and we enjoyed our stay from the moment we arrived and our carparking horror was taken care of with the valet parking for a fee. The little extras like a fridge, ironing facilities and even speakers in the bathroom to enable a soak in the tub whilst listening to some music on the tv. Very nice and would return.

Only complaint is they gave us a room with an ensuite that was configured for disabled people. No bath. Special adjustments. Tiny low sink. Not really what you want on a romantic mini break and when you paid a very high price per night. If you go. Make sure you specify exactly what you want.

Lovely old building with all mod cons. Five mins walk in to York city. Very good staff well looked after. Will return

Positives: Arrived at 1.30pm and asked for an early checkin - no problem. location superb 3 min from rail and 5 mins from minster. Breakfast good, although service not fast, i wasnt on business so that didnt matter. Pool area really nice worth visiting just to see entrance which are the old vault safe doors. Negatives: building works next door which […] was noisy (not hotel fault). Fridge in room noisy so i turned off. tea/coffee kettle hidden away and i didnt find until day 2. Parking expensive at £20 when normal york price is £8.50 Overall: I really like the hotel it was clean and tidy in a good location and i would stay there again next time i am in york. I wouldnt say it is a 5*, but it is a very good 4* Highly recommended. Mehr

This hotel was excellent, We have stayed in a few good hotels in York but this one exceeded them all, For price. convenience and facilities it was A+

We stayed at the Cedar Court for the first time this weekend . I dropped my bag off early and was told that if a room became free before three I would get a call. no call so I went after work to check in. was kept waiting whilst the reception dealt with another customer. room was cold and it transpired that the heating wasn't working. complained to […] reception and went back to find a fan heater there. husband went to complain. No apology! asked for a change of room and concierge moved bags. altogether not a great atmospher and the overall impression was that they were oing us a massive favour staying there. they have one more chance with a corporate do we're attending in Feb so let's see if they read this site and pull their socks up! Having travelled world wide, quite extensively, the highest quality of the staff at Cedar Court Grand Hotel inYork ,are an example to all.

Excellent location 2 minutes walk from train station and 5 minutes walk into city centre. Executive room was large with a very big, very comfortable bed. Lovely bathroom and separate shower room with underfloor heating. Very clean throughout. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will stay here the next time we visit York!

This is a lovely hotel steeped in history, but for 5 star status it lacked atmosphere. It felt big and empty. Reception is small and not very grand, however the bar areas were lovely and had ambience. The rooms were nice and spacious however they are very dark and we had to ask for additional lighting as some of the lamps were broken. The bathrooms […] were beautiful with Molton Brown, however the mini bar had an open bottle on arrival and despite asking for it to be removed serval times it wasnt. Watch out for the car parking charges - £20 per night! The spa is very beautiful and new however we were dissappointed as it was closed on our first day, filled with girlie spa days on our second day and the jacuzzi was broken on third day, but the pool,sauna, gym and changing facilities were great. Good hotel, situated just inside York's old city walls and convenient for access to the town centre and tourist attractions. Only downside was perhaps slightly 'over-attentive' service and lacklustre cocktails and breakfast. However, would stay again.

The Cedar Court Grand in York is a top flight luxury hotel with excellent service, and a lovely spa with a good size (for a hotel) swimming pool. The hotel is very handy for the rail station (5 mins walk) but within the city walls so near to shops and attractions. The spa facilities are excellent too, with free use of the pool and steam rooms etc. A […] great place to go for a relaxing break! Our bed and breakfast accomodation was for two nights and we loved York so much we wanted to stay longer. Cedar Court was suggested for our third night and luckily for us they had a wonderful room for us. We wish we had stayed there for the whole time... or could stay longer! We stayed here for my birthday and we had a lovely time at the hotel. The rooms are big and the little touches such as molton brown toiletries, underfloor heating in the bathroom and turn down service made it feel like luxuary.

Very disappointing. Room very cold, no double glazing and A/C inadequate. Very poor dining, Chef obsessed with fancy presentation but food dreadful. Beautifully presented seared scallops but served stone cold. Tournedos Rossini requested medium, served charred on a crouton which appeared to have been superglued to the plate. Slimy spinach and supposedly […] seared foie gras served bleeding! Breakfast was better, best hotel toast I have had for a long time. The afternoon tea looked great but the finger sandwiches must have just been taken out of the freezer. The pastries looked delicious but were old and stale. However the warm scones were brilliant! In the hotel blurb it states this is a 5 star hotel for York which has been given a Yorkshire twist. As a good Yorkshireman I strongly resent that comment. This fine old building has been spoiled by the attempt to fuse the old with the new. Veneered MDF headboards and wardrobes, cheap armchairs and inadequate lighting in the rooms do not make for 5 stars. We were parked on the road outside of the hotel instead of in the nearby NCP park but were still charged £20 per night. Mehr

We had a lovely stay in this hotel.The service was excellent and nothing was too much trouble. The pool and spa just made it more enjoyable.

Faultless quality and service. We did not have breakfast in the hotel so cannot comment on that but otherwise thoroughly enjoyable.

A thoroughly enjoyable stay in a delightful hotel. the staff were extremely helpful. When we go back to York this is definately the place i will stay again!

A lovely hotel in a location a few minutes walk from the centre. The reception staff were the freindliest I've aver come accross and really helpful. The rooms were really comfortable and clean and the turn down service is great too. The Spa and the hot tub were a fab way to relax after a hard day's shopping!

Peaceful and very convenient location amongst some multistory buildings, with lovely views of the City Walls and Minster from some bedrooms and public rooms. Five minute walk from Railway station and five minute walk across Lendal Bridge to main areas of interest. Most importantly, it is situated away from the very noisy, late night activity areas in […] the bar and club district of the city. Beautifully converted and elegant hotel with spacious, well designed bedrooms. Very courteous, but friendly, approachable, helpful staff. Arrived early at 13.30, so our room wasn't ready and we left our bags and went for a stroll around town. Returned at 15.30 and after a moment of doubt, the reception staff confirmed our room was ready for us and we were taken by a delightful young lady, who gave us some interesting information about the history of the building and showed us around our room. The only reason I have not given top rating for service and maintenance is that: 1. On our first arrival at 13.30, there was no-one behind the reception desk and only one young gentleman in the reception area dealing with several newly arrived guests like us waiting around to be welcomed. 2. Although we asked for more tea bags and milk one evening, they never arrived. 3.The hand towel rail, in our bathroom, was not secured at one end (needed a screw tightening) and we purposely left it dangling so the house staff would see it and organise its repair. However, they simply popped it back in place without securing and it fell off again. However, these minor things did not spoil our enjoyment and I would stay at the Cedar Court again and I would recommend it to my friends. Mehr

I stayed overnight while visiting York - as delightful a medieval city as can be found. The hotel is new and is in the former offices of a major railroad. The building is stunning, and converting it to a hotel has been done with respect for its past. My room was huge, very comfortable, and quiet. Staff is very attentive. My daughter and I stayed at this hotel for three nights while touring York and the surrounding area. This hotel is absolutely top quality. Our room was beautifully appointed with unusually high ceilings, an elegant double bathroom and quality bedding. The staff couldn't do enough for us. Just utterly fabulous, made a special weekend even more special, only one draw back was that breakfast was not included in the room rates, and i was quite pricey but other than that fab!

we were not disappointed in any way with our stay at the Cedar Court Hotel from arriving with my mother in a wheelchair the staff could not have been more helpful and pleasant,and the rooms were lovely, clean and comfortable. We used the facilities i.e sauna, steam room,swimming pool and jacuzzi, only one problem my mother was unable to climb down into […] swimming pool and jacuzzi,not easy to get into when 80yrs old. Breakfast was very nice a good selection of fruit and pastries which set us up for a lovely day shopping in York, would definately like to return in the future. Mehr

I've stayed at far more expensive hotels and they were not nearly as good as this one. Lot's of space in the room, great decor, comfortable bed, friendly and professional staff, etc. I would stay again in a heartbeat if I go back to York.

My wife and I usually go to York once a year. This year after checking hotels on Hotels.com we decided to stay at the Cedar Court Grand. What a tremendous choice. We have stayed at 5 star hotels in Britain and Europe and we found the hotel ranking among our top choices. Location was excellent-close to both the railway station and the major sites in […] York. Excellent service, very helpful and great food

This is the best hotel I have stayed in in years. Our room was large, airy and very well appointed. Service from the concierges was particularly good, they were very knowledgable and helpful. Valet car parking worked a treat. Restaurant staff also very friendly yet not pushy. The steak was excellent.

Having stayed in many so called luxury hotels, this one stands out from the rest. The ceilings are so high in the rooms, large windows allow lots of natural light. Heated floor in the (very large) bathroom were a perfect unexpected bonus. I haven't a single complaint. The spa, although small, is nicely lit and has a clean, warm appearance. Little touches […] like the turn down service... which left a little card with tomorrows weather on it were cute. Im very happy with my stay here, Especially for the price! I also left a dress in the wardrobe, the hotel kindly sent it to me and it arrived next day. Very happy, will definitely return here next time i'm in York Mehr

excellent stay no problem only stayed for one night if we,d stayed longer would have asked to change rooms because of building work next door

The five star ranking is appropriate here. Spacious, luxurious rooms and facilities, and close to the city center. Excellent value.

Very much enjoyed a 3 night stay at the Cedar Court in an executive room that provided plenty of space and facilities in both the bedroom and bathroom. The hotel has been sympathetically renovated to a high standard and has retained a lot of its original character features including the "vaults" which now houses the pool, gym and health spa which we […] used at the end of each day to unwind. A very good hotel for comfort & convenience. Only a 5 minutes walk to York Minster & centre. My only dis-satisfaction was where my room was located. My view from the window was the sight of an office block & trades men entrance. The only time I saw any other views was from the breakfast room and when I went out to explore.
