Great location but a little scruffy. The hosts were very friendly but the place needs attention. essentially, you get what you pay for.

The manager of the hotel is most helpful. When I booked, I did not realize the hotel was all up a flight a stairs, Plus more to get to the rooms. I was traveling on business and had a lot of baggage. So I ended up in the "orphan " room around the corner. Nice and clean but small. On the other hand, if on a vacation with normal stuff, the upstairs rooms […] appear very nice and a bit larger. Would take my wife here for a nice visit any time. Mehr

Nice location near downtown shops. Comfortable room and staff were helpful in guiding to local spots. Afternoon wine tasting and continental breakfast a plus.

Very romantic place. John at the front desk was amazing . Breakfast in the morning. Wine and cheese and crackers in the evening. I love this 17 room motel. This is a perfect romantic getaway Great location. I will be back

Central location, reasonable cost, comfortable, great staff. What else could you want.

My family and I stayed for one night on our PCH vacation from SF to SD. This was one of four hotels we stayed in and the most charming. Perfectly located with complimentary breakfast and wine tasting. We had a family suite with two rooms off of a quaint little courtyard. I CALLED 5 MINUTES AFTER TALKING WITH THE RES. PERSON TO CANCEL -WAS TOLD IT WOULD HAVE TO BE OK'D BY THE MANAGER WHO WAS NOT THERE--- MY SON IN LAW CALLED ALSO WAS TOLD THE SAME THING THAT THERE SHOULD BE NO PROBLEM BUT WE WOULD HAVE TO CALL THE NEXT AM-- DID SO BUT THE RES. WAS NEVER CANCELED--- JUST KEPT GETTING A NASTY RUN AROUND --

I wish they would spend some money to renovate or upgrade. It feels cheap. Staff were nice and friendly and the location was good.

The absolute worst hotel I have ever stayed in. 1-2 inch gap between threshold and exterior (outside) and our room. Filthy. Dirty Carpet, drapes closed only with a black paper binder clip attached to the drapes. TV did not work, plug in space heaters??!!! We refused to stay, checked into the Hyatt Highlands Hotel. Complimentary wine & breakfast. Easy walking distance to shopping, restaurants & sights. Friendly owner.

We arrived on a Tuesday evening (after 7 PM) and checked in with John. He was informative and courteous, he still offer a glass of wine even though it was past 6 PM. We asked for a few close steak house restaurants and one of his suggestions was Grasings, which was down the block from the hotel. We absolutely loved it, a bit pricey, but well worth it! Unbelievably quaint! The staff were all so welcoming and friendly, and really seemed committed to making sure your trip was tailored to your preferences. Also, who doesn't love free wine tasting?!?

Great room and location and friendly service. The breakfast is not very varied, but apart from that I recommend it.

The place was clean and had a good location. It is starting to show it's age though. The rooms were spacious, but the comforter and shams had a strange odor (it could have even been a weird soap), but I could not sleep with them near my nose and in the end I got cold. The fireplace saved us though. Breakfast had some options, but not as many as nearby […] hotels. It was ok. If I had to stay on a budget in Carmel it would be fine- with different bedding. Mehr

We stayed two night in this older, but nice hotel. The staff was friendly and price included a light breakfast and happy hour wine. Would have liked coffee in the room and the fixtures/furniture were old, but clean. Could walk all over the Carmel village and to the ocean. We'd stay here again.

We had a very nice stay and loved the location. Breakfast and wine tasting were quite lovely.

Extremely nice staff while checking in, great service. Absolutely no complaints about that, but...dated room with old, bedding. Paper thin towels. Just a worn out room, down to the carpet, etc. Great rate through Hotels.com, so can't really complain too much. Overall, if you're just looking for a bed, this place will do, but if you're going to spend […] much more time in the room than just sleeping and getting ready to go out and check out the town, this won't be the place for you. I went online at Hotels.com and found this place. Paid top dollar thinking it would be great. Ad said views, Tempur-pedic mattress with premium bedding, LCD TV, ensuite bathroom, etc. ALL LIES! The place is run down, bedding smelled & looked 15 yrs old (at least), lumpy matress - NOt a Tempur-pedic. I know -- I own one. TV was an old, CRT. Had to call […] maintenance to fix fireplace since it was the only source of heat. Then once it was going, it was so loud it creaked and kept us up all night. Windows didnt have locks, floors squeaked, bathroom was terribly outdated and would not be considered an "ensuite" by any rating system. Hole near floorboard looked like a taped up mouse hole. Kitchen was a joke. Faucet was so loose I was afraid it would break off. Teapot under sink not fit for cooking. Dorm-room type refrigerator. Had to keep weathered shade down since kitchen (and bath) open to parking lot. I felt SO ripped off! Would NEVER stay there again and wouldn't recommend it to anyone. BTW, this is the 1st review I've ever written. Compelled because it was so bad! Mehr

It was tough getting a room for one night in Carmel during President's weekend, but we did find one at the Wayfarer Inn. The location was great; walking distance to downtown shopping, the Hog's Breath for drinks, Casanova for dinner and Katy's for breakfast. It was a good thing we didn't spend too much time in the room. The amenities were sparse, the […] decor a mixed bag of 60's and 70's all jumbled together, and all the fixtures in the bathroom were rusted and chipped. Given a choice to stay here or find another hotel for the same price, I would be moving my business elsewhere. Mehr

Great little place, the wine happy hour(s) weren't even mentioned when I booked. Great little place, great restaurants around, I enjoyed it more than staying closer downtown.

The room location was great, but the bed was horrible. It had no mattress pad cover and the bottom sheet was not fitted, so every time you moved, the sheet bunched up. The quality of the sheets was very poor, so it made for an uncomfortable nights sleep. I would definitely not stay there again and I would not recommend it to anyone.

We had a comfortable and relaxing stay at the Wayfarer Inn last weekend. The couple that manage the Inn are wonderful, professional and very accommodating. I would recommend this place for anyone wanting a nice place, close to everything who are on a budget. Can't get better for what we paid! Room #18 is so private and spacious :-)

Continental breakfast was dismal at best, shower curtains had mold, bed linens smelled. On a happier note, the hotel hosts were helpful and friendly, and the location was just a few blocks walking distance from downtown area which was perfect.

The rooms desperately need renovating. Although the fire placle in our room was nice, the bathroom was very small and the room never felt comfortable. The continental breakfast is pretty bad - don't expect any fresh fruit, yogurt, or fresh coffee. I would not stay here again. Pay less and go to a Motel 6 or something and at least you'll get what you […] expected. This place holds it out to be nice but really is not. Mehr

We stayed here 1 night and had a pretty good experience. The staff is very nice and friendly. The hotel and room itself was fine, nothing glamorous, but totally sufficient for the price we received at Hotels.com. It's an older Inn and it's has some wear and tear, but it served it's purpose. We would return for that same rate.

This hotel is people friendly, located within walking distance of many of Carmel's finest restaurants and very quiet at night.

The Wayfarer Inn is in serious need of a facelift. The carpets are old, as are the bathroom fixtures. There was a metal shelf in my bathroom that was covered with rust.. disgusting! The maids do not know how to make a bed.. the sheets were not tucked in at the foot and I had to remake the bed myself. I would never stay here again and would never recommend […] it to a friend. What a great location, but this is a value stay only. Don't expect luxury. The blankets were threadbare and towels like sandpiper. Very friendly efficient staff and free parking good stuff. If not paying at least half of surrounding inns, you may want to rethink.

The inn is beautiful with its gardens and it encourages a person to stop and relax. We enjoyed the wine tasting in the evening and the ocean view in our room really was an ocean view. If I were to say anything negative it would be the hardness of the mattress, a bit of a pillow top would be nice, but I am only being picky now.

Safe neighborhood.

we got a great room, at a great rate, even though it was on the long weekend..we enjoyed the patio fireplace.

I was very pleased with the stay at the wayfarer inn. its in a great location, 10 min walk to carmel beach and lots of great dining and shopping within minutes! breakfast was yummy its a make you own waffles and they had fruit, toast and cereal for the kids as well as a variety of fruit juice and milk. we stayed in the king suite it had a fireplace […] and a trundle bed for both of our kids. the bottom pulls out. I wouldent say itt had an ocean view like they advertise but its a great place to relax after spending all day at the monterey bay aquarium. The one and only complaint I had was tha our pillows and top comforter was covered in dog/cat hair. It was kinda gross but the washed them once we told them. hope you enjoy your stay if you chose to stay at the wayfrer inn :) Mehr

the photos online made the rooms look much nicer than they actually are. the kitchenette was devoid of coffee, sugar, etc for the coffee maker. the refrigerator needed defrosting. very run down. i was disappointed.
