I was looking for a place to crash while I was moving that needed to be close to my house. This place fit the bill. It was no better than the rate would imply. The restaurant closed earlier than the posted hours (and that was 9pm). Loose carpet in the doorway was ignored by staff and a serious trip hazard. This hotel was very ill-maintained, terrible stained carpets in the halls and severely damaged walls. Upon entering our room the first thing we smelled was cigarette smoke. This, after having to pay a $100 deposit to ensure that we did not smoke in our room then were advised upon checking out that we had to wait three business days for a refund of our […] $100 or they could only return $99.99. The linens were old and thin and the bed uncomfortable. The only redeeming quality of the room was the cleanliness of the bathroom. Mehr

considering the rate, it was as expected... not much to complain about... great place to stay at economical price

Great deal for the price.

This hotel does not proudly reflect the Howard Johnson brand. The room was in unacceptable condition and it smelled. There was mould in the bathroom and the sheets were as hard as rock. The lock leading to the outside parking lot from our room was not locked when we arrived --- thus we did not feel safe and there was a lot of loud activity in the parking […] lot the entire night. Additionally, during the late night we were awakened on several occasions by the footsteps of the guest in the room above --- seemed like the ceiling was going to cave in. We should have known it would not be an ideal stay when we pulled up and a bar that we would not go to because of its name and what it stands for was attached. The one good thing --- the front desk clerk was very nice and helpful. Mehr

After staying 3 nights, we were quite satisfied, the bed was comfortable, and the room clean . I was concerned after reading reviews of noise but it was quiet and the continential breakfast was quite good.The price was our main point upon booking but we were very pleased with the stay Thanks for a great break

Hotel was close to where we were going. Breakfast was as expected, waffles - muffins - cereals. That was the good part. The lobby is also the main entrance to a comedy club, and the hotel itself is in a plaza that also hosts the local chicken wings eatery famous for its wait staff attire. Past the lobby, it becomes evident that nothing has been seriously […] refreshed since the beginning of the industrial revolution. There is evidence of multiple coats of paint applied by unskilled painters. The carpet was old. The wallpaper was sagging or stretched. Waited a while for the hot water to arrive, but it eventually arrived. All that's the bad, but not the worst part. There was black mold in the bathroom, on the ceiling and around the fixtures. The external door looked like it had been forced open many times, and repaired by the same guys who did the paint job. There was huge gaps between the door and the frame, making you happy we are having a winter with no snow. This is a disgusting property, and the chain owner should be ashamed to have its banner hanging in front. The rate looked affordable when we booked, it was obviously a rip-off given the poor state of this place. Mehr

it seemed more of a dive and the price was high for the quality of the room. It definitely was conveniently located but we won't be staying there again.

This hotel did not even rate 2 stars.Every door to the rooms had crowbar marks on them as if someone tried to break into every room.The room above us sounded like it was being used as a prostitutes head quarters. My wife and I had booked a two nites stay but left early and did not stay the second nite even though it was paid for. When we booked this hotel we were given the option of upgrading to a suite with one queen. When we arrived at the hotel they didn't even have this type of room available. Fortunately we were not expected to pay more for this upgrade that didn't happen. The hotel is dated and in need of a renovation. Lobby reeked of decades worth of spilled beer from Yuk Yuk's nightclub. Paper thin walls - listened to our neighbors crying for first half of the night - then at 3 am they must have made up - lots of moaning and spanking - that even my ipod couldn't drown out. Then they started smoking! There was a connecting door between our rooms and the reek wafted […] through. Night desk clerk said they'd be charged $100 for smoking - small consolation for the worst hotel stay of our lives. also discovered that the Hotels.com price was actually 15 bucks higher than what the hotel itself would have charged - won't be using this service again. The best thing for this hotel would be demolition. It is an old wood frame building. The carpets are worn out. It stinks. My colleague had bed bugs in his room. The walls are thin so noise travels from the hallways and between rooms and floors.

Upon arrival, the staff was very friendly and efficient even though the one young lady was in training. The hotel itself is clean, however very run down. The beds were not overly comfortable. The worst part about our stay was that we got virtually no sleep due to the "partiers" on both sides of us. We got a really cheap rate on this hotel. It did the trick. However the lighting was low, the bed wasn't the most comfortable and parts of the room needed some maintenance. The continental breakfast was good, especially if you like waffles. The internet was very fast and consistent.

If you are looking for something simple and cheap this hotel will do. It is not overly modern, and the beds could do with a replacing.

It was a 2-star and cheap. Can't expect much more then a place to sleep.

Overall, it was an OK hotel to say for 2 nights. The room was clean. I did request a non-smoking room but it was evident from the smell that it was NOT smoke free. The hotel staff were pleasant.

This hotel is like a good hotel from back in the 70's. We stayed in an updated room and it still had linens that looked 30 years old. The safe is not digital its old and if you want to use it, they charge you to use it. Which most hotels do not charge you to keep your valuables safe from theft. It's in a good location to access the highways. It's not […] nice but it's not a complete hole in the wall. They do have a cleaning crew that does good work. However; kind of creepy someone placed a bible in front of my door and when I questioned the odd activity they told me that only the mysterious manager that is never available can check the surveilance tapes. They never did resolve the inappropriate activity and it caused myself and my partner to feel unsafe. If you have children, pay the extra money to stay somewhere else. If your a strong adult, you should be ok. Mehr

Cap under outside door, needs updating or renos badly. Cleaning staff was helpful- Ola. But clean rooms and comfy beds. For that price you can't expect more in Hamilton.

The hotel was convenient to get to where we had to be however, it is very, very old and gives the effect of run down. You get what you pay for and although our room was pretty clean I would not stay here again nor would I recommend this hotel.

The controls for the air conditioning were broken. Wallpaper was peeling in the bathroom. It was just OK for a 1 night stay, but I am glad we did not pay full price for the room. It was a place to lay my head and have a shower. Continental breakfast was great and we were not rushed to eat and get out which I really liked.

This Motel was over priced and very grungy around the outside of the building. The balconies were unfinished plywood and the railings were loose. I expected alot more for the price I had to pay.

A great spot, accessible from the highway. Rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable, decor is dated but acceptable. Continental breakfast is top notch. Great waffles!

Upon arriving, I was taken back by the small dark dreary room we were given. One small corner window gave little light. I immediately exchanged rooms for one somewhat larger and brighter. The comforter/bed spread was all matted and I was uncomfortable getting under the covers for bed. We couldn't open the drapes to let in the light because just outside […] our window the smoking area seemed to be located and there were always a number of people loitering there. Coming out of our room we ran into a half dozen empty beer bottles in a corner on the floor. We definately won't back. It was way overpriced. Mehr

Nice hotel but the service was horrible. Charged us huge room deposit. Would not refund until room was checked and then we had to pay a penny to get the refund. Do not disturb sign was ignored and housekeeping kept knocking at the door. Request was made at the desk as well to keep housekeeping away that was ignored too.

Please make sure to avoid the Howard Johnson at all costs. This place was a dump beyond belief. After we checked in they proceeded to tell us there was no hot water for the rest of the day. We moved to different location immediately. There was water damage in every room and the lobby, the rooms were not ready when we checked in. The whole building had […] an odor to it. The hotel room was very dirty. I could not even stay in this hotel. Went to the front desk to infom them that room was dirty andf i was not staying there. We had been there all of 10 minutes. Front desk said they needed to go check the room. When she returned stated that we used the bathroom and the beds were used. I told her that we pulled the sheets […] down to check the condition of the beds. Stains every where. She informed me that she could not give me my money back because we used the bathroom. I alway thought our government protected us from even heath conditions??? This place should be forced to close. When I went back to desk to see if I could get out of my contract, she told me the place is 40 years old. The beds, the rooms, have NOT been changed in 40 years. Upon entering the room we noticed damage to the front door, entered the room and we entered a room that would not be acceptable to anyone. There was a hole in the front door, someone placed a cork into the hole and secured it with a screw, you could still see outside, when the door was closed you can see dayl;ight through 75% of the door, the front […] desk gave me a roll of tape and a flyer to cover up the hole in the door. The deadbolt could not be used as there was no matching hole in the door frame, the secure door latch to prevent the door from opening was split in half and hanging, no security at all. The floor had 2 soft spots if you stepped on them you would sink about an inch and the floor would also squeek. There were spots on the ceiling and the room was in desparate need of paint preferably the same colour and painted with a good brush or roller. The bathroom was horrible the towel rack on the door was loose and spun around the towels and face clothes had holes in them. Thewall inside the tub area was caving in. WE HAD NO CHOICE TO STAY HERE AS THEIR WERE NO ROOMS IN THE CITY, THE MANAGER ASKED US TO LEAVE, WE WROTE TO HOWARD JOHNSON CORPORATE AND HAD A CORPORATE WEAK RESPONSE. WE WOULD NOT STAY IN A HOJO AGAIN AFTER CORPOATE RESPONSE Mehr

The room was very dark and washroom did not have a garbage can inside which was a bit inconvenient. Location was right off the highway which was very convenient. Room was not 100% cleaned upon arrival, one of the shampoo bottles were used and there was food left on the floor (cracker).
