The Standard, East Village - New York

... wer downtown wohnen möchte, ist hier richtig aufgehoben. fussläufig ist man schnell in soho, greenwich, nolita, chinatown, usw. junges, freundliches, und kompetentes personal. zimmer ausreichend gross und sauber. empfehlenswert sind die zimmer ab der 10ten etage.

Sehr schönes Hotel, toller Ausblick auf Manhatten von den oberen Stockwerken. Schöne Zimmer. Hotel wurde während unserer Anwesenheit umbenannt in THE STANDARD.

Das sehr moderne Hotel empfingt die Gäste mit einem Glas Wein und sehr freundlichem Personal. Unser Zimmer war zwar relativ klein, dafür sehr sauber und schön eingerichtet. Zudem hatten wir aus dem 15. Stock einen super Blick auf Downtown. Wer Städte gerne zu Fuß erkundet kann dies tun. Klar NY ist nicht klein... Wer lieber mit der U-Bahn fährt ist […] in zwei Minuten an der Station Astor Place. Wir können das Hotel rundum empfehlen. Mehr

rooms are small, even by ny standards.

Good location but tiny rooms. To be honest, we didn't realize that there were 2 different locations for The Standard Hotel in Manhattan and we thought we had booked at the Meatpacking District location. While disappointed, the Cooper Square location is on the edge of NoLita and SoHo so there is plenty to do within walking distance. The rooms, however, […] were tiny but clean and modern. Hallways get a little noisy in the AM, and you have to be creative when storing your luggage in the room. The service was very friendly. Mehr

This hotel has new owners. I've loved staying here in the past. Pleased to say it's as good as ever. Rooms very nicely appointed. Clean. Not big but not small. East Village is a great neighborhood.

Loved my stay at the standard. Everything about it was perfect, great hotel, friendly and helpful staff, beautiful room, excellent bar and lobby area for chilling, luxury outdoor seating lounges in sunny courtyard garden, perfectly positioned on the edge of east village and soho. Added bonus is gym membership to NY HRC across the road and free use of […] bikes to get around. A few small negatives. Rooms are very small, but that's NYC. Also A/C can be noisy so maintenance had to come. A few times to fix it, and the doors bang closed so you can hear neighboring rooms doors banging closed up and down the corridor. Great location! Very comfy beds and a huge bathroom! We stayed in a corner room so that might have been the reason the bathroom was so great. Pleasant staff and a nice bar/lounge to relax in. The price was great on Hotels.com. I will stay here again on my next visit to NY.

Very strange hotel. Difficult to find because no signs at all anywhere. Very small rooms, but not a problem: who wants to be in ones room when NYC is outside. No cups to drink from. Had to drink from a wine glass, which the maid took and did not replace. Clogged sink drain. Phone in room did not work.

Reserved a corner room expecting a great view of Brooklyn and lower Manhattan and was given a room that overlooked HVAC units and roof tops. When I expressed my concern to the front desk, I was offered a smaller room on a higher floor which I was taken to see before accepting. The front desk clerk then called to offer me a complimentary bottle of wine […] to offset the smaller-sized accomodation - which had a great view, BTW! I was greatly impressed by front desk service. The bell men were also very gracious. The Sunday brunch recommendation to "Peel" 2 or so blocks from the hotel was great! Would stay there again. Very close to the Public Theater were I saw a show. Great boutique hotel. Mehr

Very nice hotel so convenient to east village and union square and much shopping- I was visiting my son who lives only 2 blocks away- many day time adventures and great eats nearby. Hotel was clean and staff helpful- only complaint was I didn't get minibar restocked each day and sink drained slowly. I have already booked 2 more stays.

great east village experience. fun room, but small. nice bar and restaurant. will go back again.

Paid a little more to get a corner room with wrap around windows (it was a romantic get away). Close to all the sites I used to live by and love and was just a perfect location to show off the city to my wife of one day. Close to Blue Ribbon, Magnolia, E & W Villages, etc. The one strange thing I found were the black, pointy hooded robes. My wife jumped […] out of her seat upon seeing me exiting the bathroom. Looked a little like something that you would expect someone to sacrifice a goat in. (Sometimes maybe white is just as cool as black). Aside from that one little over-reach on downtown chic on the Standards part, I will say we will be going back repeatedly whenever we head back to NY. Mehr

The staff is helpful. The location is central as can be. The rooms are small, but well outfitted. The views are amazing. If you've got the means, I would suggest upgrading to a room with a tub and some more square footage, but with that said, we were still very happy with our little "Village Queen" room. Next time, I'm going for the bigger room, but […] I'm definitely returning to this hotel. Cool though the Meatpacking location is (it's also a great hotel), you really can't beat staying in the East Village, I say. Mehr

Very comfortable room with great view in perfect location. Would stay at again.

I followed the reviews online and found this hotel....which I loved!! Not the most expensive and not the cheapest but it was certainly worth every penny. It was comfortable, clean with good service and in a great location. My room surprised me with its size, I thought it would be a lot pokier (as I expected every room to be tiny in NYC) but it was a […] decent size, especially the bathroom. The location was perfect, It's surrounded by cool wine bars and 5-10 minutes’ walk to boutique shopping spots. My favourite is amazing deli & Italian restaurants are super close! The room was quite small although well appointed. The staff were exceptional and very keen on pleasing the guests. Good location, lots to walk to. I would stay there again. It was a bit pricey, but as usual, that is what the market will bear.

We had thought we had booked the wonderful Standard in Chelsea having stayed in one of their suites previously and having loved it. Apparently Standard purchased the ratty Cooper Hotel in East Village and that is where our reservation was. TINY room but with good view. Very disappointed in ourselves for not catching it prior to traveling. Our friends […] stayed at the REAL Standard for the same price we paid for our "closet with a view." Mehr

The hotel was in a great location. The room was big as far as NYC rooms go - great bed, very comfy! Made napping very easy. Bathroom was very large and clean and modern. Staff was professional and friendly. Overall, a great place to stay in NYC.

Great place for a great price!

The hotel was extremely clean, very nicely appointed rooms and, yes, a cool location. Parking in the neighborhood, on the other hand...well, that's NYC.

I live in the East Village and had to stay due to a problem with my apartment and book something very last minute and late at night. The Standard East Village was convenient and close to my home. Upon checking in got a corner king which indeed had nice views, but my room didn't have a bathtub. Reception quickly changed and got me a corner king with […] a tub which was exactly what I wanted. Room was nice size and very modern and clean. My only complaint was that the heater in the room rattled a bit but not enough to warrant a complaint or to change rooms. I would recommend this hotel to friends and family staying in NYC as the location is fantastic - close to lots of the iconic neighborhoods of NYC. Mehr

We had a great stay. Both nights we were upgraded to very nice rooms. Staff were helpful and courteous. Business center/computer room with printer was great. Library room was cozy (though would liked to have had the fire place roaring). Views from room were great. Bathrooms were very good. Bed was large and comfortable. The hotel was in the middle of rebranding itself as The Standard when we arrived, which made for some inconvenience. Staff, however, were very friendly and helpful. The common areas of the hotel were deliberately lit in a very low-key - that is to say dark - way. Too dark for my tastes (the lighting in the downstairs WC was almost comically non-existent). […] The hotel is clearly attempting to create a definite mood or signature style, but, sorry, it just felt as though someone forgot to switch the lights on. The room itself was quite small but very comfortable - especially the bed. We asked for details of the mattress when we left. The receptionist had them readily to hand and told us that a lot of guests ask the same question. The beds really were that good. There was hardly any space to store or hang clothing, yet paradoxically there was a huge (and very noisy) fridge taking up far too much space and making far too much noise all night. The air conditioning was also extremely noisy, and we had to switch it off at night in order to try to sleep. Overall a wonderful place. Positives. Super Comfortable Bed. Friendly Staff. Great Location. Super Clean. Negatives. AC didn't work up to par. Houskeeping kocked early [9ish] and woke us up. Overall would recommend.

The Cooper Square Hotel has spoiled me for other hotels. They have an exceptional eye for detail and service.

We have stayed at this hotel several times when we have visited our daughter at NYU or dropped her off. You can't beat the location. The hotel staff is courteous and helpful, and the rooms are clean, modern and nicely appointed. It is our "go-to" hotel for our New York trips.
