Frasers - Guest house - Wickford

This guest house is a real gem. It has a real family feel and all the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, without being invasive. It is set in an idyllic location with two pubs within walking distance that provide good food. Can't recommend enough.

This guest house is in a very quiet area, so ideal for a peacefull nights sleep. The staff were very welcoming and extreemly helpfull. The room was very clean and comfortable, with a nice comfy bed (although it seemed a bit short for me)The breakfast was plentiful and very good quality. Nothing at all to put as a negative.

A good B & B that meets all requirements. Room on the small side but cosy, clean and warm with great shower room. Breakfast would also satisy most needs. Very friendly owners. Very decent pub 5 minutes walk away.

Small cosy guest house set in the middle of what is now an antiques centre. Set halfway between Chelmsford and Southend at the head of navigation on the River Crouch it is a quiet location in easy walking distance of one pub with excellent food and another even closer which I did not visit but used to be a favorite pub 30yrs ago. Good accommodation […] at the house with the option of full English breakfast, tea/coffee and biscuits in room and free parking. Good friendly service with the owner often dropping in for a chat at breakfast prior to opening up his antiques business in the village. Many if not all of the local buildings now contain antiques shops including the tall imposing mill building on the river bank which is home to many small businesses. Mehr

The guest house is very good value for money. Breakfast excellent, location excellent, easy to find. The only bad thing for us is that the bed was too small. At home we have a superking size bed but most hotels/guest houses do not have beds that big. This is just a personal thing nothing wrong with the facilities.

Whilst the administration of Hotels.com was absolutely shambolic, the office of the Fraser Guest House was accurate, excellent and exceedingly helpful. The Fraser Guest House is situated in the tiny 'antiques' village of Battlesbridge surrounded by timeless unblemished sights of yesteryear. Battlesbridge has been reported to be 'The Village that Time […] Forgot.' The Fraser Guest house, with its ambience of olde worlde charm is simply delightful. The service and customer care was faultless, the room enchanting and the food cooked and presented to perfection. I would recommend the Fraser Guesthouse to anyone. Mehr

In the past when visiting the Basildon area, I have used the more well known chain hotels close to the noisy Southen Arterial Road, these hotels are bland and in most cases noisy. Not to mention expensive. I wanted to opt for a quieter environment whilst still being in easy reach of Basildon. This hotel fit that bill exactly, with easy access to a […] fast road into Basildon and surrounds yet located in a nice quiet area. I had one of the stable rooms which was on the small side with very little comfort from a work perspective, don't expect to be working (Laptop & notes) in the room, it is not comfy, having said that, the rest of the amenities in the room were ideal, nice decor and comfy bed. The TV was small and I am not sure why hotels insist on putting tiny tv's on the highest corner close to the ceiling, get a little bigger telly and put it a little lower, there really is not that much difference in cost. Excellent shower which is one of my must haves in hotel rooms and this was one of the better ones (are you listening Holiday Inn). A nice additional touch was the "Bistro Table" outside the door to sit in the sun and sip wine. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was warm but take your slippers for the small bathroom floor as it was cold even after a very sunny few days. Nice selection for breakfast but on the downside, whilst there were only two guests in the dining room, they managed to overcook the fried eggs which were supposed to be poached and get the bread choice wrong. If this had been a hotel chain I would have had a good gripe but as the staff were so friendly, I didn't really want to cause a stir. Please also put sugar on the tables, not just on the buffet table or at least use sachets one can take to the table. Some of my comments may seem petty but spending a lot of time in hotels for work does highlight some standard gripes. In summary, great value for money in an excellent location. I will be staying here again when in the area. Mehr

Lovely location, excellent service, friendly hosts giving a real family atmosphere, and discount at the local pubs for food and drink. Definately a place I would go back to if staying in the area. The local area is quiet and scenic and the pubs/restaurants only a short walking distance from the hotel and the standard of food was excellent. Breakfast […] was a delight an cateered all needs.
