very reasonably priced. Was mid point between activities in SF and on peninsula. Close to major highways, but very quiet.

All things considered, this was a very good hotel. However, given that it is a Hilton, and I have stayed in quite a few Hiltons, this was one of the lowest end Hiltons I have stayed at. The moment I walked in the front door, the staff was yelling at each other (jokingly, but still yelling). Then I went to my non-smoking room, and it might not have been […] a cigarette smell that I smelled, but it was definitely pungent. I asked to move to another room -- the second one didn't have the smell. Then there were several things broken in the room like the shower head was just barely in tact. When I moved it, it fell off. The shower curtain was put on in an awkward way. Overall, I was a bit surprised just by the Hilton name that it carried. Otherwise, it would have been a pretty basic hotel of any other sort. One very impressive amenity was the breakfast -- for $15 they have a full breakfast bar with a waitress and staff with quality food. Mehr

We arrived to check in around six. First we were given a standard room, next to another of our party. They requested two double beds and only got a single king. I had to return to the desk after being given a single king also. I had reserved a 1-bedroom suite. The 'bedroom' is really just an alcove off the main room. The alcove is formed around the […] elevators. So beware, you will hear the elevators going up and down, and you will hear the elevator doors and a strange clang, which I took to be the car locking into place at the floor stop. Coffee in the room isn't good. There was only two sugars, and two creams each day. Coffee is free in the lobby. Other than that, the hotel is clean, staff was pleasant. The hotel is next to a home depot, but several restaurants are within walking distance. Other shopping is close also. I would consider staying here again. Mehr

Being that this is a hotel some would choose for overnight stays when flying in/out of SFO, I thought they would have catered more to that crowd. They're only dining option was an over priced in-house diner. They didn't offer any soft of complimentary continental breakfast, and the bar was REALLY small. Oh well. We didn't stay there for any reason other […] than it was close to an event we were attending. The staff is friendly, the rooms were spacious enough and they were clean/comfortable. Mehr

great hotel except for the pillows which were terrible

Hilton Garden Inn is a very good alternative to the low-end hotels that are convenient and affordable but not much else and high-end hotels that are lovely but more than is needed for tight business budgets. For me, it's unusual to be at a hotel more than two nights (where one can endure almost anything), but the three I spent here were quite good -- […] a welcome respite after work events. I had business from San Mateo to Redwood City, and this was easily accessed from all the venues in these areas. The lobby was open and light (and had smaller areas within it for meeting with people that were useful), the staff extremely courteous and attentive, an on-site restaurant for breakfast and dinner (and lunch M - F), and the room itself not large or lavish but clean and comfortable. If I could book one of these inns in each of the cities I travel to, it would make my time on the road much, much more pleasant. Mehr

The Hilton Garden Inn in San Mateo employs some of the nicest people that can be found within the hospitality industry. I arrived at the hotel property with a reservation conflict that had nothing to do with the hotel. They came to my rescue offering me a complimentary drink and dinner while the situation got rectified by them. I will forever stay at […] this hotel when business or pleasure brings me their way. This is our first time to stay in this hotel, I would say it is very nice and convenient to stay here,close to everything especially to the mall. I recommend this hotel to everyone.

The breakfast was expensive and not good.

Very comfortable hotel, quiet and with a very helpful and gracious staff. I highly recommend this hotel.

This was a very convenient and nice hotel. Staff was very hospitable. Bed was comfy, towels and sheets were in good condition. Room had a sofa, free wireless Internet, microwave and frig. They have a restaurant on site, with a bar. Breakfast is a little costly ($14) unless your hotel rate includes it, but it has a really good selection of choices, including […] cooked to order eggs, waffles, etc. Freshly baked cookies are provided in the afternoon. The Hilton Garden Inn is okay as hotels go. But,the best part that it is within walking distance of shopping centers with good restuarant options and so close to the highway.

Stay away from this side of hotel. Right next to Home Depot and they run their AC all night plus trucks deliver merchandise all night as well and you hear the beep beep of them backing up for hours. Otherwise, other parts of the hotel are fine.

The stay was over all alright except when it came to the bathroom and shower. The toilet constantly ran water all night long and the bath tub would not drain, so taking a shower for 2 people was nearly impossible with out having the tub overflow. Other then that the stay was ok, with a great view and surrounding stores and restuarants.

We were given the accessibility room although our original request was a regular double. There was a clear (but not too strong) smell of smoke even though this is supposed to be non-smoking room.

A convenient location, but a little hard to find. The room was comfortable, spacious and clean. The hot tub was not working well, and some of the common areas did need some cleaning. Overall an OK stay.

The hotel was very sufficient. Located in kind of an odd place, but for the price it wasn't too hard to get to. The front desk girl who checked us in was kind of busy with her male friend and acted like we interrupted her. Other than that, everything else was really great. The room was clean, the bed was comfy, the housekeepers gave us the extra coffee […] and creamer we asked for no problem. The front desk later helped us get a wine opener, directions to a grocery store nearby. So, all in all it was a nice stay. The little gym was even alright. Cookies in the evening were quite tasty, so much for the gym lol! Mehr

Very acceptable for business travel.

the only issue was that the sheets were inside out which can sometimes mean that the maid service didn't actually change the sheets (according to ppl in the industry who I've known) so that was a little unsettling. Otherwise it was all good! Right near the mall area so food etc easy to get, right off the fwy.

Very nice, very clean. Great location in a nice area. Friendly staff. Comfortable rooms. Loved the "evolution" bed. Slept like a log. Highly recommend the breakfast. Would definitely stay there again.

The room was clean, had a coffee pot, microwave and refrigerator. Free internet and a fitness center were a plus. Bathroom was spacious, clean and water pressure was good. Only complaint I had was breakfast was not included for all rates (some people were given coupons; I didn't get them) and was rather pricey at $12.95, though it looked to be a very […] good buffet. Airport shuttle; fabulously courteous hotel and restaurant staff; very nice rooms; convenient location in shopping area. If you layover through SFO, the Hilton Garden Inn - San Mateo is the first place to check for accommodation!

This location is very nice. The staff was efficient yet friendly and welcoming. They made every effort to make our stay enjoyable and trouble free. It is a very well maintained and clean property. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise and well done.

Courteous, friendly staff - even during late hours. No complaints.

For the most part, the Hilton Garden Inn San Mateo was a great room for the money. Very clean, conveniently located. However, our room was very hot and stuffy. We tried to adjust the temperature and we asked maintenance to check the thermostat, but the room never cooled down.
