The Westin Washington National Harbor - Oxon Hill

I've stay here three time in the year 2012 and each time I've experienced musty smell in the rooms and always have to switch rooms. I don't know if its the carpet but they should really consider changing the carpet throughout the rooms or having the shampoo monthy. This is the only downfall to this hotel that I have experienced so far.

The bed and pillows were not comfortable and the temp never got very cold no matter how low I took it. On the plus side the shower was very nice!

Good location

We stayed for the weekend and found it great! Close to downtown, lots of restaurant options within walking distance (although most were higher end/espensive). Room was comfy and quiet. Wigh the desk staff of the first night were more thorough! Didn't check us in for both nights (we had two separate reservations) and ended up billing us for water we […] did not consume. It was all rectified the next morning with a quick stop to the front desk. Good think I was paying attention! Parked inthe public garage across the street- MUCH cheaper than the valet parking at the hotel. Overall, a good place for a weekend stay. Any longer, we might have wanted to stay somewhere else. Not a good location if you want to actually experience DC. Hotel was a standard quality Westin. I'd go back, if forced to be in NH again.

Superb location in the heart of the area, a very nice hotel, but somehow, not quite what I've come to expect from the Westin Brand. The hotel is new, but some of the fittings in the room seemed a bit slipshod (ripples in the carpet, shower door did not close flush, letting water drip oout, and the video system did not work). Great location right on the water, close to all restaurants, convention center and pier. WIll stay there again!

Upon my arrival front staff was very welcoming and helpful. However, entering my room there was a very musty odor that was unbearable especially over by the windows. I thought maybe it's because they are pet friendly and it's a pet odor nr something but I wasn't dealing with that or could I ignore the smell this was not a cheap hotel reminder. There […] was no microwave/refrigerator or robes as stated. The hair dryer didn't work and my television had lines going through it, the telephone didn't work and the bed sheets looked yellow. They have me sadly mistaken not happening for the money it cost to stay there. Gathered my things went down to the front desk and demanded another room. I was granted a new room that was fresh smelling when I walked in sheets were clean television worked hair dryer worked phone worked needless to say I was much happier with this room. I won't throw them under the bus yet palnning another stay! Mehr

The hotel is nice. It's quite anodyne, but as far as business hotels go, it's about what one expects. The location's quite remote from downtown DC. Bethesda's probably closer if you can't find a good room in the center of town. On the day I visited, the hotel had a couple of small problems. There was a large leak in the lobby ceiling fron the rain, […] and they missed my room service order for breakfast. That said, they patched up the leak quickly, and the comp'ed me breakfast once I called for it. The neighborhood has some promise. It's a kind of manufactured downtown. The shops and restaurants aren't very different from what you'd mind in an upscale mall, but there's the potential that there might be some kind of nightlife. Just not on the rainy night I was there. Very nice people. No problems at all. I love the area and the rooms. Great place to spend my 18th birthday. Just annoying getting over there and trying to find parking. Valet was pretty expensive.

All and all, this is a nice hotel. My room had a musty smell though. The location is inconvenient if seeing the sights is a goal. Also, make sure to bring your wallet/purse filled with cash. It seemed to me that the National Harbor location was designed as a tourist trap and vendor offerings are priced accordingly. I paid $12 for a burrito and that […] was the cheapest meal I had on the grounds. A six pack goes for $14 bucks. Mehr

Stayed in this Westin for part of our DC visit. It has easy access to major roads but its's new area so not on GPS sysstems. This isnt a problem its easy to figure out since you can see the hotel on the harbor. Room was very clean, staff was gracious and restaurant was good.

Exactly what you can expect from a Westin. Good stay.

The Westin National Harbor is unlike the Westins where I have stayed in Seattle, Indianapolis, and Toronto. This hotel is 2-star, at most. The general condition of the hotel is sub-standard: The furniture in the lobby, hotel restaurant, and room were worn and scratched; the mirror above the table in the room where I stayed was cracked in two places; […] a light bulb in the bathroom was burnt out; and wash clothes and hand towels in the bathroom were stained. The front desk staff was not very friendly either: when I checked in, the staff person with whom I was working was going to assign me to a room with a king bed, until another staff person said something to him and I ended up in a handicapped room with double beds. (What if a handicapped person needed that room?) Their exchange was shady, should not have taken place in front of me, and could have been handled much more professionally and with decorum. When I got up to the room, the carpeting was covered in food crumbs. I was traveling for work and during conference sessions one day, returned to the room and found the radio blaring very loudly after the cleaning staff has been through it. Overall, not worth the cost and does not uphold the same standards as other Westin or Starwood Hotels. Shameful. Mehr

Very disappointed. Although checking in was easy, and pets were allowed, there really isn't anyway I would classify this hotel as a 4-star hotel. The refrigerator did not work. There was no room-service menu, and when I did order from room service (evening of arrival and breakfast the next morning), it took 25-30 minutes to get what I ordered. At one […] point, I asked for a bottle-opener and got a corkscrew. My daughter and I ate breakfast on the day we left at Sauciety - horrible. We requested a window seat to look out on the ocean and the boats but was taken to a corner table in the back of the restaurant. Our view was of a dirty floor, smudgy table and cobwebs on the wall. It took 30 minutes for our order to come out and when it did, it was obviously cold and tasteless. The furniture in the dining room was old, scuffed and some of the cushions on the chairs looked like they had been there for years. Our room did not come with a "do not disturb" sign for the door; and, when requesting one, it was never delivered. However, it was obvious that someone came in and made up the bed by just pulling our covers back to the head of the bed. No clean towels, sheets, etc. I'm appalled that Westin allows this hotel to operate in this condition. The only good thing about this hotel was the courtesy and friendliness of the doormen on duty during our stay. They were all kind, helpful and extremely respectful. That, however, does not make this a 4-star hotel (I repeat). There were other hotels in the area that I felt worth checking out if and when I choose to come to this area in the future. Mehr

I would absolutely come back to National Harbor & the Westin. The Westin is right in the heart of all the shops/restaurants. Although the harbor is small there are so many different things to choose from; I would recommend staying more then just one day. Our room was very clean, nice tv, and the bed was very comfy! Harrington's Pub had great service […] and fun atmosphere. I do not recommend the salad shop "Freshii" very expensive and not so 'fresh'. It is a fun little harbor for romantic getaways! Mehr

From the moment we arrived at the hotel, service was exemplary. Bellman was very cordial and Ann the receptionist made us very happy. We had been booked for a traditional room rather than a harbor view that we requested. Ann was able to put us in the harbor view that we had our hearts set on. Looking over the harbor and marina was so peaceful. Wonderful […] visit. Mehr

This area is such a surprise! Very new, immaculately clean, beautiful. Perfect hotel. Great place to retreat to.

This was our first trip to the National Harbor. The arrival assistance we received was quick, curteous and informatIve. We were going to pay for valet parking at $30 a night, however, a Westin associate told us we could park the car less than half of a block away for $11. We appreciated that information and it resulted in increased tips for the staff. […] The hotel is in a good location, close to all restaurants, shopping and water ferry. This was an enjoyable stay. Our criticism is no small shop for amenities nor a drink machine, only an ice machine. We would stay here again and did extend one more night over our original reservation. One aside, if you don't like soft pillows, take your own with you... Mehr

The room was very spacious and clean. The hotel is environmental oriented. Nice open spaces. Pool a little small as well as the gym. Restaurant was really good as well as the staff. I highly recommend the hotel

Pretty much what is expected of a Westin except dining room is noisy. Room was fine, but small but nagging complaint - ice buckets are too small and mine leaked (asked for replacement but never happened. There is virtually no information about the area at the hotel, no information on transportation, Alexandria, Washington, etc. There was one small tourist […] map of ten block National Harbor Area. General complaint of the area, piped-in music along the whole harbor - UGLY NOISE POLLUTION! Mehr

Overall, a very nice place to stay. The fitness center was very good as far as hotel fitness centers are concerned. My only gripe is that they try to charge you an arm & leg to connect to wi-fi. For the price charged, this should be included.

This hotel was superior in every aspect. I was at a convention at the Gaylord, but didn't want to drop big $$ a night on a room there. This was much more economical with the same quality. The concierge even moved me to a Harbor view room upon request., and it was a beautiful harbor view. Great place, great price, and great service.

The room had some damaged drawers making it difficult to open them. Also, one day my family and I returned to the room at 430pm and the room had not yet been cleaned.

The Westin National Harbor is an excellent hotel. Excellent service and accomodations, plus a beautiful view. I would stay again.

Overall it was a nice hotel but may be able to find a better value at a nearby hotel that has complimentary internet, breakfast, and parking. The Westin was very close to and cheaper than the Gaylord convention center. The room was nice and clean. Walking distance to all National Harbor shops. Metro bus into Washington D.C. Staff was friendly. Downside […] was you have to pay for wireless internet in your room. They also charge you to use the business center. Parking is expensive and on a daily basis. Mehr

The hotel was very nice. The only negative would be that it is inconvenient and expensive when commuting to Washington, DC daily.

The hotel was immaculate and clean. Staff was very professional and friendly. The bar and restaurant were very nice, food and drinks were good. Our room was very comfortable. My husband and I both loved the bathroom and especially the shower. It is a smoke free hotel and it smelled so fresh and good!

The bedroom smelled sooo bad and musty. I complained to the hotel the moment I check in about the smell and was told someone would look into it. I made another complaint the next day and still received No results. I had a two night stay and No one ever came to the room. On the day of check out I was offer a free breakfast at the hotel. I couldn't believe […] the service I received and the fact that I had to endure that smell for the duration of my stay. I lost two nights of sleep and money and all they could offer me was a free beakfast. I woulldn't recommend anyone to stay at this hotel.The rooms are dark and gloomy nothing uplifting about the rooms at all. Mehr

My only complaint would be that I left my camera battery charger plugged in the room, I even knew exaclty which outlet it was plugged into. When I called the day after check-out the lady at the front desk seemed annoyed by my call, asked me to call back, and when I did, she informed me the manager from housekeeping would call me back...well its been […] 4 days, Ive heard nothing. Excellent new hotel. V helpful and courteous staff. No on-site parking, but valet at small additional premium in car park on next block. V clean and comfortable room. Small indoor swimming pool and reasonable sized fitness centre in basement. Near to central DC and only took about 10mins into the centre of the city outside rush hour. Clearly newly-developed […] local area with lots of interesting shops and restaurants in immediate proximity of hotel. Highly recommended. Mehr

It's not the gaylord but it's also right on the water. I would not use their valet parking. There is a garage right around the corner 1/2 block up. The westin charges 60.00 for valet parking whereas you can pay 11.00 a night to park your vehicle in the same garage they use 1/2 block around the corner.

Although Hotels.com advertised that breakfast was included, which led us to pick this hotel over a less expensive one, the staff refused to honor the offer when I asked for it. It wasn't until my Anglo-Saxon husband spoke with the staff that they gave us passes for breakfast. When we made the "big mistake" of leaving our key inside the room, I asked […] for a temporary key to retrieve the other key card. Instead, we were escorted us as if we were thieves back to the room, despute identifying ourselves and the credit cards they had on file for us. To make matters worse, the escort refused to leave the room, until we asked him to do so for privacy reasons. The walls are not that thick, and we had the misfortune of bearing with rowdy children who were running up and down the hall, slamming doors and playing a movie loud enough for us to hear it in the room next to us until well after 11:30 p.m. At the end of our stay, they refused to give us a printout of expenses. For the price, location (everything in Nat'l Harbor is expensive), and lack of amenities, definitely not worth putting up with this staff. I won't be visiting them any time soon until they learn to treat their guests with respect and courtesy. Mehr
