theWit Chicago - a DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel - Chicago

Bereits das zweite Mal bin ich in diesem Hotel abgestiegen. War es das erste Mal sehr überzeugend so sind es dieses Mal doch einige, möglicherweise kleinere Dinge die den Aufenthalt etwas schmälern. Betonen möchte ich das "theWit" doch eher zu den teureren Hotels in Chicago gehört. Konkret fehlte dieses Mal der Bademantel im Zimmer, Slippers waren keine […] vorhanden. Das Zimmer, obwohl in der 17 Etage war gegen die Strassenseite mit dieser quietschenden und lärmenden Bahn gelegen, die ich leider wegen meinem leichten Schlaf störend hören konnte. Mehr

Ich war im Juni 2009 eine Nacht in diesem Hotel. Das hotel hatte gerade zwei Wochen davor eröffnet. Obwohl ich schon morgens um 10 ankam konnte ich problemlos einchecken und am anderen Tag auch nach dem Mittagessen auschecken. I picked this hotel because I was visiting my daughter, and it is located 2 blocks from where she works. It is also very close to Millennium Park, the Art Institute and downtown shopping. The staff were very solicitous and helpful, and the room was comfortable. My main complaint is their ridiculous WIFI policy. On the website the hotel describes their […] WIFI as "the ultimate in wired and wireless high-speed Internet access." It is "the ultimate" in annoying and over-priced access. At the rate I paid for the room, WIFI should have been included, after all, if it's free at cheap chain motels, why charge so much here? Instead of free WIFI, theWit offered 3 purchase options. The lowest provided only the basics, i.e., checking email and downloading no more that 1MB PER DAY. The midrange option allows you to download a max of 3 MB PER DAY, and the top option allows you to download no more than 5MB PER DAY. However, (this is what really astounded me) access is only offered PER DEVICE! So if you are staying with your spouse and he needs to get work done on his laptop and you want to download a new book on your Kindle, you have to buy 2 WIFI accounts! Details about the WIFI pIans were not described in any literature in the room, and the front desk rep couldn't even explain the pricing or services to me. I only discovered the "single device" rule after signing up for the day. It's a good lesson to not make assumptions but to ask detailed questions before making a reservation. Mehr

I live in Chicago and my girlfriend and I wanted to have a romantic evening downtown and I chose the Wit based on other reviews and the overall look of the rooms. I absolutely loved everything about our room and the views were spectacular. I will always tell everyone to stay at this hotel when they visit Chicago.

Excellent location -next to all the great shopping on State Street and walking distance to Miracle Mile. I would have rated this a 5, but housekeeping didn't restock supplies. When I called to request some, an hour had passed, and no one came. I had to make a second call. Other than that, the hotel is very nice - clean and modern.

Great stay. Well located and staff was was excellent. Rooftop lounge has excellent view and is a must-see and great way to unwind before dinner.

TheWit was a perfect location for the places my husband and I wanted to go. The restaurant and the theatre we went to were less than 3 blocks from the hotel. I have a Great Time on my Birthday!!

On the outside looking in TheWit is a great hotel. When we got inside the games began. There were four us traveling and we needed a roll-a-way bed. I put it on the reservation when I booked, I asked when I checked in, I called a couple of hours after check-in before we went to dinner. All of those times assured it was on the way. Got back from dinner […] still no roll-a-way. Call the front desk, and was then told the room could not accomidate a roll-a-way. First time I heard that. I have traveled alot and used roll-a-aways a standard roll-a-way would fit. I told them to send it we would figure it out and would not violate the fire code, they were concerned about that. Fifteen minutes later still no roll-a-way, called back, and asked for the manager, I was told he tried to call but got no answer, he did not call. He told me I couldn't have a roll-a-way because there's were bigger and it would not fit. So I said change my room, to a suite or another room it would fit in, they had no other rooms, he said they would send a comforter to sleep on. I asked why no one ever told me all of this before. The first excuse was because I booked my reservation on Hotels.com, they didn't know. Then I asked what about at check-in, it was the person who checked me in's first day and he didn't know. I quit asking it just made me madder and more frustrated. Be an adult and take responsability, not excuses. When my employees make mistakes I fix them, I expect the same when I am the customer. I will say the hotel has a lot of charm it was just ruined me the way I was treated and for that Hilton just dropped to the bottom of my hotel list. Mehr

Wow what an outstanding place to stay. This will be my new hotel while I am in Chicago. The staff was excellent.

Location is about as good as it gets as you are close are on State Street shopping, and then only a couple blocks from Resturant central on Hubbard and State. Rooms are very nice, modern, clean... typical 4 star, but the shower head in our room would not stay put. and the bathroom fan was broken... not major issues, but annoying... maybe it was just […] our room, but overall it is a very nice hotel. I have stayed at the W for years on voyages into the city but decided to switch it up and so glad I did. The Wit boasts attentive staff, lovely sorroundings, and warm chocolate chip cookies upon check in. What more can you ask for?

The Wit hotel was the best choice to stay in the downtown area. It's closed by restaurants and shopping. Great service.

I use this hotel every year on my US Xmas trip from Germany. i love the location and the room. the upper level bar is awesome and the complimentary cookies are the best.

Great view of the city, this is the coolest room. Bath was awesome.

This used to be a 4 star hotel. Not anymore. For a "clean" room there was a layer of dust on everything and the sheets and comforters had stains on them. The bathroom sink was dusted at best, certainly not cleaned after the last guest which would explain the dirt in the sink. The shower didn't drain well so I was standing in 3 inches of water the entire […] time and all the mirrors in the bathroom had water and toothpaste spots on them. The heat didn't work properly so it was more like air conditioning the whole night . The TV reception makes watching it not worth it. Room service was lukewarm when it arrived and very pricy for what you receive. The hotel spa needed a cleaning also and the massage was pricy and the amenities were lame. It advertises healthy snacks while you wait - and what you get is granola from a box which you serve yourself from a jar - no flavored water in sight. Breakfast service in the restaurant was so bad that the manager had the meal comped for us. We waited 45 minutes for yogurt and oatmeal. What used to be a beautiful hotel is no longer. Its hasn't kept up. I've stayed in much better hotels in the city for a lot less. Do not recommend this hotel at all. Mehr

This boutique hotel exceeded our expectation. We took the EL (subway) in from Midway airport. This was so inexspensive for 2 and took us to within 20 steps of The WIT! Location was perfect for walking the city, catching a show or taking the EL. The hotel was clean and welcoming. The front lobby is comfortable with funky deco chairs and couchs. They […] welcomed us with warm cookies when we arrived. As we got off the elevator there was the charming sound of birds through the hall. The room was spacious, bright, nicely decorated with a WOW corner view of the city/lake. If you love a good bathroom that's spacious, bright, funky hardware and hot, hot water, The Wit is for you! The bed and pillows were exceptionally comfortable and the linens nice too. The gym was all windows with new equipment and the yoga room ( with built in iPod receptical) was calming, clean and comfortable. The Spa at The Wit was pretty and relaxing. With the same attention to detail throughout the ONLY thing missing was a sauna. The restaurant on the ground floor called State / Lake (it's on the corner of these two streets) was very good for breakfast and a late bowl of onion soup. The rooftop lounge - the best. Okay and the crown jewel was the plate of 10 warm sugar cookies (garnished with mistletoe) in the shape of a star , layered in ascending order from one as big as the plate to one the size of a normal cookie, that was delivered to our room on Christmas eve. Yum! Yum! I will stay at The WIT again and recommend it highly to everyone. Because it was such a good experience in the future, I'll also check out Doubletree boutique properties in other cities. The concierge was not friendly, helpful or knowledgable. She had no ideas for vegetarian restaurants and gave me incorrect directions for the one I mentioned. I went back to my room and used Yelp. There are many other choices in that area of Chicago.

The Wit was great overall. However my only complaint is that they charged for Internet access PER DEVICE. That seems very odd to me. Honestly, I'm not a fan of Internet charges to begin with....raise my rate by $10 - $15, just don't nickel and dime me. However, this is the first time I've ever been charged for each device.

The Wit is not worth the money they are asking. I have stayed at cheaper hotels that have better room conditions in the same location. The shower leaked and what they consider a "whirlpool tub" isn't what one pictures since there are no jets in the tub...nothing! Just a big tub. The room was cramped and small. I usually stay right across the river and […] that is what I am comparing this place to. The Wit wants you to "buy" into the idea of them being an upscale hotel but cut corners everywhere and were downright tacky at times. I mean tacky like giving me a cold stale cookie when I check in and having rainforest sounds in the room hallways. Next time I will just stay across the river. It's cheaper, less tacky, and has a great bar in the hotel. Mehr

Funky hotel in the heart of the city.

Funky hotel with great views from rooftop bar. Reception on the small size and occasionally crowded. Good location and convenient for loop and shops. Lifts somewhat erratic and got stuck one occasion at top !

I expected more for the cost.

I had a wonderful evening at the Hotel Wit. No problems other than no hairdryer in the room. Housekeeping came quickly. Although everything was lovely I found this to be more pricey than other hotels equally as nice.

I realize that there is a disclaimer that says that not all rooms have the amenities specified, but one of the features that attracted me to this hotel was the feature of having a separate shower & tub. I was not pleased to enter my room to discover a shower only, no bathtub. I contacted the front desk and was given a very curt response that they were […] fully booked and that the room I had requested only came with a shower - had I known that was the case, I might have gone elsewhere. Maintenance seemed to do the bare minimum on the rooms - after my first night there, I was left with one bath towel, one hand towel, and no bathmat - no replacement was given for the used linens. The ice bucket was left sitting with melted ice in it. Also, while I appreciated the blackout shades, they were rendered virtually useless by the light and cold air that streamed through a 1" crack at the bottom of the door. This hotel seems to be more concerned with catering to a group of trendsetters than to someone looking for a relaxing weekend away from home. The location is excellent, only a few blocks from Michigan Avenue and right outside the State/Lake El Station, but I would have gladly walked a few extra blocks for better service. Mehr

The hotel has a great location on N. State and Lake St, with a view of the Chicago River to the north. The KingSpa room was spacious, with a comfortable bed and nice bathroom and tub. The Rooftop bar is also a great place to hang out, grab a drink and check out some great views of the city. Overall, the place is highly recommended.
