Candlewood Suites Downtown - San Antonio

I looked @ other hotels that had kitchens, & this was probably the best value. I liked that they had a courtesy laundry room, pool, & weight room. Friendly staff. I usually stay @ Candlewood properties when I need a room.

Hotel does not have King beds no matter what Hotels.com advertises. But, the double queen rooms are very nice. Pet friendly hotel (requires $75.00 non refundable fee) and is extremely well maintained, extremely clean.

This is a new, clean, comfy place. The bed as very comfy. The service was very good. The price was excellent for downtown SA. It's true that it's not in walking distance to the best sights (everything is 1 to 1-1/2 miles away), but at that distance cabs are cheap and easier than finding parking near the riverwalk. The area is older, transitional, and […] industrial, but it did not seem unsafe. Common sense will take care of that, just be aware and careful, as always. I ran from the hotel to the Alamo, then south along the riverwalk to the old Lone Star brewery, and back to the hotel on surface streets. I never felt unsafe and it was a great, scenic run (a good 5 miles, as well). I will stay here in the future, it's new and clean, close to downtown, and the running was great. FYI, the riverwalk now goes from downtown to somewhere near the old missions a few miles south of downtown. The have done a great job building walking/running/bike paths. Don't walk from here to Riverwalk or El Mercado but if you want a reasonably priced nice room with the best front desk service I have ever experienced, it is the place to stay. We were there for Alamo Bowl and they had early check-in laid out before we got there and were helpful in a myriad of ways. We stayed one night to celebrate NY on the Riverwalk. The staff was super nice checking in and the room was extremely clean! We will definitely stay at the Candlewood again. We were extremely impressed with our overall experience. The only negative, if you want to call it that, is that the water pressure in the shower was not very good. The hotel was simple, but clean and the staff was friendly. The shower head broke during our stay, but it was fixed the afternoon we turned it into to the staff. It is close to downtown and Riverwalk, but the neighborhood is too sketchy to walk through, so be prepared to drive there and pay to park. This hotel is new and the suites have small kitchens with microwave, stove top, dishwasher & toaster. Kitchen cabinets and drawers which are nicely stocked. The hotel is extremely well maintained and the staff quite friendly. I enjoyed my stay here. We were very pleased with this hotel, the price was right and so was the location. We will stay at this place again.

Nice hotel. Well kept. looked like it was a new hotel.

This was the first candlewood I stayed at and I will look for candlewoods from now on when I'm out and about.

Scary the surrounding

Some of the staff were very helpful, others not so much. It in an okay location to walk to many area attractions. But you have to walk past a few run down lots and buildings along the way, one being directly in front of the hotel. They say they're pet friendly, sort of...the are for your dog to walk is just a tiny strip of grass between the curb and […] a wooden fence. This is a completely smoke free hotel, but no one told the microwave in our room. We had some left overs we were going to heat up but ended up using the communal microwave in the lobby. Ours smelled burned up as soon as you opened the door (it almost smelled like somebody nuked a full ashtray or something). We informed them, a maintenance man showed up, said he needed to replace the microwave but never did. Mehr

My wife and I were pleased with our stay at this hotel. The front desk was very helpful and courteous. The suite was very nice. I would stay there again.

As others have mentioned this is a great value. The room was very clean as was the rest of the hotel. The price was great for this hotel. This is considered an extended stay hotel so there were amenities in the room for that purpose. A full size fridge, two burner stove, microwave, dishes, dish washer. etc. It was perfect for our little get away. It […] is close to downtown SA and made our trip a delight. Mehr

it was good and the staff was nice and helpful

The hotel is located very close to the highway, however it was completely quiet in our ground level room. Hotel was very clean. The suite included 2 beds, nice flat screen TV w/ satellite, 2 burner flat top stove, full fridge, microwave. The only issue we had was the DVD player was missing cables so we could not use it. Staff very helpful. However, for a new hotel, air conditioner and computer printer did not work. Location is about 1.2 miles from the Alamo.

Customer Service at Candlewood was outstanding and with a smile. The room was very nice with 2 Q beds,great recliner, small kitchen and x-large bathroom. I loved the desk/kitchen table/counter top - very well designed for the space. Would stay here again! Now the downside...coffee pot was two cupper, stayed on 1st floor so it was kinda noisy and had […] curtains that didn't totally close - don't know what was up with that? Overall it was a great place to stay and just a few blocks from the Market where we went to eat at LaMargarita - yum!! The price was great as well. Mehr

Very clean, friendly folks and not a lot of extras, but everything that we needed. Kind of hard to get to without a gps.

The attention at check-in very fast. The room clean and comfortable, A/C working well. I think the hotel opened recently, so the furniture and other facilities are in well condition. Although is very close to the tourist attractions in downtown, the streets around the hotel are very lonely all times and very dark at night, so walking around is not  […] recommended Mehr

This hotel is a good value compared to other locations close by. The area is a little out of the way from all the downtown attractions. Definitely not in walking distance. The property itself is immaculate and that goes for the rooms also which are very spacious.I owuld stay here again.

Everything was great still very new. Comfortable and convinient. Right off the fwy close to Square Marked and Riverwalk. :)
