Casulo Hotel - Austin

Overall the stay was good, the hotel was cool and clean. Our shower tiles were broken but other than that it was good. Walls are kind of thin so we heard our neighbors having relations until one am. But the hotel attracts a young hip crowd so we did not mind in fact it made our stay a little more fun.

Even though a relatively new property the hotel was not very well kept. I had to change rooms 2 times (ac not working, toilet broken). Service personnel was nice ed, but not enough to compensate. Pool & surrounding areas were also not very nice. Location was good, but right off the freeway. I would never stay nor recommend this hotel.

We have stayed at Casulo Hotel numerous times since 2010 and have always told our friends and family about our wonderful stay. Several friends have enjoyed their stay as well. Our room was less than average, broken chaise, light bulbs needed to be replaced, there were brown stains on the bathroom wall, and the light inside the shower/tub area was not […] working, but the thing most disturbing was the mildew on the tile and around the tub and shower floor. As I turned in the keys, I explained all this to the front desk clerk, and she didn't seem to too concerned. Today, I wrote an email to the GM, so he is aware of this recent stay and have this particular room in tip-top shape for the next guest. "T" Mehr

My boyfriend and I live in NW Austin and we wanted to do something different for our 2nd Anniversary. I have two kids and a busy work life, my bf is also a busy man and we don't always get time for ourselves. Choosing the Casulo Hotel was one of the best decisions we've made for our personal pleasure, we had the most wonderful & relaxing time. We highly […] recommend it if you want to get away from your busy daily life and take a few hours for yourself. It's also close to the downtown area where there are lots culinary choices for your pallet as well as the night life if you want to want to have a little fun, the lake if you want to take an early morning walk or the movies if you want to enjoy a new film. We chose to take a cab from the hotel downtown and back after our night out and it was extremely affordable and quicker than finding a parking space and paying a fee. From the looks of the outside, you wouldn't think that the rooms are as nice as they are. The beds are super comfy and the rooms are spacious. The "breakfast" consisted of free cereal, milk, OJ, water, and bagels. Not really what I would call a full breakfast... but they will SELL you eggs for $2. This hotel is so so. They had no room service when advertised there was. The location is right off the highway so it can be heard. My 7 year old could have given better service. There are no places to get a decent meal that are close by. If you just needs quick place to lay your head and get a shower, this is your place. It's more like an upscale motel. […] The pictures and description make it seem nicer than really is. The rooms have been recently redone which was nice. Like I said, it's good for an in and out stay. The room is well designed just like you see in the photo. Really cool shower. The lobby and hallway is where they kind of dropped the ball. No design at all, mixing Chinese stuff with Western decor. The staff at night was so so. I checked in at midnight. A kid seems a little tired. I guess he might not be that happy being forced to dress in some kind […] of Chinese traditional clothes. This is an older hotel and renovated. I was disappointed that the breakfast is not included. I would only recommend it if it has a big sale on the price. Nice place to stay and easily to get to downtown

Great location to South Austin and lovely accommodations. Loved the over-sized bathtub and beds very comfy. Only criticism was poor acoustics. Heard sounds all night. Had a rowdy group down the hall and hacking cough coming from next room.

The hotel was clean, but not as close I thought I read on the description being close to 6th Street. The walls were thin and we could hear our neighbors and the window to the bathroom was definitely a conversational piece.

We payed a pretty penny to stay in the Jacuzzi Suite, that i saw such good reviews about. I was excited to stay here for my weekend away with my husband, until we got into the room... The jacuzzi had hair in it, the shower area had old soap still in the soap dish, & the bath tub had hair in it as well. So who really knows if the linens were clean. When […] i told the front desk, which im assuming is the manager, he refused to give me a discount for not bein able to use the jacuzzi because it was filthy. He said since i booked through this website, i would have to ask them. So i called the # where i booked through, they left me on holod for 30 mins, then when i called back left me on hold for another 20 mins, just to tell me there was nothing they could do about it. There is no conditioner in the rooms, so girls, unless u like to spend ur whole afternoon just trying to brush ur hair, u might want to take ur own conditioner. The rooms were very musty smelling, which ive never had a problem with staying in other jaccuzi suites. I cant believe the high rating for this hotel. I never have left such a bad review. Will never stay here again, Id rather spend a little extra on one of the beautiful hotels downtown. Mehr

This was a very nice small and quiet hotel. Excellent value! Very nice room and even though it is located on busy I35 with a lot of traffic, we could not hear any highway noise. We would stay there again. The only problem is access. One MUST exit at Woodward exit going either north or south. Otherwise, the access is tricky.

The room itself was great, they did an excellent job on the bathroom and overall design of the room. Great bed, furniture, decor, etc. However, we picked this hotel in part because of a spa, which is very important to me, and when we got there we saw a sign that is was broken, arghh! I asked the front desk clerk and told her that we'd picked the place […] because of the spa and she said she'd talk to the manager about it. Not sure if that ever happened or not but I certainly never heard from anyone about it. This was a huge disappointment and deal killer for me. They should have posted that on their site and at the very least humored me with an apology. Also - breakfast is a very large joke - two handles of cold cereal and some bread with jelly in a packet. I was excited to go to this hotel after seeing mostly positive reviews. When I first arrived, I was surprised by the parking lot....kinda of nervous to park in the dark back lot alone. I walked in the lobby and it was nice, no complaints there. When I checked into the suite I got I walked in and first thing I noticed was the lights by the bed were […] taped to the wall as they were falling off. I tried to over look it but then I also noticed the room wasn't like in the pictures online. I went to the front desk and they moved me to another suite where it was more like the pictures and without the tape on the walls. This room was nice or so I thought until I turned on the lights in the shower areas. One word I thought of was BLEACH....there was mold all over the floors and walls in the showers. This place needed a very deep scrubbing. The bed was nice and hotel would have been a lot better if it was maintained. I don't think this would be my first pick to stay at again. Mehr

The location was perfect for us . . . very close to SoCo and a quick drive into town. The bathrooms are like your own private spa . . . great for relaxing after a day hiking around Town Lake. The staff is friendly and eager to please. We've stayed there twice already and plan to visit again on our next trip to Austin.

There is a small sign for this hotel so you can very well pass it by without knowing. It was at a great location for an event I went to in downtown Austin. The room was a bit odd since it had a window in the middle of the room so you can see inside the shower, but there is a window blind to close it. Breakfast was nothing more than cereal, coffee, […] and regular slices of bread. There's a reason why they tell you at check-in if you want "something else" for breakfast to do room service at an additional charge. The hotel was comfortable. Mehr

Me and my baby had a great time in this hotel. It was nice and friendly. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone that is planning on staying in the Austin, TX area for a few days. I cannot wait to go back and have a good time like I did for my 3 day stay.

We had enjoy our stay at the Casulo Hotel. It had a unique design. Everything was easy to fine. It even had a talking elevator that kept me inform which way to go up or down. I was able carry on a brief conver- sation the short time we was there. It had a clear glass? wall between the bedroom and bathroom. Our room was wonderful, different and perfect for a couples get-a-way. I was highly disapointed with the continental breakfast which consisted of toast and cereal. I was also looking forward to relaxing in the jacuzzi which we found out was not working. The service was average. My wife and I came to Austin for one night so I could run the Livestrong Marathon on 2/19/12. I picked this hotel because it was close in, had a relatively low rate for a race weekend (I learned when I arrived that they were unaware of the marathon and neglected to raise their prices until it was too late), and it looked interesting on their website. The […] room was fairly large and had a very nice bed with a down comforter and pillows. In the lobby and hallways there are some interesting decorations. There was a large, new flat panel TV with many channels. The wall separating the sleeping area from the tub/shower is glass (there is a curtain) and the shower had two heads - one on the wall and one on the ceiling. Very cool place. One complaint is that the back door to the hotel does not have a card reader and only a cheap-o lock. The parking is almost all in the back. This means two important things: (1) you have to walk around to the front door at night and early morning and (2) in case of fire, you have to find another way out because there was no emergency release bar on the door either (there was a fire exit in the stairwell nearby that said it was alarmed, but was not - I used it at 5:30 AM to get to my car for the race). The hotel is conveniently located right off of I-35 and is close to the South Congress (SOCO) district and to downtown. The drive (no traffic) to downtown is maybe ten minutes. The hotel appeared to be clean and safe. I would recommend it to others. Mehr

We booked this hotel for a romantic night away in Austin and the location was easy to get to. View was amazing from the corner room with huge windows BUT the room was dirty. The furniture was stained and the sofa was broken. The bathroom has the worst lighting ever but this is made up for by the fact that the room had a walk-in shower with a huge soaking […] tub. Had the room been in better condition I would have given this 5 stars because the view and bathtub were just that amazing! I really wanted to love it but my husband and I left feeling a little dirty. It's a 3 story hotel minutes away from Austin's downtown area. I was here for the Austin marathon and have stayed at other hotels. I had everything I needed and the room was really nice. Maybe too nice because I didn't get a chance to partake in the nice tub and dual headed shower. This hotel reminds me of the boutique hotels in San Francisco. Unique […] charm. The bartender was friendly and i was able to have my pre-race carb meal there too. Free parking. All in all a wonderful experience. Mehr

This hotel was way too modern and strange for me. The room had a window between the bathroom and the bedroom - very strange considering this was not my honeymoon! I was there with a friend. The free breakfast is cereal...if you want more than that - you have to pay for it. In a nutshell I will not be staying at the Caulo Hotel again. We had the best experience at this hotel. When we first checked-in, the door leading into our room seemed as though it was not hung correctly and seemed to rub the hardwood floor in the entrance way. When we called to see if they could do something about this, the owner came to our room and gave us two choices: 1) to allow maintenance to fix the door; […] and 2) to move to another room. We took option number 2. Each day as we left the hotel, they would ask if they could help us with directions and/or places to see in the city. Their restaurant recommendations and easy directions to our destinations were top notch. Our room was spacious with tall ceilings, with exceptional bath facilities (large soaking tub and a double rainfall shower). We would stay here again in a heart-beat. Mehr

loved this 'non chain' hotel! Feels like a small boutique type hotel, and the room was wonderful; walk in shower and huge tub, and a very cozy bed. I have already told my friends about it!

Loved the contemporary feel of the hotel. Very comfortable. Very well maintained. Staff was friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast is very basic though. I will definatly stay here again.

First time using this hotel and very pleased with the feedback from our out-of-town guest. Aided to the sucess of providing our guest a unique visit and "Keep Austin Wierd" experience.

We have stayed here a couple of times. Very romantic. Better not bring the kids the see through showers are definitely PG-13

The Casulo Hotel was nice, but it is not intended for people to share a room unless you are prepared to see silhouettes of your roommate. The wall from the bathroom to the bedroom is a large nice window. It does have a blind, but it is very thin and you can see shadows from the bathroom. My colleague and I had to go by a thick table cloth to staple […] over the window for provide privacy. The breakfast that is mentioned in the description is wrong. There was nothing warm: 3 kinds of cereal, bagels, bread, coffee. Anything else had to be paid for. Mehr

The hotel was great, especially for the price. The only complaints would be that the room had a musty smell the entire time and the sheets on the bed had makeup stains all over the sheet and pillowcases. Once those were swapped out, it was better. Also, the lights in the bathroom shower are on a timer that cannot be adjusted, so if you don't move fast […] enough, some of the lights turnout after a period of time. We were pleasantly surprised by this hotel but I had higher expectations based on the amount that I paid. We were disappointed that the bar/lounge area was not open on Sunday (the only night that we stayed) so we were unable to enjoy this. The Casulo Hotel was a beautiful, uniquely appointed hotel that had placed effort into all the right places. The bed was awesome: great mattress, very comfortable pillows, and nice soft sheets. The room layout was not only very functional, but at the same time different in a pleasant manner. The use of a chaise lounge rather than a standard chair was […] a nice touch. All other amenities were proper and functional. The service was friendly and excellent. The hotel was able to accomodate a very early check-in for me (11:00 AM) with no issues. I do wish I had the opportunity to try food they prepared, but was unable to. Mehr

This is a great hotel. I stayed in one of the Superior Suites and it is a beautiful room. My only disappointment was the temperature in my room. The bedroom area was kept warm by the heater but, if you went to the front area or bathroom it was ice cold. The room didn't have a vent in that area and only a small one in the bathroom. It might have just […] been that room I can't say. Overall, the Casulo Hotel is a great place to stay in Austin. The atmosphere is excellent, location is convenient to get around and the staff is great. Mehr
