"Hotel Palazzzo Giovanelli e Gran Canal"
Very nice hotel at convenient and interesting location right on Grand Canal. Sophisticated re-contraction of historical Palazzo and nice and professional interior design. Friendly and really helpful stuff. A quiet room, a good bed and a nice bathroom as well as a good breakfast. Overall an excellent impression.
"Great hotel - not great service"
My disappointment in this hotel is based purely on the standard of service (or lack thereof) from the front desk reception. My husband and I were only staying 1 night, and we arrived early at 11:30 am. We were aware of the 2p.m. check in time, but we wanted to just drop our bags off. One of the 3 people behind the desk greeted me with a grunt, and […] I explained that I had a reservation and asked whether we could check in and drop our bags off. This was met with no smiles or welcoming remarks at all - simply a "what is your name", and "I need your passports". Then I was told "you must come back after 2pm" and when I reminded him of our bags, he simply told me to hand them over. My husband and I were a little shocked - and we decided it was because we were a "younger" couple, and more casual in comparison to the other guests that we had seen and so perhaps they were not impressed by us, nor keen to try to impress us given that we did not look like we had a lot of money. Nevertheless, we just decided to ignore it and thought we may have been too sensitive. This was not the case - when we returned after 2pm, the same man just grunted when he gave us our key and arranged for the bell-hop (who was actually very smiley) to show us to our room. Later, when I went to ask someone at the front desk what time check out was, I was literally told that I had to wait (there were again 4 of them - one was on the phone and the other was helping a couple to find somewhere to go eat and it was taking a long time - the other 2 were just sitting staring at their computer screen, refusing to help me). I literally waited for 15 minutes for one of the 2 who were busy to help me.....absolutely ridiculous given that I just wanted to find out what the check out time was!!!! Don't get me wrong - the hotel was beautiful, the location amazing and the breakfast was delicious and very extensive (especially for european standards). The coffee was incredible. I just think that the hotel could be Mehr
"Lovely hotel but location not wheelchair friendly"
This is a very attractive hotel with a fully accessible room. The room was small but I understand this is normal for Venice. The staff are some of the best we have ever met and couldn't do enough for us. The location is directly on the Grand canal in a quieter area but you can easily walk to the Rialto bridge. Breakfast was plentifull with a good choice. […] Lovely location next to the modern art museum. Unfortunately there was a bridge to the vaparetto and several steps to the nearest restaurant which we didn't realise when we booked. With the help of hotel staff my husband was lifted over the bridge once and up and down steps. Not ideal but we managed. Next time would choose a location with direct access to the vaporetto. Stunning city and pleased we made the effort to visit with the wheelchair. We had a 4 day break prior to taking a cruise. 85 euros by water taxi to the cruise port and the hotel has a direct access taxi stop. We did meet and greet on the way there. Mehr
"Bad Maintenance and Breakfast"
the break fast was the worst BF i've ever had in a any hotel where there is no variety in food or drinks. i spent 2 nights in this hotel, the second night the hotel went out of water until i checked out. however, the staff were friendly and cooperative.
"Serene accomodations on the Gran Canal"
We stayed 2 nights at Giovanni e Gran Canal and had an outstanding experience. The cleanliness of the hotel and friendly service provided by the staff was fabulous and exceeded our expecations. We stayed in a standard room with a view of the side canal - loved it. The bed was very comfortable and we loved being able to escape from the noise and business […] of the Rialto bridge and St mark's square to get some rest at our hotel. The accessibility to San Stae station was also excellent. We loved our breakfast and were very please when we had much to choose from including scrambled eggs and bacon! Loved the entire experience and can't wait to return :) Mehr
"Very clean and high-quality---not comfortable"
Very nice hotel Not located in a great spot Out room was so cramped it was difficult to relax The shower was unbearably tiny
"Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli e Gran Canal"
Very smart hotel. Comfortable, clean, well positioned. Breakfast was fine. Rooms a bit on the small side - but to be expected in Venice. Only real problem was that in our room you could hear much of what was going on next door because the partition wall was pretty thin and not particularly sound proof. Good value for money in February. Not sure what […] the summer prices will be. Mehr
"Hotel Palazzo Giavanelli - underwhelming"
My partner and I booked a romantic Valentine's Day weekend at this hotel in Venice but many things about it were disappointing. First, finding this hotel: It's very hard to find so we spent quite a bit of time walking around looking for it (note to future bookees - when you get off the Water Bus at San Stae, the entrance is over the bridge on your left […] and down the first alleyway on your left). Second, checking in: I had paid extra to upgrade to a Superior room but the room they put us in was smaller than any of even the Standard rooms pictured on the hotel's website. I asked if they had indeed put us in the right room and was told that the only difference between the Standard and Superior rooms is size and that our tiny room (only just a tiny bit larger than a queen size bed and from the diagram on the door, the smallest room on the entire floor) was indeed a Superior. As the view from the window was only of a plant-free courtyard, I would suggest that others avoid paying for an upgrade. It's just not worth it. Second, although the room was nicely decorated, there was an empty condom wrapper on the marbled floor when we got there and despite daily cleanings, it remained there until we checked out 3 days later (and yes, I know I could have thrown it away myself but I didn't want to touch it...). Third, the room: The room was far too hot and there was no way to turn down or off the thermostat as it continually and automatically turned itself back on, always automatically resetting itself to 26 degrees Celsius. Also, the bed was one of the hardest and thus least comfortable hotel room beds I've stayed in. The shower was also a bit tricky. There was no curtain so water went all over the bathroom, which meant you had to wear your shoes in there afterwards so your socks wouldn't get wet (although now that I think about it, wet feet would have definitely kept us cooler in our hot room). The breakfast: No complaints, especially about the terrific coffee. Overall, I didn't Mehr
"overall"
My original room was quite tiny, but my upgraded room was top shelf!
I stayed in one of the least expensive rooms in this hotel - "Room with a dormer window" -- and although it was clean and comfortable those considering this option should know that it has virtually no view to the outside except to the sky, and that only a little. It does take away from the Venice experience not to have a view, and if I had the choice […] to make all over again I'd pay the extra few dollars a night for a better room. These "dormer" rooms are basically in the attic, as well, and you need to climb an extra flight of stairs to access them. The hotel itself is really nice, a restored palazzo, with comfortable public spaces in which to sit and read or have a glass of wine. But know that this isn't a hotel with a lively social scene -- you're likely to be the only one sitting at the bar at any given time. The location is only a few steps away from a vaporetto stop, but only the No. 1 stops there. That's the vaporetto that makes nearly every stop along the Grand Canal, which is convenient unless you want to get somewhere else quickly. The surrounding area doesn't have much in the way of cafes or obvious places to hang out or even to buy a bottle of water -- it feels a bit out of the way, in fact -- but it's right next door to Ca' Pesaro, an excellent art gallery, and only a block or two away from Ca' Mocenigo, another interesting place to visit, especially for its decor. There is an excellent restaurant right across the street from Ca Mocenigo called Osteria Mocenigo that's worth a try, and La Zucca is close by, as well, if you like waiting in line to eat at places listed in guidebooks. If you can't get in, skip the place across the street, which looks like a tempting alternative but is pretty mediocre. All in all, I liked the hotel itself but would have preferred, in retrospect, to be a little closer to the action, especially at night. Not San Marco, necessarily, but someplace with a few more places to go that didn't require getting on a vaporetto or finding m Mehr
"Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli e Gran Canal - Venice"
The hotel is in a lovely location, although took us a while to find it on foot. It was lovely, modern clean and beatifully decorated. We took a Dormer window room, my Partner is tall, Im average, and there could be no standing in the shower/bath by either of us due to sloping ceiling, and the room was very compact. The location was great. Although, […] the coffee at breakfast was not to the usual italian standard, so my italian partner who doesn't eat breakfast but just has coffee, was dissappointed. There was a reasonable selection at breakfast although not a lot of tables, I guess everyone came down for breakfast at the same time. Mehr
"Only stayed one night but was great"
This hotel is very cute. I had to book it last minute but I'm glad I booked this hotel. The room is a bit small but comfortable bed, nice pressure shower and amazing breakfast in the morning. The front desk was always helpful with whatever questions we had. Also if your flying into Venice, take a bus from the airport and then a water bus not a water […] taxi, it is much cheaper and the stop is next to the hotel. Mehr

"Hotel Palazzo Giovanelli e Gran Canal"
This was a great experience all around as I arrived in a water taxi right to the front door, where a bellman greeted me and showed me inside to a very helpful and gorgeous young Venitian man at the front desk. My room was comfy and looked right over to the Museam and was in a quiet neighbourhood away from the crowds. I walked a few minutes down the […] canal to a terrific little pizzaria that the hotel recommended. I extended my stay by half a day, as I was departing on a late night flight, so had more time to see the sights of Venice. When it was time to go, I only had to cart my bag next door where the vaporreto stop was, which was very convenient considering my bag was much larger upon leaving with all my Murano glass, and leather goods. Venice is a romantic city viewed from a Gondola being serenaded, but once you are back ashore it is heaving with tourists. This little hotel is away from all of that, so it was a lovely retreat. Put your feet up, recover and then go back out and walk another 5 miles getting completely lost. That is all part of the adventure. Mehr
"Very Italian - charming and chic"
There was some confusion over the booking and we thought that we would not be able to stay at the Palazzo Giovanelli & Gran Canal. However, they upgraded us to a canal facing room which was clearly reserved for special occasions. The room was amazing and the whole hotel was luxurious. Breakfasts were good and the dinning room was well designed. I go […] to Venice at least once a year and would definiely go back to this hotel. Thank you for making it possible. Mehr
"Wheelchair room"
very accommodating for wheelchair in hotel - steps to nearby restaurant accessible due to helpfulness of hotel personal. Water taxi access makes this a very pleasant place to stay.
"Merita"
Gran bell'hotel,posizione strategica,personale professionale e gentile,colaione abbondante. Consigliatissimo.
Mehr
Mehr
EN LINEAS GENERALES LA ESTANCIA HA ESTADO MUY AGRADABLE... LO ÚNICO A DESTACAR ES LA UBICACIÓN DE LA ENTRADA PRINCIPAL... ESTAMOS DE ACUERDO CON EL RESTO DE LOS COMENTARIOS DEL DESAYUNO UN POCO ESCASO. LO QUE ES EL HOTEL EN SI, ES PRECIOSO REALMENTE UN PALACIO... ACONSEJABLE 100%.
A recommander
"perfect"
