The room is very spacious. Unfortunately there was no microwave and refrigerator in the room, and the hotel could not even provide one microwave in the breakfast area. These are very basic aminities one easily find in places like Comfort Inn. Holiday Inn Express is supposed to be a business hotel, and yet they could not provide basic things business […] people need. Staff are unfriendly. They asked to charge my credit card before they could mail back my phone charger. I will definitely not return this hotel. Mehr

Good place to stay when you have been on the road for several hours. I would stay here again.

I enjoyed out stay here but the buffet was closed and the hotel offers a free buffet. So I was kind of disapointed. The hotel was clean the the service was helpful though.

The staff was freindly an helpful, breakfast was good and the rooms were clean.... it was perfect the whole week i stayed

Summary: Terrible location, neighborhood with no restaurants/fastfood, pool broken, room layout is inconvenient, tub doesn't drain, ran out of hot water, extra charges for Lord-Knows-What. Details follow. This hotel is on one side of a divided highway, and is set back a bit from the road. If you approach from the North, you must U-turn and come back […] 1/2 mile. If you miss it because there is not adequate signage, you have to Uturn, back 1/2 mile, Uturn, another 1/2 mile and try again. Inconvenient, could be better if they cleared the lot immediately before the hotel. Also, don't go looking for food anywhere along this road. I drove 5 miles in one direction, 2 in the other, and found nothing but strip clubs and bowling alleys. Now onto the hotel itself. Informed upon check-in that the pool was out of service. Inconvenient but not the end of the world. The room had 7 table or floor lamps, but you had to navigate the dark room to find them-- there were no wall switches, except in the bathroom (where the fan didn't work). Relatedly, the lamps were all 3-way lamps, with 1 way bulbs installed. Find a lamp, click it on-- nothing. Click again--on. Click again to turn off, stays on. Click again, finally off. How annoying. I paid for a jr. suite, which was just a couch in front of a sink & microwave. Would have been nice to watch TV from the couch, but whatever. Now I come home & there is an additional $12+ temporary charge on my credit card. Can't figure that one out-- I checked in, slept, showered (in a tub that didn't drain well and ran out of hot water towards the end of a 6 minute shower), ate breakfast in the lobby which was quite good, checked out. Never picked up the phone, never even turned on the TV. So I'm waiting to see if it sticks and then will be demanding an explanation. Long story short: there are plenty of other chain hotels, and this is one of the WORST Holiday Inn Express locations I have ever stayed in. Mehr

The staff was awesome. The first night, I wanted a banket and extra pillows. I walked down to the desk expecting the usual delay that you usually get on the midnight shift but to my surprise, the man working the desk went into a back room and returned with the blankets and pillows that I had asked for and then carried them to our room for me since I […] had a couple other things in my hands. The next morning, I was shocked at the FREE breakfast buffet. There was a very nice variety of breakfast foods. Everything was very good. There were not any more cinnamon rolls left when my daughter came down from the room so again, I went to the desk to see if they could replenish them. The lady that I spoke to could not have been any nicer and within 2 minutes there were more warm cinnamon rolls on the buffet. My only complaint (and the perks far outway this little complaint) was that the pillows were very small and not very comfortable. Solution: ask for more and they will be happy to give you more. Also, better lighting around the mirror in the main room would have been helpful as there were 5 girls trying to get ready for a wedding at the same time. Mehr

I cannot begin to say how helpful Diana, the front desk clerk, was both by telephone and in person when we checked. Also, the gentleman in charge of facilities was very kind in increasing the heat in the pool water during our stay. My only complaint was that our room was set in the middle of a wedding reception group on Saturday night, and the noise […] level with slamming doors was intolerable. I spoke directly with a member of the party and they did quiet down. We would certainly stay at the HIE on future visits. we visit Meriden, Ct. at least 3x/year, and would and have also recommend this Hotel to other family. Thank you. Mehr

It was a nice hotel, very clean. The pool was a little disgusting, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in awhile. We had to leave early but our other 2 guests said that the continental breakfast was great.

Great hotel and staff. The only negative concerns the hot breakfast---the scrambled eggs were like rubber, but all the other stuff was good.

Hugeeee rooms and great value for the price. The staff could be nicer, and eac rollaway bed is $15, but the room can fit up to four besides the two queen beds. Great!

The hotel was nice except the pool is big enough for maybe 3 adults and smelt like a bucket of chlorine.

After staying at the HI express in the Meadowlands, NJ we were expecting more (I guess they are just above other HI's). Everything here but the staff was OK but just OK...the staff was quite good. For less money and more hotel you could stay just down the road at the Four Points Sheraton...

Very clean and comfortable...very nice breakfast buffet in the morning.

The room is very comfortable and very clean . The hotel location is connected to the high way which is convience. The only complain I have should be the heater in the room .... it blew hot air too often and when it did , it made a pretty big noise ...... One suggestion : The breakast buffet , would like to have more variety and hopefully they are all […] ready by the time when the restaurant open . I was told the breakfast is open from 7am to 10 am . We stopped in at 7:30am , there're still food not ready . We sat there for a little , they started to bring out the food . I noticed a family sitting next to us and were in there earlier than we did . By the time we left , they're still eatting cause the food were not totally ready yet the whole time we were in the restaurant and they might be there for at least an houre or more already. Mehr

I was working in Saybrook and found this hotel. It was nicely maintained and the breakfast was quite good. I would stay here again if I had work closer to hotel. The immediate area wasn't so great but eateries close enough drive for convenience.

Hotel was new and in excellent condition. Awsome breakfast to boot.

We had to travel a few miles to find a place to eat, but that would not keep us from staying there again.

This hotel was right in the middle of everything we wanted to do. We went to Hartford, Essex, Litchfield, and more. It was nice getting a hot breakfast both mornings and then heading out for the day. The receptionist was very helpful in getting us maps to our destinations. I would definately recommend this hotel to others.

Good location, excellent accommodations, good complimentary breakfast

This hotel is new, bright and comfortable. Get a suite, they are roomy and comfortable for a small upcharge.

We were in a King non-smoking room and it was huge!! The hotel is new and very well maintained. The bed was comfortable, and the pillows were even labeled "firm" and "soft." The cover over the bedspread was a very nice touch which gave you the assurance that everything was clean. We also had a great flat screen TV. The full breakfast is a nice plus. […] The only disappointment was the indoor pool which was extremely small. Mehr

This Holiday Inn Express is the best I have used. It was exceptional for the price. It was clean, very nicely decorated and the rooms were large and very comfortable. Highly recommended and will use again.

I picked this hotel from a list on the internet. Holiday Inn Express's have always proved to be a good choice in the past. This one was exceptional! The night we were there they served hourdives and beverages in the evening and was most enjoyable! They also had a nice hot breakfast. The room had 2 queen beds and a very nice bath, both very spacious. […] My two friends and I took a vote and this Inn won. We will definately stay there again and recommend it to others. Mehr

Everything was great (with the exception of the loud children who were all carrying on in the hallway until 1:00am). I did place two phone calls to the front desk in order to report the distruptive behavior of the children in the hallway, but the children continued to carry on until 1:00am. Needless to say, I did not get the best night's sleep.
