Western Village Inn & Casino at the Marina - Sparks

Apparently this is a Pepper Mill property, but well below their usual standard. Registration is in casino, with overpowering smoke. The rooms can be non-smoking, but hallways are not, and smoking rooms are next to non-smoking-with linked air systems. Loud music blares in the parking area until late night.

To begin with it took a bit to find my reservation as it was through hotels.com rather than directly with the hotel. Sadly, I was placed in a room with a view of a wall while other rooms had views of the lake or the mountains. To top things off, the cable has EXTREMELY limited. On the plus side, the casino had affordable roulette.

This was a great hotel to stay in when attending the Rib Cook Off. My only concern was the shuttle to and from. When I'd call for a shuttle and it arrived I was told it was full. When I explained that I had called for the shuttle the driver was rude and shut the door in my face. This happened 3 out of 4 times. This was great! The room was clean and supper comfy. The food was great at the cafe as well. This hotel was close to everywhere we were going.

As we got to the hotel at 3am in the morning, after a whole day of traveling, the woman who checked us in was rude. She took a very long time, complaining that she had computer problems, and failed to describe the room for us. so, when I asked "does the room have one or two beds?" she literally snapped at me and said "Wait! I"m busy right now. Don't […] ask me anything yet!" I also initially requested a non-smoking room but we ended up in a smoking room instead, (no non-smoking rooms available). When booking this hotel, there was a description that said the place is newly remodeled. Unfortunately, our rooms were not remodeled. The bathroom tiles were severely cracked and faded. The handles on the cabinets in the bedroom had also fallen off. The chain on our door was broken and couldn't latch on to the lock. The towels still had brown/yellow/black stains on them. the screen to the windows were broken, allowing insects to come in and the door didn't fully close unless you pulled it in hard. We found out after coming back at night and seeing our door ajar. On the back of the door, there was a map indicating that there was a pool somewhere in the hotel. Since the weather was very hot during our trip, we canceled some of our planned activitities just so we could go back to the hotel to cool off in the pool. Turns out, there was no pool! The map in our room was an outdated map. The hotel is far away from the main strip of entertainment, so we came back to the hotel with nothing to do except play at the casino, which wasn't the point of the trip. It was too far to go back to Circus Circus or Eldorado to play. Also, when we first got there, the toilet paper roll was empty. I've been to western village in the past. The Staff is great and the beds are in gerat shape there is Ice on every floor and the Place was cheaper than Motel 6!!!

It was easy to check in, easy to find the room and if you can get on the east side, you've got a great view.

Rates were great, convenient location, OK room, but the WiFi didn't work anywhere in hotel. I was supposed to stay again a week later, but I cancelled the reservation.

You can't beat the price. It's no 5 star hotel, but the location is prefect, right on the Sparks Marina, it's one of very few casino hotels where you don't have to walk through the smoke to get to your room, and the recent remodel is nice. I'll take this hotel over plenty of more expensive ones I have booked in the past.

Nice hotels don't hold a $50 security deposit for customers travelling without pets. Nice hotels don't have surveillance signs posted in their hallways. The remote to the tv didn't work. This hotel (felt like a motel) was dated, dirty and smelled of smoke. The parking lot was sketchy.

I surprised my gal on her birthday with a quick trip thru tahoe, not wanting to drop hundres on a room on a Sat nite, I found this place for $ cheap Peppermill like, I said, nice lighting, every table a vegas style booth! I like this alot, convenient for me cause parts of my family live in Sparks, and it's right near the freeway so it's a quick jaunt to downtown Reno. And it's quiet. The only complaint I have is the pillows....the are like rocks. We had to call housekeeping to ask for extra pillows which helped a bit but well we decided to bring our own pillows next […] time. All in all we definitely will go back.....it's a nice stay and if you can get past the pillow issue you will enjoy....Still can't get used to the smoking in the casino aspect though..... Mehr

I was pleasantly surprised at how nice the room was. I had expected a much more basic room but to my surprise it was very nice and very comfortable. Highly recommended for an overnight stay as you travel or staying for an event in town. I'll be back for sure.

The beds are confi , but some furniture like a couch looks very old and junky dont much with the rest on the romm especific room 314 also the wall paper in the bathroom is pealing it does't look good

Loved it! The room was clean and new, the beds were heavenly. We weren't punished for having a pet. The pet fee was lower than all other hotels and our room was a regular room that smelled good. I got the first good sleep of my entire 10-day trip when we got to Western Village. The price for the room was amazing and the food prices were quite low--the […] 99-cent margaritas were great! I loved the spiffy black-and-white room design as well. The staff was super-efficient and nice about our last-minute 2nd day booking through hotels.com. I highly recommend this desert oasis! Mehr

I was surprised by the quality of the place for the amazing price. We were there when most of the hotels were full. Would stay here again anytime.

rooms have been updated from last years stay.good location for hot august nites v enues will stay there again.

We didn't expect this hotel to be nice. It was a last resort on a holiday weekend. It could have at the very least been clean. The towels were stained and dirty, the sheets had crumbs in the them. The shower and tub were dingy and scuffed. The staff were very unhelpful. Halfway through the process of checking in the woman who was working at the registration […] desk interrupted me by turning to another woman behind the counter and saying, "You want to deal with this? I have to clock out." I immediately knew this was going to be a disappointing stay. And I was right. Mehr

Hotel has poor ventilations. Hallways smelled of smoke. The two bathrooms we were in are drenched after a shower. Showers water pressure way too strong, could not adjust and hurt when showered. Rooms smelled of dirty socks. Not kids friendly environment. Would not recommend to anyone. Could have gone to a much cheaper hotel with better service.

A very reasonable price for what you get.It's a must if you travel with your dog. The motel backs up to a really nice little lake with a wide path all the way around. It has a dog park with a beach just for Fido.It also has swimming for the kids and a couple of places to eat. Best of all, the pet fee is a reasonable 10.00 a night. Check it out.

Beds not done when we arrived. Had to ask twice to get it done. At checking out, personnel at front desk too busy talking among themselves to attend to customers. Ceiling made of wood. Can hear each footstep in the room above. We stayed Saturday night. Train passes by close to the hotel 7 in the morning on Sundays. We slept with windows closed, but […] still hear it clearly. Mehr

There are not many pet friendly hotels around the area, and the additional pet fee is reasonable for just $11.95 per night comparing to what other hotels charge. The location of the hotel is odd and the outside will make you worry about your stay. But thanks for the newly renovation, the interior is neat and clean on both the room and casino. Since we checked in late and just want something simple, we order the $3 clam chower bowl and a foot long sandwiches. the clam chower served in a sourdough bowl tasted even better than the one from fisherman wharf in SF with 1/3 the price! The sandwiches is huge and fresh. Staffs are friendly. The only negatives we found are 1. The building is a bit too close to their parking lot, you can hear vehicles outside your room. 2. Loud air conditioning in the room. 3. There is no place for your clothing or other items in the bathroom, not even a single hook to hang your clothes. Other than that, it is good for its price. Mehr

A wonderful room at an affordable price. Only negative: Didn't like having to go into the smelly/smoky casino to check-in/out.

The remodeled rooms are great! Comfy king size bed, smallish, but functional bathroom. it is difficult to find where to check in & there is no parking to check in, but overall it was totally worth it. A little noisy with people walking to casino, but not really too much of a problem. Outside of hotel looks a little old but the inside of the rooms is super nice and recently remodeled. Dog rooms were nice and only $10 extra. The $50 pet and $50 gen room deposit was a little annoying but had no problems getting it back.

Not a new hotel, but clean and neat. The Marina is right out front, great place to walk and relax outdoors. Casino resturant steak house is pricey but the food was wonderful.

The newly renovated rooms are terrific! The Marina behind the casino is beautiful and has many uses for all ages. I love that my dog can go for a friendly walk around the Marina.

Absolutely MUCH better than before...the whole place has been under massive renovation and it's BEAUTIFUL. I LOVED it. For the price we paid, it was AMAZING. All employees offered SUPERB customer service and were always prompt and courteous. The view was amazing, the food was DELICIOUS, and our rooms were fantastic. I really liked that the hotel building […] was separate from the casino/restaurants, etc. for my family's sake and that we didn't have to worry about any of that if we didn't want to. The proximity to the Marina couldn't have been any better and it only took about 5 minutes at the most to get to downtown Reno from Western Village. We've stayed at many other hotels in downtown Reno, but this one has exceeded my expectations and far exceeded the quality of many of the other hotels we've stayed in. A+++ for Western Village!!! For the price I paid, this hotel was very good. I wanted to crash for one night and was expecting a very normal hotel. I was surprised when I saw the room. It was big and importantly clean. This Casino hotel came up under Hotels.com and turned out, inspite of the low price to be a real winner. The restaurants are excellent, the location convenient and parking is immediately adjacent. While it is smaller than some it cuts the walking access to everything and the Casino and restaurants are tastefully decorated and in good condition. We were […] in non smoking but no attempt was made by the Casino to prevent smoking at the small lounges in the middle of each floor which made for cigarette odor in the halls, yet not in the rooms. Convenience and price combined with quite acceptable quality in this choice. A very good find ! Mehr

This is a great place to stay - loved walking around the marina in the morning. Don't be fooled by the exterior of the building - the rooms are great and the beds are really comfortable. Will definitely stay there again.

Got a great night sleep both nights, even though there was a lot of foot traffic, was a great view of the lake and nice walk around it. Safe and well lit.....
