The Mary Arden Inn - Stratford-upon-Avon

We stayed several days at New Year's. The staff actually got to know us, and we felt like part of a big family. Everyone was so nice and helpful. Great food and atmosphere. They had a fun New years bash and we had a great time. All the nearby families came and danced with their kids. The rooms were cute and with nice views. Very well equipped and clean. […] The Marden Arden Farm is a short walk and fantastic to see in early morning. You can jump on the tour bus that goes around town just down the block. We stayed at this inn last week during a family vacation in the English countryside. It is a few miles from Stratford-upon-Avon in a small village. We booked this room at a higher price than we usually pay because rooms seemed to be scarce around Stratford-upon-Avon (2 weeks in advance). When we arrived, it seemed to be far away, but it is right across from Mary Arden farm, a wonderful living museum, and about a 5-minute drive from Stratford. When we arrived, no one was at the desk so we had to […] wait several minutes. Service in the UK is not as solicitous as in the USA so it can appear indifferent. The people are pleasant and polite, but you may need to ask more questions. Be prepared to carry your luggage up narrow stairs, along narrow halls, and through fire doors. (I'm find with DIY rather than bellhops, but you need to have the strength to lift your luggage and maneuver around tight corners.) The room was comfortable, spacious, and nicely appointed. The bed linens were luxurious; there was a sofa in the room, and the bathroom was modern and clean. The fixtures are a little strange for Americans but we figured it out. (Use the long chain at the door to turn on the lights.) It can be difficult to find convenient sockets for charging batteries and using hair appliances. We had to unplug a lamp. The nearby canal offered a great trail for a morning run. A full English breakfast was included. Although we only had a partial breakfast (choose what you want), what we had very well prepared--perhaps the best on our trip. Our compliments to the chef, who was also very friendly. The quaint picturesque inn and room were special enough to warrant the price. We enjoyed our stay and would have liked to have stayed longer. Mehr

Getting to the hotel was a little interesting since it is across from the Mary Arden Farm and outside of the central town area but it was well worth it. It is a wonderful B&B that I'd definitely visit again while in the Stratford-Upon-Avon area. The rooms were quite comfortable and nicely appointed. The inn is conveniently situated in the village and access to Stratford upon Avon and surrounding Cotswold villages and countryside. It depends what others require whether I would recommend it to them as it is an "Inn" and as such is "olde worlde" on the ground floor and if you want hotel comfort in a lounge etc. it would not be suitable. The meals […] were good and reasonably priced. The tea at breakfast (on the first morning) left a lot to be desired. I did ask for another pot but that was no better either; it appeared to have been made a long time and was stewed and almost cold. The bedroom was clean and comfortable. However only one easy chair was a disappointment. Bearing in mind Health and Safety I was concerned that there was no safety bath/shower mat; the uneven surface in the bath was not much use. Mehr

After a string of chain hotels, I wanted a small, relaxed, inn-type experience that was more of what I remembered England to be. The Inn was perfect! The rooms were very small, but very comfortable. we had a wonderful 2 night stay...in the king lear room. the breakfast was plentiful,,,on both evenings we ate in the bar and had excellent meals on both nights...the young bar staff were efficient and friendly...well done the mary arden inn

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. We slept very well in the comfortable beds. The room was large by English standards, and charmingly decorated. There was no lift so we did not bring our bags up, though the desk staff offered to do this for us. The breakfast was good and plentiful. There was private and adequate parking. Very pleasant pub hotel in a picturesque village on the outskirts of Stratford on Avon. Good resturant with good food and excelent wine / beer selection. Kitchen a little slow so not good if you are in a hurry, but worth the wait. Rooms very well decorated and clean. We had an issue with an airconditioning unit outside our window being noisy during […] the night (only noticable with the window open) but they agreed to look into this and check time clock. We stayed at the Mary Arden for a two-night getaway. The welcome was wonderful, the room was superb and the all the staff friendly. We ate at the inn for both nights of our stay and the food was excellent, with the fish and chips served on a sheet of 'newspaper' a particular treat. The room itself, the Romeo and Juliet Suite, was lovely and the whirlpool […] bath well used! My husband and I spent 3 nights here for our wedding anniversay. The staff are all extremely courteous and helpful, we stayed in the King Lear room which had a 4 poster bed, tea/coffee making facilities, etc. very clean and comfortable. You are ideally situated for calming, relaxing walks along the canal into Stratford upon Avon, and all the surrounding […] historic sites. We ate in the bar on 2 nights, the Sea Bass was delicious and with hearty full english breakfasts you are well set up for the day. We were so chilled we even forgot to put our clocks back - first time ever. Would definitely recommend the Mary Arden Inn and stay there again. Mehr
