Staff was great. Food was excellent. The other guests in the resort, very loud and disruptive. Some bars became overwhelmed and where not able to provide very good service. Seemed like the resort was turning into a spring break party atmosphere instead of the nice relaxing resort it should be.

The El Dorado Maroma beach far exceeded our expectations. The room was absolutely lovely and very comfortable. My husband is very particular about the air conditioning in a room - it must be frigid. Usually we have trouble getting to - and maintaining a very cool temperature. Not here - the room was very cool, and the maids did not adjust the ac higher […] when we were out of the room (a problem we find at most hotels). The property was beautiful and beach & water clean and refreshing. We were not looking for a place with a loud or active nightlife - so this was the perfect spot for us. Also, we knew that the resort had only 4 restaurants and was not your standard all-inclusive dining (ie: buffets with the same old food). We ate at each of the restaurants and the food was very good at every location and the menu varied enough for our tastes; however, I could see if you were a picky eater - or someone who loves buffets - this would not be the option for you. Like all resorts you could sign up for a wide variety of activities that would appeal to every level of physical activity; however, this was a "rest and relax" vacation for us, so we didn't participate in any additional activities. That's what is nice about the resort - you can be as quite as you'd like to be, but also have the ability to enjoy all that the Riviera Maya has to offer! Mehr

We absolutely loved the staff - in fact they made up for any inconvenience that may have occurred. I will say that we did not get the actual room we requested and that was very disappointing and they did not seem to have a grasp on their inventory available (we were not the only ones that had this issue). They also did not inform us correctly regarding […] the transfer to/from the hotel when I called so we ended up taking a cab because "Lomas Travel" would not take us there once we arrived. We were on a delayed Honeymoon and wanted somewhere nice, quiet, peaceful & relaxing. This was the perfect place for all of that, will definitely be going back for more with a longer stay.

We were going to get away from all city noises and have a quiet time. Last time we were here 2 years in July we found this place in according to our expectations, but since then when we came back we found the hotel became bigger, they added buildings, it became more crowded with people, they started to play loud music close to beach at night, so when […] we were trying to walk at beach at evening we would hear pretty loud. even at 9:30-10pm we could hear the music from the bar, what we did have last time. Good thing they now have kayaks and snorkling equipment available. SO, IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR QUIET ROMANTIC GATEAWAY - IT IS NOT A PLACE, WHERE YOU WANNA GO ANYMORE! HOTEL STARTED TO IMPROVE IN DIRECTION TO SATISFY 'HAVE-FUN' PEOPLE. SO WE WERE QUITE DISAPPOINTED BY THIS SUDDEN CHANGE. We will not come back there anymore. If you like fun, music, night activities, music concerts, and loud night life - then this place is coming towards you. Maroma was great! My biggest issue and it got better through the stay was the food quality. I would question it being called gourmet but we did have some fairly good meals. It wasn't bad enough to keep us from considering going back to Maroma. Staff was great, especially Sergio and Adriana (& Luis from Lomas)!

We had a great time. The hotel staff is the shining jewel here - pleasant, extremely friendly and very accommodating. Paola our concierge was awesome and Luis @ Lomas had the details of our external resort activities all taken care of. The grounds are nice and relaxing and the restaurants are nicely done. We enjoyed the food and the gourmet inclusive […] concept. I don't really think we waited at all or any significant time for anything while there - restaurants, service at the bar, or room service. There are plenty of lounge chairs and beach front beds to go around. Only improvements I would make would be increased/different lighting (the green just wasn't my thing) for the grounds at night and illuminating the main pool and aqueduct for the swim up jacuzzi suites at night. The swim up jacuzzi suite was great and so nice we were tempted to spend more time in the suite but felt the draw and attraction of the beach! We plan to return later this year for more R&R. Mehr

Pros: The staff is friendly and considerate. Infinity Pool Jacuzzi Suite is spacious. Jacuzzi can fit in two people. The room has both indoor and outdoor shower which is fancy. The king size bed is comfy and pillows have variety to choose. Patio view is great with chairs and daybed, and there's private pool (more like an outdoor bathtub) to enjoy the […] view. Internet signal is strong and fast though they charge you $15/day. Restaurant food quality is good Cons: Not cascading the resident info thru the staff. People knocked at our door 4 times within 3 hours asking to change towels and refill minibar, etc. No way to show "No Disturb" at the door. There are a lot of dead mosquitoes on the daybed and in the private pool. Room service menu is on TV channel; hard to read and find the things we need. Jacuzzi drain didn't working properly so we couldn't try the jacuzzi. Outside the room it was dark and the only light was attached to the trees and in "creepy green" at night. Breakfast at the only restaurant open in the morning will have to lineup a while to get fresh omlette. Sand at the beach is kinda yellow and hard. The view at the beach wasn't great because of the artificial reefs around the coast line. Despite all above, we still saw many people enjoying their time at the hotel. But overall we think it’s just an “ok” hotel to stay with the not-that-expensive rate. For honeymoon we’d recommend to try other hotel Mehr

Beautiful beach but the water is too shallow to swim. It was so funny looking at people just walking around in the water...nobody swam. There was a large hose across the ocean under the water which interfered with the beauty. We really enjoyed the food....everything we ate was very delicious. Especially the fried fish and taco was amazing.

i book this hotel months in advance, and payed for the most expensive room they have, as it was part of our honeymoon. We got there, and the service was great, but they told us our room was not ready, so they offered us lunch and a great ocen view, while they "readied our room". three hours later we asked what was happening with our room, and were escorted […] back to the main lobby. And there they simply told us there had been a "maintenence problem" they could not solve, so they offered a change of hotel and an upgrade. After arguing with them for a long time they compensated us with the upgraded room and a free candellight dinner at the beach. At the end we stayed at the "el dorado royale casitas" which is a much better hotel and the room, food, service and experience was much more than what we expected. But the sad part was that one of the hotel´s sales people told me that since we had booked through expedia.com the hotel couldn´t guarantee a room even if we where charged in advanced since they don´t give priority to "small" agencies. Whatever the real problem was, we came out with a much better deal and had a wonderful honeymoon. And we will continue using expedia for it´s wonderful and hassel free services, and the great deals and prices. Mehr

Nice quiet hotel. Beautiful clean beach. The Activities center is right next door so you can sea doo, snorkel go fishing...etc just minutes away from your hotel. I stayed in the honeymoon suite (room 521) and the room and view was amazing. The room had an indoor and outdoor shower and a jacuzzi tub.

Just got back from Paradise! Stayed at El Dorado Maroma from July 16th thru the 26th of 2010. It was perfect. If you are looking for total relaxation and a quiet peacefull retreat, this is the place. The resort was at 92% occupancy, and you felt like you were in a place that was at about 15% occupancy. No problem finding lounge chairs or beach beds […] anytime of day. Restaurant reservations never needed, just show up and eat. And eat we did! The food was great. Please consider that if you only expect stabdard steak and potatoes fare, this is not the place for you. Every dish is of a gourmet version. All have specialized sauces or twists that render the dish as unique. Don't go here to order a hamburger, or pizza or even a steak with fries or a baked potatoe. The closest you will get to just straight up american dinner, or steak house food will be breakfast, where you can order any type of egg dish you want. Service was impeccable. When we would leave the pool bar the bartender would emplore us to stay! Towel art on our bed every night. Room was great, bed comfortable. Beach was supurb. Tranquil shallow water out for over 150 Yards. Great clean white sand. No surf shoes required for going into the water, just soft sand. Mehr

El hotel en general muy bien, chico pero acogedor, muy buen servicio de todo el personal, en especial Emilio, Dora, Camacho, Luis de Lomas Tuvimos algunos incidentes y detalles que evitaron que nuestra estadia fuese excelente: 1.- Al llegar te dan un tour rapido del hotel que termina en tu habitacion, cuando quise probar la caja de seguridad me di […] cuenta que no servia, me mandaron inmediatamente a una persona de mantenimiento y no la pudo reparar, luego vino otra persona y en resumen se tardaron mas de una hora (por la cual no pudimos estar comodos en nuestra habitacion a la llegada). la caja la terminaron reemplazando por otra que no estuvo nunca fija en la pared. la luz del closet primero no se podia apagar, luego la apagaron quitandole el sensor, el cual nunca repararon por lo cual nunca tuvimos luz en los closets. 2.- a pesar de que reservamos desde el domingo un lugar para el shuttle a playa del carmen, nos pusieron en lista de espera, la van se lleno y no nos pudieron llevar, tuvimos que pagar un taxi...not cool 3.-las cenas tematicas, al menos las que probamos (thai y maya) estuvieron muy malas, pescado quemado y seco, puergo duro, un desastre. El dia de la cena Maya, nos toco ver como la silla de un señor colapso y se quebro ocasionandole una caida muy aparatosa al señor, quien por cierto no era obeso para nada, espero lo hayan compensado con al menos un masaje en la playa... 4.- El ultimo dia en laplaya presenciamos contaminacion de aceite de motor en la playa Mehr
