Hotel Schwanstein - Schwangau

Für eine Nacht völlig ok. Gute Lage; das Zimmer war allerdings etwas abgewohnt und die Matrazen unbequem. Ärgerlich: WLAN (laut Beschreibung kostenlos) nach Auskunft der Rezeption bereits seit etwa einer Woche funktionsunfähig.

Wir bekamen bei Ankunft kurz vor 22 Uhr noch etwas zu essen, auch wenn erst der Chef die Bedienung dazu auffordern musste. Die Betten waren schlicht und einfach Hängematten. Die gesamte Einrichtung ist überaltert (Duschvorhänge!). Bei der insgesamt super Lage eigentlich traurig.

Der Checkin verlief sehr effizient, wir wurden freundlich empfangen. Das Essen im Hotel war sehr reichhaltig und gut, wir haben uns deshalb entschlossen noch eine Nacht anzuhängen. Schloss Neuschwanenstein liegt nur ca. 5 Autominuten vom Hotel entfernt. Ebenfalls zu empfehlen ist das Städtchen Füssen.

ordentlich, sehr freundlich, für Hotelgäste im Restaurant kein Platz reserviert, Zimmer winzig und im Verhältnis qm / Preis zu teuer, da andere Hotels am Ort günstiger anbieten. Für eine Nacht geht es jedoch

Wir haben uns enschieden im hotel restaurant zu nacht essen, da es sehr nett aussehet. Aber der Service ist wirklich schlecht, eine unverstehbar Stunde warte zeit. Kellnerin ungluablicherweise gestresst ohne dass al zu viele Leute da waren, alle tische reserviert ohne dass jemand gekommen ist. Sehr wahrscheindlich eine taktik um weing leute zu haben. […] Essen nur genügend, gar nicht speziell. Diesen restaurant ist gut nur für eine Weizbier zu tranken am nachmittag....:-( Mehr

Chef sehr dahinter... super gutes Essen! Freundlich, zuvorkommend und absolut weiter zu empfehlen. Auch Parkplatz für das Auto war vorhanden. Schöner Balkon auf dem auch geraucht werden kann. Bequem, freundlich, sauber...spitze!

Gutes 3* Hotel in unmittelbarer Nähe der Schlösser, Preis/Leistung stimmt. Freundliches Personal und saubere Zimmer.

We had a wonderful 2 nightstay. We had a balcony facing the Niewschwanstein castle and just had an awesome view. The staff was very friendly and the complimentary breakfast was very nice as was the restaurant there. The complimentary internet did not work at all for us. The rooms were clean and we were very happy with our stay.

This place was perfect for us. Just off the main road as we entered Fusin where the King's castles were. I woke looked out the window and their the Alps were with Neuschwanstein right in my view. We only stayed here one night but the staff was very friendly and pointed us in the right way to make the most of every minute.

Would not go back. Waited for 30+ minutes for some one to show up to check us in and this was at 4 PM. Rude.

Laid back staff who are friendly and helpful. About 12 euro is what it cost me to get to castles via taxi. Cute little town. Internet in room was in and out but if i moved closer to door it was better. Breakfast was the typical but good.

When we arrived, around 5 PM, there was no one in the office. We searched the property to find someone and found an employee in the restaurant. She tried to locate the manager and receptionist for over 30 minutes. When they both finally showed up there was no apology for the inconvenience. We had problems with rental car and arrived at 9:30 at night. I had called earlier and explained our situation so they were expecting us. They reopened the restuarant and we had a great meal before retiring. The staff were very nice and the location was perfect for the nearby castles. The only problem was the sofa bed for the kids. This was a super bad experience for us. We were looking for a hotel near Garmisch-Partenkirchen. This hotel came up and said it was 16 miles away from city center of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. I booked it because of this and the fact that it had free parking, free wifi, and free breakfast. Well, when we got to Garmisch and put in the hotel's address to […] our GPS, it is in fact 56 kilometers from Garmisch. That's 35 miles!! Of course, you must drive around the mountain ranges to get there, so it took 1 hour. So instead of being 16 miles away, we were twice as far, and an hour drive. We tried to call and cancel when we found this out and they weren't bugging and said we couldn't cancel. So, we drove the hour. When we got there, what a disappointment. Smoky entrance, drab dated room, and GREAT! Wifi was broken. So we had no internet. Now that we were an hour away, we had to leave SUPER early to get to our morning appointment so we didn't even get our free breakfast. We asked if there was anything we could take with us, like muffins or bagels, and the person said "no. breakfast is at 8." Good for nothing. The hotel is a great location for Neuschwanstein castle. But, not Garmisch. No Wifi, no breakfast, smoky dated hotel, and an hour from our destination. Hotels.com grossly mis-calculated this distance. DO NOT stay here if you are headed to the Garmisch area. So sad that we had to experience this. If Hotels.com would have had the correct information, we never would have chosen it. Mehr

Schwanstein is an older rather basic hotel, not a 3 star. The room we had was small, but had a nice view. it was clean and would have gotten a better review if it weren't for the cigarette smoke. The owners smoke in their office on the bottom floor. The smoke smell travels upstairs into the halls. It was too smokey for us.

We had two rooms for the evening. Was very close to local Castles and smaller towns. A beer garden was just up the street with excellent beer and food. The staff was very helpful and friendly. They spoke English well and also provided us discounts to touring the local castles. Breakfast was excellent and there was parking available at no additional […] charge. There is a small per person local tax which was not mentioned. Glassware and products sold were very reasonably priced. The rooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms had ben updated. The bag of cookies on the pillow was a very nice and unexpected touch. I would recommend this hotel for the service, comfort and reasonable price. We were very pleased overall. Mehr

It was a bad impression from the start when we were met at the reception by a guy smoking and did not seem the friendliest. Rooms are basic but enough for a one night stay. Breakfast was ok.

Bruno made us very comfortable at this hotel. It was within walking distance to Neuschwanstein Castle. The hotel restaurant serves great food and beer. The views are fantastic, and the hotel staff go above and beyond to make your stay in Schwangau warm and welcoming.

Very cozy and comfy for what you pay, though the location is a bit out of the way (30 minute walk from theFüssen fernzug or a five minute cab ride). Only complaint is that the place reeks of cigarrette smoke everywhere - feels that it was seeping through the floorboards!

Room was ok. What you would expect from a 3 star hotel. Clean room with a double size bed and shower/toilet. The bed was small and hard as a rock. There was a 20" tube tv in the room with about 20 channels. Only around 2 were in english. Location was awesome. From our window we looked accross a field to Neushwanstein Castle. It was close to a supermarket […] and gas station. It was only a 5 minute drive to the parking lot for the castle. The included breakfest was awesome. Cheese, meats, bacon, cereal, toast with jam etc. Lots of free parking at the side and back of hotel. No WiFi Mehr

Great location and view of the castle. This was very easy to find, parking on site, and very friendly staff. We enjoyed free breakfast that provided plenty of variety. We also had dinner at the restaurant one night and it was packed. Great outdoor seating and overall ambiance. The only downside was no elevator/lift.

Quaint hotel within view of the castles. Plenty of walking areas and shopping nearby. Plentiful breakfast food and reasonable dinner menus. Staff provided quality service and quickly corrected minor deficiencies. Would use this hotel again.

Although it rained all night and snowed in the adjacent mountains, the heat was not working in the room. The covers on the bed were inadequate, especially given the lack of heat in the room. We felt as if we were being stared at and watched the whole time we were there, making it a most uncomfortable and inhospitable environment. Overall the hotel was not a bad value for the money. The one disappointment we had was with the definition of a family room. We had two adults and two children (ages 5 and 3). Our room had three single beds. Although we are accustomed to traveling in Europe and realize single beds are common, we expected to have four to accommodate all four of us. Not the fanciest hotel in Schwangau, but very pleasant and comfortable and among the less expensive we saw. The only real complaint was that to get hot water for the shower we had to let it run for at least five minutes--both wasteful and a little annoying. But otherwise, it was just fine.

I am not very happy with the behavior of the hotel owner/manager. He was arrogant during the initial interactions. Even though he tried to demonstrate friendly attitude later on, somehow we didn't like the hotel atmosphere. The room, location were all ok. We were on a roadtrip in Europe, and one of the stops were the Neuschwanstein castle. This hotel was booked more or less randomly the evening before through hotels.com. It was a very pleasant surprise! Nice, basic rooms, and extremely good food. The owners/staff were very nice and entertaining. I would definately stay there again if I pass by.

Very helpful staff, good food in restaurant, grocery store and post office a short walk away. Also close to several other restaurants. Beautiful surroundings, delightful area in which to take evening strolls. The best thing, though, is the view of the mountains and the castle from your room's balcony. Only a few rooms have that view, so definitely try […] to get one of them when you reserve! One tip about Neuschwanstein: Get to the castle ticket office the instant it opens (8 a.m.) on the morning of your visit. That way, you get your choice of tour times. If you wait until 10 or 11 a.m., you probably won't get a tour until late afternoon, because you'll be battling the tour groups. We booked this hotel because of its location to the Neuschwanstein castle. The scenery is beautiful and the hotel is in a good location. We drove from Rome, Italy to get to this hotel. We booked the hotel and paid for it via credit card several weeks before our planned stay. We drove 15 hours and arrived at the hotel around 10 pm, very tired and wanting […] to go to bed. As we looked for a parking space near the hotel (no parking is identified by signs), a disheveled man with a beard and long hair walked in front of our van as we were pulling out of the rear parking lot. He walked straight at us, not making any gestures and then walked to the side of the van and looked away. (A little strange!) When I finally parked across the street and went in to registration, I was met by a woman whose first words were, "You're late." I asked what she meant and she replied that the registration desk closes at 10 pm and she was getting ready to leave. She was clearly irritated that we were there at 10 pm so I took out my paperwork and showed her that there was no indication that the desk closed by a certain time, just the check-in and check-out times. About that time, the long-haired guy comes in and I learn that he is the manager and was trying to wave me down. (Usually done with hands and direct eye-contact). He was irritated and I sensed nothing but attitude from the both of them. This was not what I wanted to experience on my dream family vacation to a nice, remote Bavarian village in friendly southern Germany. I was expecting a friendly smile and welcoming atmosphere. I didnt get that. 1. If you have designated desk hours, clearly indicate that online so that travel plans can be adjusted accordingly. 2. Remember that you are in a vacation spot where many travelers hope to vacation and relax and have great experiences...after long days of traveling. 3. Loved this place - rooms are very tasteful, although no air con in a place that does get very hot in summer. Location couldn't be better: was able to eat dinner in the hotel beer garden with Neuschwanstein in the background. The couple that run the place are professional and very friendly. Very nice hotel with a friendly and dedicated staff. Hotel gave us discount coupon for the castle tours and reminded us to use it. Gave great directions to the tour too. Rooms were nice, comfortable and quiet. Very nice breakfast included. Nice bier Garten for evening drinks while looking up at the castle. I was pleased with my choice of hotels. We chose that hotel because hotels in Fussen were full or too expensive. The hotel was in the mountains with a nice view from our room. It was close the the castles.The room was adequate, breakfast was included and very good. The reception was mixed,one woman was curt ,a guy the next moring was fine. The hotel was within 2 km walking distance to the Neuschwanstein castle and the lake. The staff was very friendly and offered a discount ticket to the castles. The breakfast was limited and the restaurant was expensive for the area, but there were a number of good restaurants in the town.

We stayed at this hotel specifically to go to Neuschwanstein Castle. The hotel is about a 9 euro 10 minute cab ride from the Fussen train station (there is a bus available too that is probably cheaper). The hotel is very quaint almost B&B style. The furnishings are somewhat dated but it kind of added to the feeling of being in a tiny German village. […] The hotel was very clean, the staff was for the most part very friendly. The restaurant attached is very good with fair prices and traditional Bavarian food. The hotel itself is about a 25-40 minute leisurely stroll to the castle ticket booth/shops/etc. We had a view of the castle from our hotel room though somewhat obstructed. The hotel is situated in a very small village so there is not a whole lot going on so it provided a restful stay for us by default. Mehr

We had a great time and found the hotel to be a perfect place for us. When we were checking in, they gave us a coupon to use at the castle, which helped us save money on our tours (thank you!). The restaurant was lovely, food delicious with breakfast included. There was an accordion player at dinner that added to the atmosphere.

My family stayed at the Hotel Schwangau during Christmas and New Years. It is extremely close to several castles and is in a very beautiful part of Bavaria. In addition to the castles, the hotel is close to skiing and snowboarding, shopping and picturesque Bavarian towns. It was this location, along with the positive reviews, that drew us to the hotel. […] We were prepared to use the hotel as our base camp while we explored this little corner of Germany. What we did not expect was for the hotel itself to be one of the highlights of our trip. The entire staff treats you as a valued guest at all times. Service was absolutely top-notch. Everyone was very patient with my meager German language skills and most of the staff was quite functional in English. The food in the restaurant was very good and authentically German (as far as this non-German reviewer knows). Each night in the restaurant they had an accordion player who was very friendly and entertaining. On New Year’s Eve, they served a multi-course meal, provided two accordion players who managed to get the entire room involved in the festivities and they shot off their own fireworks at midnight. I would stay there again in a heartbeat and wholeheartedly recommend this establishment to others. The only negative was that there was no Internet available. For that, you had to drive to the next town for an Internet Café or a McDonalds. While this does encourage you to leave work behind and truly enjoy your vacation, it is awfully nice to look up travel information such as operating hours and prices before leaving in the morning. However, if there were another hotel nearby that offered Internet service, I would still choose Hotel Schwangau hands-down. Mehr

Hotel located in the valley across from Neuschwanstein Castle. Nice restaurant with great food and atmosphere and it included breakfast. Only a couple minute drive to the castle. No internet available or toiletries in the bathroom. Hair dryers were available at the front desk for check out.

The location is perfect for visiting the castles. The staff is friendly and helpful. We got a coupon that gave us a discount at the castle entrance. The hotel advertises rooms with balcony and castle view. It is not true, most of the rooms do not have balcony [we did not have one]. The room was clean, but the bed was not comfortable. Window did not […] have double curtain and the shutters could not be closed; so there was light in the room. The breakfast spread was not extensive, but it was sumptuous. The food at their restaurant was reasonable priced and was good. Bottom line: Nothing great, but definitely not bad. Mehr

If your looking for a great location with friendly staff, authentic decor and the biggest schnitzel in Germany- this is the place. Just minutes from the castles, yet not too touristy, the Hotel Schwanstein offers very good accommodations at reasonable prices. And I'm not kidding about the schnitzel, the XL Wiener Schnitzel is just that - too big to […] fit on a plate. Mehr

This hotel is 2km from the castles, which is fine if you are driving but difficult if you are taking public transportaion. The bus only goes by once and hour and it takes you to Fussen to change buses and then go to the castles so the short distance (6km) trip takes almost an hour. Also the buses stop running at aorung 5pm. No internet in the whole […] area except for one place in Fussen. I am NOT recommending this place only because I way overpaid for it because of the previous good reviews. It is 2.5 star hotel so expect that... nothing great. The food at the restaurant is good and the beer is terrible. Also that restaurant is the only place open pass 7pm in the whole town... Don't stay here unless you have a car and you pay for a 2.5 hotel. Mehr
