"Amerikanische (?)

"Hotel Sotavento Cancun"
good for budget. window did NOT lock. door did NOT have a deadbolt only a handle lock. staff were hit and miss, some friendly some cold. restaurant made me ill twice. better to eat somewhere else. but for a cheap place to sleep, its not bad.
"Don't expect ocean views"
The Sotavento is a simple, quiet place. Our room was basic but clean; the matress was not very firm, and my wife had trouble sleeping soundly because of that. There is a decent breakfast included--eggs, potatos, beans, coffee and juice, and so-so bread to toast. Other food in the restaurant is overpriced, but then it is in the hotel zone. Be aware […] that the Sotavento is on the lagoon side of the zone. You can see the lagoon from a few places, but there is no ocean view. The beach access is through an entrance about a 10-15 minute walk away. We enjoyed that we were one of only a few sets of English speakers; most everyone else staying there were Mexican. Down on the beach was like walking down the street in the US--English everywhere. Because we weren't really into the beach scene there, we found this a comfortable and affordable place to stay. A public bus for 8.5 pesos took us into the city center from a stop 5 minutes from the hotel. We would definitely stay there again. Bottom line? Want to feel like you're back home with 12,000 of your closest yanqui friends? Want the resort scene? Want glitter and posh? Look elsewhere. That's not what we wnted, and we were happy. Mehr
"Hotel Sotavento & Yacht Club"
Difficult to find but once there it was fine. The room was a little spartan but certainly adequate. Bathroom was very nice - large shower. Restaurant was very good. We had a very good dinner there and the breakfast which was provided was certainly more than adequate. Did not use the pool but it looked quite nice. It was a great value for what we pa […] id. Mehr

"Sotavento-where peso-conscious travelers stay!"
this hotel was just what we needed--clean room, large shower with great pressure and plenty of hot water. the price was fantastic. this is a basic hotel where mexican travelers stay. it was hard to find. it is behind another larger hotel (named the calypso). the gardens are maintained beautifully and look like a jungle. breakfast was more than we expected […] but the food wasn't great. scrambled eggs, beans, stewed vegetables, white bread, and corn flakes. the food needed salt and spices! the pool closes at 8pm. all in all, a good place to stay if you just want a basic room, don't mind a rock-hard bed, and have your own transportation to go wherever you want. this hotel is at the end of the strip. "Hotel Sotovento, Cancun, Mexico"
Little hard to find, no signage out on main road, but newer, clean, beautiful grounds. Good restaurant, free parking.
"Hotel Sotavento & Yacht Club"
My husband and I stayed for one night. The staff was friendly, the room was clean and the shower was huuuge - perfect for two people! My only complaint was that the room was a little musty (not the first I've experienced that in Cancun). Running the air conditioner helped a bit. The grounds are beautifully kept and it was very relaxing to lounge by […] the pool. We found a roadside restaurant nearby that had some delicious food for minimum prices. I would certainly stay at Hotel Sotavento again. Mehr
"MOLD"
I checked in and got my room. The room were in the basement and had a funny smell. But I am not the sensitive type, so I didn't really mind. On the second day I startet getting sick and on the third, my eye were itchy, my nose were running, lips so dry that they were bleeding and I started getting red blisters. These are the symptoms of a mold infektion. […] So the fourth day i check out before time, as I wanted to save the rest of my vacation. Next morning I already felt better and second day, I felt great again. I am sure this hotel has a bad case of mold and that it made me sick. My advise is to avoid that hotel... Mehr
"Great on a Budget"
This is a great hotel to stay on a budget for a family. I would stay again! If you are interested in nightlife, not good at all. Public beach nearest to the hotel is not the best in Cancun. Go to the beach nearest to Senor Frogs, worth the taxi ride!
"Hotel Sotavento in Cancun - a little oasis"
We were a family of 8 on our way back from our Christmas holiday on the tranquil island of Isla Mujeres. After 8 days in Paradise, we were jarred by the noises and relative big city traffic of Cancun even though the Hotel Zone was removed from most of it. So you can imagine our delight upon arriving at Hotel Sotavento to find this little modern boutique […] hotel nestled amongst greenery, without the coldness of large high-rise chain hotels. We had found an oasis! Our rooms were clean, modern, and comfortable. The staff was accommodating and friendly. We celebrated our last night in Mexico, New Year's Eve, at dinner in the hotel restaurant next to the pool. It was exactly what we wanted: away from the loud drunken braying of celebrating tourists in town, we ate an excellent buffet dinner (the regular menu items chosen by some in our group were also excellent), and saw the new year in with other restaurant diners, celebrating with impromptu dancing. Our fellow diners were largely locals. No loud obnoxious tourists here! It was a memorable way to end the year - one that we will cherish for years to come. Our only critique was that the beach was a bit of a walk and when we arrived there, it was a bit of a disappointment. However, we had been spoiled on our little island and the inevitable comparisons were perhaps a bit unfair. All in all, Hotel Sotavento was a lovely and gentle way to usher us back into civilization. Mehr
"nice hotel, uneven service"
We like the setting of the hotel which is a couple of blocks from sandy beaches and faces a lovely stretch of the lagoon. The interior jungles paths are well manicured and offer another attractive feature. There were no smiles of welcome upon checking in. When I sceptically asked someone next to me what kind of a place this was? The desk clerk overheard […] and to his credit, made an immediate, clear improvement in his demeanor and was friendly throughout our entire stay.We requested and appreciated receiving a room with more natural light than the one we were given. Restaurant staff was jaded, and a bit indifferent but food was o.k. Positive surprise: expected free continental breakfast but received full American breakfast with no additional cost. 2nd Positive surprise: Free local calls. Negative surprise: The phones didn't work. and Internet service was hopeless except for early in the morning and late at night. Otherwise, a nice place to stay for a couple of nights at the right price. Mehr
"Good value for your money"
Nice small, quite, clean and friendly hotel and staff, It's the best value for your money. Great location for both beaches and Cancun town just a quick and easy walk to the bus stop if needed to go any where and also an easy walk to Isla Mujeres Ferry. Don't think it twice, so far the best budget hotel
"good but a bit out of the way"
alls great for the price, great breakfast, tour desk, staff help full and all speak enough english need to get transport to centre(but bus is only 8.5 pesco) DIDNT have the a very provessional service form dive operator(better to use a more professional company down the road if you are hoping to go for a dive, this guy cancelled at last minute and just […] left you in the air ,could have at least told of other operations close by) Mehr
"very spartan but great value"
The rooms were clean but very spartan. We needed a place to stay for a night before we could check into our all inclusive and this place was perfect. The restaurant was very good and super reasonable.

"Horrible"
It was the worse hotel I ever been, I am disappointed with Hotels.com this web shouldn't have this type of hotel. I spent only one night, towels in terrible condition (dirty and old), very unconfortabel bed and bad loation.
"Simple and Affordable"
This hotel is adequate for sleeping, washing-up after a day at the beach, and for a little relaxing. There is nothing spectacular, as the rooms are quite plain, but for the money it worked out well for us. I'd recommend this hotel for anyone who is looking for an affordable place on the hotel zone, but is planning to enjoy Cancun by traveling to the […] public beaches and tourist sites. It is not a place to intentionally go for comfort and relaxation, as there is no beach access. The rooms as I mentioned were sparse, not coming with any shampoo/lotions, nor a hand towel or wash cloth. Just towels and luke warm water in the shower. Rooms and bathrooms were very clean in the two rooms I saw, which is what I was really hoping for anyway. I was also pleased with the continental breakfast which was simple, but a good way to start the day. The room price + breakfast being included made it seem like a very good deal. Mehr
"Title"
Reasonable accommodation at a reasonable price. Rooms have air conditioning and bottled water on the first day but no phones or clocks or fridge or tea and coffee. Everything was clean but basic. Didn't try the complimentary breakfast. Hotel is at a small marina on the lagoon so beach is a walk away. Has basic local shops and pay phones - useful as […] the hotel tried but was unable to confirm my day tour (apparently due to certain numbers being unobtainable). Is about as far round the lagoon from the airport as you can go so will be about the last drop off and first pick up for the collectivo taxis and any tour busses. Staff were generally helpful - was able to check in early and wasn't too bothered that my room didn't have a view. Reasonable if travelling on a budget. Mehr
"Sotavento Hotel Cancun"
Just spent a week in this hotel. Before booking I read all the reviews so I knew what to expect. Good deal for the money. Convenient location if you want to go to the beach on Isla Mujeres- cross the Kukulcan Blvd from Embarcadero. $15 a round trip. Being just between "zona hotelera" and downtown Cancun, it is easy to travel both directions with public […] transportation. Taxi is ok too. You have to know the right price beforehand and negotiate with the driver. It works just fine. I felt safe throughout my vacation time. I enjoyed pretty much everything I chose to eat at the hotel's restaurant. The staff is very nice. My room was very clean, no smell, with proper working a/c. The mattress is hard and a little noisy, but that did not bother me. Mehr
"A hidden gem"
Very nice hotel at a very reasonable price for Cancun. It is not located near much though and requires a short and cheap bus ride to get to the beaches or to downtown Cancun. The buses run frequently and one never has to wait very long for one.

"sotavento yacht club"
if you are on a budget and dont care much for customer service then you might be ok with it.I personally like good customer service and miss having a beachfront hotel view.I was trying to save money and i did..but next time I would rather spend 2 or 3 hundred dollars more for a better hotel overall..this seems to be ok for the backpack crowd or like […] i mentioned for people that are willing to sacrifice customer service and location for a cheaper hotel. Mehr
"hotel needs to provide more warming in the rooms"
limited and bad quality towels, room is always warm because the ac is look to be off when guess is out, i never feel good in the room, but the people is so nice and make you forget about everything bad in the rooms.
"CLEAN AND SIMPLE"
I liked the room as it was what i needed at the price that worked. The continental breakfast would have been better with just a little frest fruit but it had juice, ceral and bread, coffeee and tea.
"HOTEL SOTAVENTO AND YACHT CLUB"
I liked the hotel as it was on a bus route and back from the main road to avoid some of the street sounds. It had what was important to me, reasonable price, very clean rooms, friendly staff, and an air conditionar that worked and i nice swimming pool with a great garden entree.... very comfortable. If you are looking for flat screen tv, a luxurious […] continental breakfast then you would be in the wrong place as these were the week points but then you can't have it all for the price. i recommend the hotel. "Budget but still not the great deal"
The hotel is located off the "beaten path" - so off actually that it is near impossible to find behind a huge other hotel and no signs anywhere to be found. When we got there we were shown a room above the hotel restaurant - loud and not to our liking. The next room was quieter but both actually had a strong smell of cleaning. The plumbing had problems […] in the evening, even though mornings were fine. The "continental breakfast" is a rip-off with toast, flakes, and stale pastries. Plus, no hair dryer (as advertised) was available. The staff was ok but did not really help much with our problems. So, even though it is budget, I would still expect more from it. Mehr
"Sotavento - Good values for money"
Nice comfortable hotel in small jungle in hotel zone. Very good value for the money. Has a great restaurant in the garden. Friendly great staff. Buses are very good organized so it is the best choice to use it to get to the beaches.
"Hotel Sotavento"
The Hotel staff was extremely nice and the rooms were great. Great deal compared to the other hotels i was looking at. Many of the staff speak great English and are very helpful with tourist info. The safes in the room are really small but they have larger ones at the front desk that are also free. Deposit required that is returned at check out. Wireless […] internet in all the rooms and great restaurant with cheap meals. I would highly recommend for travelers on a budget and young adventurers. Mehr
"great value for the price"
Loved the lit walkways to all the different towers. Very peaceful spot along the hotel zone boulevard being on the lagoon. But not too far from some of the nices northern beaches. Room was very clean and comfortable.
"Hotel Sotovento -- Low key, great value!"
Sotovento is tucked into a little neighborhood in the Hotel Zone. The location is not quite ideal, but if you have a car it's easy enough to get around. The staff was a little less friendly when we first arrived, but after a while, they seemed to warm up. The facilities are a great value for the price. The pool area was great fun in the sun and very […] relaxing with large pool recliners and umbrellas. The hotel restaurant had great food and was about half the price of most of the "nicer" places. Everything was better than expected considering the very reasonable price. Mehr
The hote is o.k but is to small, room are very small.
"No frills and thats why i like it"
Simple, clean place to stay with friendly staff. It is a little away from the main hotel strip, but thats actually what makes it appealing, because you get a cool travel-savvy crowd as your hotel mates. I just wish the bed mattresses weren't so hard : )
"Sotovento is a deal"
Sotovento is a GEM in terms of budget traveling. This is NOT a resort Hotel. However that doesn't stop it from being comfortable, friendly, clean, and charming. The rooms are as basic as it gets... but again simple, clean, and charming. The grounds are beautiful, and the neighborhood is safe. Next door to the hotel there's a little convenience store […] (helpful). Bus stop is 100yds away (I recommend you never use a taxi... to quote a Mexican bartender "only stupid people take a Taxi"). BEST of all is the open air restaurant/bar & pool. VERY affordable, and delicious. Some of the best food I had on the trip was from this restaurant, at a 3rd of the price of Hotel Zone restaurants. A W E S O M E (if you're looking to maintain a budget). Water/Ice is provided, continental breakfast is marginal but satisfactory. Finally the service is friendly. Most everyone is helpful in English. Mehr
"Hotel Sotavento - you get what you pay for"
Room was clean but at the outside entry of the room there was always strong odor of sewage while inside the room there was an overpowering smell of cleaning fluids. Toilet in our room (K1) had very low water pressure such that waste did not go down in a single or even in multiple flushes. Had to ask front desk on several occasions to send someone with […] plunger. Hotel is in walking distance of only one restaurant open to the public (Rio Churrascaria). Surrounding hotels have security guards that don't allow non-guests to enter their restaurants. Fortunately, there's local bus service that for less than US$1 will take you to Plaza Forum & Plaza Caracol (5-10mins away), both of which have numerous (chain) eateries. Despite this, hotel staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Lesson: We looked to save money for a brief one-night layover on our way to/from Belize. Our experience proves you get what you pay for. Mehr
The hotel Sotavento Yacht Club is close to and considered to be in the hotel zone. But I found it to be quite comfortably quaint and had a private feel to it. My travel was during the first week of February and found it to be very relaxing and enjoyable. The room was originally given to me had a plumbing problem and was quickly relocated to a different […] room. The room had the basic accomodations needed for my stay. It was clean and kept up throughout my stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Dinner at the restaurant was relaxing and very private. The near by store was a great convenience and had great service. If your looking to stay in a quiet out of the scene of the hotel zone this is the place for you. Overall I liked my stay and for the price you can't beat it. Mehr
"Off the beaten path"
Very hard to find this hotel, it was on a side street on the lagoon side behind another hotel. It is many small buildings in a jungle-esque type setting. My room smelled like an entire can of air freshener had been sprayed in it and not in a good way. There was barely lukewarm water in the shower with little pressure. The bed was very hard. The room […] was clean (except the smell) as were the grounds, the restaurant was good and had a big selection of food plus free wifi, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. The pool is small and shaded, but it is a short walk across the road to the beach. Also close to ferries for Isla de Mujeres. This hotel is at Km4 which is very far from the airport and the main Cancun hotel zone "strip". The buses are cheap and easy though, so simple enough to go to the street and catch a bus to downtown, the malls, restaurants, etc. It was fine for the price, but I probably would not stay here again. Mehr
The room was clean, but the AC/fan was very noisy. Our room was close to the Restaurant/bar and there was loud music all night. No guarded parking for our rental car. There is very little to do in the area, aside from an expensive pirate show and a ferry to Isla Mujeres. The food in the hotel's restaurant was good but the cocktails were lousy.
"Economical and what I expected"
I couldn't ask for more. It was cheap, clean, included breakfast and internet and free parking.
"Amazing Service in Cancun"
This was an excellent hotel with great service, a terrific restaraunt, and a peaceful setting. My passport was stolen from my rental car and they went out of their way to be helpful and resolve the situation in the fastest way possible. I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a quiet place to stay slightly away from the insanity of the […] Hotel Zone, in a sheltered, waterfront location. Thanks again! Mehr
"simple and clean...great value"
This hotel is 5 stars to me...not for luxury, because if that's what you want don't come here, but for it's simplicity and charm. The staff was very helpful, but not sure if they speak much English. The rooms are what I consider beautiful, spare, whitewashed, with basic furniture and an eye for beauty. A tropical garden, natural for the swampy edge […] of the lagoon, is in the center and you walk through it to the "yacht club", the little restaurant on the edge of the lagoon which serves a short and well executed menu. Complimentary continental breakfast is included, nicely done. The only thing that I didn't like is probably true of all of Cancun, things are very spread out, you have to call a taxi to go anyplace at night and they are expensive, although there is a public bus to the beach. Mehr
"NICE AND CHEAP HOTEL IN HOTEL DISTRICT"
The hotel was a great price with a very nice room. It is in the Hotel district but much cheaper than the other hotels. Room was clean but the sheets were very clammy which was very annoying. Free breakfast but just cereal, croissants, juice and coffee. Had a pool and a lot of very nice vegetation and a restaurant that was decent. I would recommend this […] hotel maybe just bring your own sheets. Mehr
"Sovatento Hotel - A good budget hotel"
This hotel is a great place for budget minded travelers. The rooms were clean and adequately furnished. The internet service is only in the res truant and lobby. The staff were friendly. The tourist bus stop is about one block from the hotel. My stay was just overnight as a layover and I would stay there again.
