Sheraton Columbia Downtown Hotel - Columbia

In Columbia for a business conference. My hotel was perfect for my stay. Great room, nice staff, fantastic location...even roof top bar was nice and had a great view. Would definitely staff there again.

We were extremely disappointed in this hotel. The rooms are extremely small (the beds are comfortable but take up 90% of the room) and we purchased an upgrade for an additional $50 per night- which was an absolute waste of money. We were "sold" on the superior location of the room, access to rooftop bar and apps/cocktails from 5-7pm- which we felt was […] worth the $50. Our room required the use of the same elevator/stairs everyone else in the hotel used to get to rooftop bar, the "appetizers" consisted of small bags of lays chips and granola bars and the cocktail was a $3.97 bottle of wine. As a side note, there was also no breakfast available when we were told that this would also be included. Breakfast in the hotel ended up costing us approximately $32... The hotel is clean and basically average on a general scale- our main disappointment stems from paying more for an upgrade that really didn't exist. Mehr

Stay was a Friday evening arrival and a Sunday morning departure. Started out ok, staff was professional and attentive, room appeared clean upon initial inspection. TV did not work, no signal, refrigerator did not work and was leaking water. Went to dinner at the hotel restaraunt and found the entree (Pasta Pomodoro) to be dry and overcooked. Friday […] night was not restful, extremely loud patrons in the hall between 11P and 03A coupled with the ambulance traffic in and out of the local hospital made for a challanging night of rest. Left hotel around lunch on Saturday to attend a wedding, returned back to the hotel around 8PM to find our room not cleaned. I called Guest services and told them that our room was not cleaned and at a minimum, I would like some clean towels. We went to the bar for a cocktail and returned at approximately 10:30 to find the room still not cleaned and no towels. Checked out early on Sunday morning so that we could get home to shower. Mehr

Everything was fabulous! The hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the room was nice, clean and elegant. The only disappointment was the absence of a fridge in the room. I kinda expected that at a hotel with three and a half stars. I would definitely stay here again.

Hotel was clean and hotel staff was friendly. Didn't have hot water in the bathroom at first and had to call maintenance to fix the problem. Overall the stay was average and not worth the price that it cost to stay at the hotel.

This is a former bank, old building, turned into a hotel. I've been to that type of hotel before and they appear old and are generally musty. Nice hotel, BUT very disorganized staff. Arrived on a Sunday to find only 1 of 4 restaurants open. Sat 20 minutes before getting any attention from wait staff and then we were given a very limited menu and the food arrived cold. This only available restaurant also featured live jazz. Next morning, after being told breakfast would be served on the mezzanine level, we arrived to find not a soul there. When we inquired at the front desk, we were met by confusion. The reception then offered us a complimentary breakfast in the 16th floor lounge. We arrived on the 16th floor to then find no one there. We returned to the lobby and purchased a minimal stale croissant and coffee. no Parking , self park was really not an option , $22 for valet overnight , the " restaurant " was really more like some tables in the bar - the food is what you would expect in that setting. rooms were nice , no Ice on our floor or the next one down and when I reported to the front desk they already knew it ?

On a fully booked weekend with a major college football game in town, the Sheraton had 2 people at front desk trying to do check in and bellhop functions at same time. It was crowded, their system went down sometime in the afternoon (we registered at 9 AM when it was up, but room was not available/clean and they did not assign any to us) and the 2 poor […] souls at the desk wanted people to wait to get a room until system came up (this was at 3 PM, before the 7 PM kickoff - people needed to get into their room!). We asked to speak to Mgr, who never bothered to come out of her back room to speak with us, though we saw her speak to another guest. She should have been out at the front desk helping the 2 front desk people and being a leader. There is no excuse that they did NOT have a single bellhop there to take/return luggage from the back room -- the 2 front desk staff had to stop helping all the people in line so they could get baggage from the back room. On top of all of that, when we checked out the next day and got our car from the valet, he brought the car around and never picked up a single bag to load into the car -- we had to handle it all ourselves. Overall the service level was dreadful. Definitely NOT a 4 star hotel. Mehr

Came to Columbia for USC Parents Weekend. Room was not ready for check in when we arrived at 7:30 p.m. No other room available except for a king sized bed. Took 45 minutes to be served at rooftop bar. TV cable had no signal so no tv for the evening. Took a shower the next morning and no shampoo or conditioner in the room. the hotel is very overpriced for what you get. While it is a very nice setting, very historic, the rooms are exceedingly small. The decor is nice but that is about all, particularly given the price. I have stayed in much nicer hotels for less. Our room was very noisy. The ice maker was incredibly loud and we were next to housekeeping, with things being […] banged around alot. When they cleaned our room, they didn't replace the shampoo, lotion, coffee, etc. When I asked for refills, they were very prompt about it, but we had to ask, which is odd. We stayed on the club level and the food doesn't compare with the Ritz Club level at all. The hours the Club was open were very reduced as well. The staff are very pleasant, and the guests as well. We met alot of people and the Vault bar was fun. We probably won't stay there again Mehr

The Sheraton is nice enough and the rooms are basically comfortable. The are very small - on par with NYC hotels, really, despite being in a vastly lower density city. The mini fridge in the room was both restricted from guest use and not stocked; I don't know if that's standard for them. The bathroom fixtures were good and there was plenty of hot water, […] but there was no space in the bathroom for toiletries. There was a TV in there, but no bath tub from which to watch it. The maid service didn't come around until mid-afternoon, which was unusual; I'm accustomed to them coming in the morning. Apparently they have room service available, but there was no menu in my room so I've no idea if it's any good. The rooftop bar was, like the rest of the hotel, cramped, with over-priced drinks. There was a live DJ, but the space was so small that dancing or getting far enough away to be heard speaking over the music were both basically impossible. Mehr

the stay was wonderful. my only complaint was that my coffee pot didn't work at the plug it was placed...i had to move it. since i am CRAZY about coffee, i was bugged. other than that, it was wonderful!

Friendly staff, recently renovated former bank with a vault bar on the first floor and a rooftop bar that overlooks Columbia. Rooms and bathrooms are in very good condition. Fitness center is modern but a little too small. Enjoyed the buffet breakfast and the grits. Convenient location.

This hotel is in a great location. Downtown and within walking distance to restaurants if you don't want to eat in the hotel. Beds were very comfortable, and the room was clean. My only issue would be the $22.00 overnight valet parking fee....no good parking available around the hotel:(

We absolutely loved our stay at the Sheraton hotel. I do have to warn against hidden charges as well. The coffee service stated it was $0 in the room service menu, so we ordered it. The next morning the maid shows up in our room with $10 coffee! Still not a complaint though, because when we left the hotel employee said it was a misprint and we would […] not be charged. The room is beautiful. The bathroom is huge with a tv in it, and the bed linens were to die. I wanted to buy them. Bed is tucked away in the corner, so kinda cozy. I rated a 4 because our tv was fuzzy, and we didn't get showtime- my only complaint! Try the downstairs Vault Bar. Worth the price! If you want a cheaper drink- the rooftop bar is very affordable. We had four shots and two beers for $16 :) One drink downstairs is around $15 :/ but delicious! Oh and don't valet. The parking garage is right around the corner and FREE :) Thanks Sheraton! Mehr

I paid for valet parking only to have my vehicle parked on the street all night instead of a garage. Important as they are not responsible for damage caused by someone other than the valet service. They turn off the ice machines and hot water after 11pm. They charged my credit card for the night even though I showed the Hotels.com receipt at check-in. […] Still trying to get that fixed. I called on Monday and the ONLY person who could address my problem was out for the day. A Sheraton only has ONE person to do that? Either Sheraton is a poorly run organization or someone lied to me. Room wasn't ready until 330pm. The sliding glass door in the shower was cracked. Unexpected perk tv in bathroom. Very comfortable bed. Staff were friendly. Overall good experience.

Loved the charm...from the Vault Lounge to the Rooftop Bar to the dark hardwood floors of our room. Very reasonably priced! Will definitely return during football season!

the hotel is blocks away from many of the best sights in Columbia, but the Downtown area hasnot caught on to the revitalization of many other Downtowns. There was literally only one restaaurant other than the ones in hotels in the area. It is an excellent hotel, however.

My only complaint? There isn't much going on in downtown Columbia at night.The hotel itself is amazing --and the restaurant in the basement is excellent as is the Vault bar. I just wish downtown Columbia had more going on.

Only issue was that the pillows seem to have been switched out after the first night stay. The first night was fine, but the second and third night the pillows completely collapsed as soon as I put my head down. Even with two pillows my head was not supported whatsoever. Everything else was fantastic and the staff was incredibly friendly.

Ice machines on all floors not working the four days I was there. Took 30 min. for room service to bring ice. Dirt moped or swept into the corners. Didn't like the feeling when walking barefoot in the room. Rug was ripped.No microwave or refrige. Tile floor inside shower with no bath mat. Very slippery. Had to use towel on tile floor upon getting out […] of shower. No shelve or anything near the basin to place your toothbrush, comb or brush. They did furnish a blow dryer with an outlet by the sink. The prongs were so bent they wouldn't fit in the outlet. No bathroom vent and windows painted shut. They have 24 hour shopping.....a glass door not as wide as a closet door and one layer thick of things....but you can shop 24 hours a day!! The people that work there are super nice, friendly and helpful. There is a Marriott down the street, I'll try that next month. Mehr

Nice historic hotel in an old bank. We had a very nice corner room with great natural light. Cool bar in the vault. Rooftop bar. A longer walk to Colonial Center then other hotels we have used but overall a good hotel. We would stay at the Sheraton again.

The hotel staff is very helpful and the building itself is beautiful. The room we got was a bit small but it was still comfortable. The beds are great. There were a few small issues in the cleanliness of the room when we got there but nothing that was serious. Overall this is an excellent hotel and should be considered when staying in Columbia.

The only issue we had with the hotel was the communication between the front desk and the cleaning crew. We called at 10 to see if we could check in earlier than 3 and they said it was fine. We came in at 1, checked in and headed up to our room. We definitely startled the hotel maid who informed us that our room was not ready for us. We went back downstairs […] and waited with our bags for 25 minutes. The front desk clerks never asked us if there was an issue with our room. We appreciated them letting us check in early but wish that they had taken the time to make sure that the room was actually ready. The front desk clerk also did not tell us what time check out was. Nice hotel but twenty bucks to park? Seriously? Ten bucks for Internet? Great location and bed was nice. They have a free Internet spot downstairs using their computers only. Coffee shop didn't open till seven am on Sunday morning
