While in a beautiful setting, there is an obvious disconnect between the employees and management. The managent is working hard to restore the hotel's potential. The employees have a " what are you doing sleeping in our hotel" attitude. They do not perceive they have any role or responsibility for guests comfort.

We stayed here for 3 nights after hauling our yacht for storage during hurricane season. Recent Hands on management control is working hard to ensure guests a good stay. We loved the location, view, pool, and ambiance. We needed to ask for hand towels, wash cloths, hot water maker for coffee, coffee itself , pillows( there were 3 of the littlest pillows […] ever seen there so stiff neck on night #1, pool towels ( make sure you get a pool card at check in or no dice, we didn't receive one so problems) . We were given all these items eventually after we asked so just be patient. They will work with you if you work with them. Mehr

The room had a lot of defects. There was no hot water, the hand washer had a defective valve and only one of them worked, faucet and shower leaked, shower had a broken shampoo dispenser, room only had two power outlets--- one of them had loose connections. We loved our stay because of the room with such a marvelous view on the harbour. What we missed was some information such as: what number to dial to connect with front desk, where we could find the restaurant and its menu. At the front desk the service mostly depended on only one person to handle all check-ins and check-outs, calls and keys. It was downhill from the point of check-in: 1. Had to wait 1 hour to check in since the receptionist at the front desk could not locate my reservation and had to wait on her collegue to arrive for her to utilize her technological skills to find my booking. 2. The room smelled old and dusty. 3. The sheet on the bed was old and smelly. 4. There was a […] pin stuck in the sheet that pricked us while sleeping. 5. Had to go down to front desk each time since the phone in the room was not working 6. Had to ask for coffee to be delivered to room along with kettle, when kettle arrived was not working properly 7. Althought we booked the room for 4 adults staying 1 night when we arrrived there were only 3 towels and no soap in the bathroom. I asked for an ironing board and a coffee maker, when we returning late that night neither were in tlhe room, asked the second time for an ironing board only to receive a broken one with a large hole burnt in the cover. Well, I must say, I was expecting a hotel that was very dated and in need of some repair but with a great view of the harbour and the comings and goings of the ships. This was indeed the case. However, the first room that I was given, after waiting over 2 hours was terrible. It looked like someone had just finished repairs, dust all over the furniture, […] floor etc. There werent even any sheets or pillow cases. After complaining to the management and the fact that I had paid for a ocean view king with balcony, they gave me the best suite in the house! It was amazing. Right on the corner of the renovated part of the building. It was the upgrade from the room I paid for. It had the best view I have every had! The room looked like it was renovated in the last 5-7 years. It had a jaccuzi that had a view over the harbour. PS...sorry for all the bubbles :) If you are going to stay here, go for the upgraded rooms in the smaller building, as it looks like they are going to be a while in the larger one. As for the rest of the hotel services, I didnt use them. There are lots of places nearby for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plus did not use the pool as I went to the beaches. Cabana is nice and free with WIFI. Mambo was a bit shabier and you had to pay to enter. Mehr

The staff at the front desk could use some training, they seem to not know anything about customer service or how to complete a reservation. No reason that a desk should arrive from a long flight and wait to get check in at the front desk for more than 30 min, the average time for most guest, from what I observed. A excellent hotel location, near the shopping and tourist sites, reception downstairs is pretty wide and well maintained, but the hallways are leaking in repair process, the rooms are terrible, old furniture and bad maintained, should be replaced immediately, the bathroom old and deteriorated, the mezzanine is the pool, which is average, nothing special, […] good restaurant with nothing special to note, the Casino is one of the things that draws attention is lousy, the floor is damaged and deteriorated, the furniture is ugly, the urgent need remodeling. Built on the old 1600's fort walls, the pool overlooked ocean with old cannons pointing out to sea. There is also an outdoor bar by pool You were in the center of everything. The best thing about the hotel is it's location. It is within walking distance to shopping and dining and a short drive to various beaches. I stayed on the fifth floor and there was a sign stating that the hotel was under going renovations, but I never saw any work being performed. the room was ok, but breakfast meal did not have very much creativity and 20US$ for a simple breakfast is very expensive compared to the amount of choice. every day exactly the same dishes? even in south america, suriname where i live, they change the morning dishes in the hotels. concentrate orange juice bleeh. bread wasn't always as fresh as it should […] be. same for the melon. i must admit i had a fine taster with me and she did not liked much. one type of tea? i think there should be a litte more creativity. after all you stay on a carribean island. the ham and cheese was good. also the croissants and jam. brown eggs were ok too. bacon and sausages were also ok, but it could have much better taste. english breakfast every day is not attractive. the surroundings were perfect. nice view at the sea and harbour. and also a very nice spot to sit in teh morning and evening. i think the best spot to find in Punda! But little things have to improve in the hotel. you can see it's an older hotel. and for animal lovers one thing wasn't nice to see: you cannot put 1 parrot in a cage all day long and give only soft things to eat like mellon. these kind of birds like nuts and hard shell to crack. a toucan like soft food. a parrot also some hard food. the bird was frustrated. that can be improved. make a bigger voliere with more birds and some natural trees and leaves. and check their daily diet. that would be much better. I regret having to write this negative review. This Hotel was formally a grand Hotel that is or should once again become the Icon for the city Willemstad, Curaçao. In its glory days it was an Intercontinental Hotel and had all the elegance and grandeur the chain represents. I am saddened to see it in such a state. It is in a desperate need of a face […] lift and beter management. The staff was pleasant and accomodating inspite working with such a difficult product. My suggestion to the front desk staff, they should be better knowlegible of the room's location and condition.Part of their training shoud familiarizing themselfs with the rooms and location. In spite of this, I would recommend the Hotel with a caveat! The location is great, walking distance into town. I hope they will return the Hotel to its former grandeur. Mehr

An old hotel set in a beutifull location next to the water and close to downtown and waterfront reestaurants. Great value for the price. Remember this is Curacao and not a 5 star hotel in the USA. This is a nice hotel with easy access to the center of Curacao. We have stayed there several times and will continue to come back. The staff is friendly, some more than others. The food is above average. The pool is great.

The hole hotel seems to be waterdamages, I stayed in two different rooms in two different blocks of the hotel and both suffered from waterdamages. No hot water for my last 3 days it was broken in all the hotel rooms. The pool was ok but even if you called the reception they could not get any staff to service you at the pool bar. Avoid this hotel.

I was not satisfied with this hotel. It is gorgeous on the outside, but the inside needs work. Was in a great locations. Smoking was allowed in the hallways, and by hotel rooms. Refrigerator stopped working and spoiled my food. There was a cockroach on the shower drape while I was taking a shower. The floors were all wet due to poor ventilation system. […] Very dirty. Returned to the hotel first evening to find the key had fallen off the cracked room key fob. Reception staff then pointed out that they have an old-fashioned 'key-drop' box. Had to wait 15 mins for staff to bother to let me into my room, like it was some sort of punishment. Next morning I find a pro-forma invoice for a "miscellaneous charge" of US$50, […] pushed under the door. Reception confirmed this was for the key, but the Manager evaded me for 3 days until checkout, so lost a couple of hundred dollars of F&B business but still charged $25 for the key. Mehr

The Plaza is the kind of place you go to for the penthouse view or for a one night lay-over but no more. The facility is old, they hand out metal keys with big keychains. Everything was clean but dingy and not very nice. They were renovating some floors though, am sure the result will be nice. We don't stay there again though.

Nice location, right in town, but the $30 and $40 taxi rides from and to the airport were a bit much. It's connected to the water with a block wall with decorative cannons for a cool fortified feel but its not located near a beach. I found the Plaza uncomfortable and inconvenient and the staff horribly impolite and not at all accommodating. When I checked in I was the only one there. Still the girl acted hurriedly and gave me the first room that she saw on the computer. The room smelled of smoke but I had requested a non-smoking room. I went down with several complaints. At that time a more friendly youngman was working. He found a satisfactory room for me. It had an awesome ocean view. […] The hotel is very old and requires plenty of renovation. They are working on that at a slow pace. The housekeepers don't know that the room temperature set by the guest should not be changed until he checks out. I chose this hotel to save money for doing other things. the hotel has an excellent location and our view from room 318 was great, over the swimming pool and sea. The hotel lobby looks nice and exotic (with a few mosquitoes). The bed was large and comfortable. That's all the positive i can say. On the negative side: our room was worn terribly, things falling off, the door key/lock is a joke (almost falling […] out of the door), things are growing in the bathroom, the fake ceiling elements are damaged and falling out, the window is not possible to open and very very dirty, etc etc. And the staff downstairs is very busy, usually there was only one person at the desk so ..trankilo, trankilo. The whole thing is just very outdated and worn. Could be made into an excellent 4-star place with some investment... but at this moment it's like a cheap roadside motel. Mehr

Before making my reservation I read bad reviews about The Plaza Hotel and I didn't believe it was that bad. My Mistake !!!. Uncomfortable beds and old pillows, Poor Maintenance. No hot water in shower., Old and very small TV with poor reception. Hope you don't make the same mistake I did.

We reserved a non-smoking room and were given a smoking room. We asked to switch and were told there was only 1 nonsmoking floor (which would be around 5-10% of their total rooms). Very dirty and reaked of smoke - Avoid at all costs.
