This resort is beautifully located north or Mt. Arenal with views of the volcano from nearly everywhere on the property. Where you can't see the volcano, the lush gardens easily make up for this. There are flowers, hummingbirds, and other tropical birds everywhere. There is no lava on the volcano now, but that did not detract from the experience. We […] had a problem with the door not locking correctly one night (drunken guest at the wrong door!), but the staff quickly fixed it the following morning. I thoroughly enjoyed my trip to Costa Rica. The hotel was in a good spot and service was excellent! Rooms are dark and cold though and need better lighting installed, otherwise the rooms are spacious and cleaned daily. Staff are friendly and kind. Rooms in scattered buildings up a slope. My room, 406, accommodates two couples, has it's own pool and all the amenities. Room had a stunning view of Arenal volcano. Service was exemplary, at check-in, the dining room and bell staff. Hotel seemed to have mostly older guests.

Our stay was very comfortable - we loved the garden setting and the Costa Rican look of the buildings. The staff were very, very accommodating especially Kaylor - what a wonderful young man who was going out of his way to make our stay very memorable. The hotel is also close to Tabacon, the hot springs.

Beautiful location. Great service. Bird watching in the mornings was atreat, toucans, humming birds etc. So close to nature. Polite and nice staff. Kids loved the pool. Alhough neighbourd hotels have nice pools. But that was not our concern.

Everything was nice about this place and we liked the bathroom and pool! The bed was hard and noisy though but was not too bad. The price was right without a doubt.

This was a beautiful hotel. We booked a superior room and it had a private garden, private hot tub and waterfall shower. We loved this room and for the price it was more than worth it. The staff at this resort were very helpful, attentive and friendly. It was very busy over the weekend so if you want to hang out in the pools book during the week. Our stay at Mountain Paradise Hotel could not have been more luxurious. From the moment we checked in, we truly felt like we were in paradise. The restaurant for dinner was a bit overpriced and undistinguished, and getting a cab to town a bit overpriced, but these are minor quibbles. This is a fun hotel. We had excellent service. The grounds are wonderful. They are redoing the pathways to the Villas so just be patient. It looks nice though & really is not an inconvenience at all. Some staff were helpful, some seemed very disinterested in doing the basics of their job… The room we got was in the very back of the property (which we were happy about), and upon arrival it looked AMAZING. Of course it was far from bug proof and there were tons of spiders and bugs in our room. We soon realized our toilet made a screeching noise every […] time we flushed! Later we realized there was also some sort of plumbing problem because the toilet was stinky and leaking. Also they had people doing work on both walking trails out of our room down to the pool/reception/restaurant area. It was terrible because we were looked at like we shouldn't be walking there but there was no other way to go. Also it was very loud very early, which greatly took away from the noises of the birds in the morning and any possibility of sleeping past 8. I would probably stay here again, despite my complaints. Mostly because they allowed us to check in early, brought us welcome drinks, and I didn't properly complain about the toilet situation (so they may have moved us or done something to compensate for this problem for all I know). Be careful if staying here, it is the only dining option near by and very expensive for so/so food. Mehr

My husband and I stayed at Mountain Paradise for 3 nights in May 2011. The grounds are beautiful with a wonderful view of the volcano when it isn't covered with clouds. The staff was great - very helpful and friendly. We arrived late after driving in from San Jose airport and were greeted with cold towels and juice and taken in a golf cart to our room. […] The rooms were very spacious with 2 king beds, a nice little patio w/ a Jacuzzi tub (which we didn't end up using because the pool was so warm and nice). The waterfall showers look a little cheesy in the pictures but are actually pretty cool! We ate in the hotel for dinner the first night and it was ok, but a little expensive compared to the other options in town. Breakfast was included in the rate and was very good each morning. We had a perfect view of the volcano from our room the first morning when we arrived and it was perfectly clear which is rare for rainy season. The hotel staff (Jon) gave great advise on activities and booked a zip line and hot springs for us. I would highly recommend Mountain Paradise as a great place to stay in La Fortuna & a great value as well! Mehr

beautiful grounds, amazing showers and bathrooms, tubs/pools on porches, rocking chairs, all in typical Costa Rican style architecture. great onsite spa and breakfast buffet. pool (bartender, crowd and drinks) is a blast as well. will definitely stay there again. would also be a great place for romantic getaway. room 315 was on back side of property […] so would be really private. We've been there at the beginning to the raining season - after the main season. After arrival and an welcome cocktail we were driven by a golf card to our appartment. The appartment was great - especially the bath room. It had one luxery shower and one waterfall shower - and it was huge! infront of our appartment we had a smal yacuzzi. The garden was […] great! Many different flowers eyerywhere. And because of all the trees and bushes every appartment has its own privacy. A central pool area with two bigger and one or two smaler pools of different water temperatures was also lovely arranged. The water is heated by the nearby volcano which we couldn't see because of the clouds which are common at this area and especially at this time. The breakfast buffet was delicious and changeing from day to day. All in allthis hotel is our favourit after traveling arround in Costa Rica for about eleven days and seeing lots of other hotels. (We've stayed at this one for two nights) One thing that can be improved are the smal ways through the garden and appartments: The used stones are getting loose and so sometimes only the concrete remains. We had a wonderful time in La Fortuna and at Mountain Paradise Hotel. The only problem we had was the first morning, we took very cold showers in the waterfall shower, which was awesome. We addressed it with the front desk after our breakfast and it was fixed immediately. As any hotel, food and drink are more expensive than in town. It's hard to say if it's the gorgeous locations, the tranquil large hotel room, the lush quiet grounds, the waterfall & massaging showers, the heated pool, or the very outstanding caliber of staff that made this place remarkable. I don't think I've ever gotten such phenomenal service from any staff at any hotel, even compared to 5 star hotels. Comfortable hotel with good location to access local activities.

My family of 3 just came back from a 3-night-stay at the Mt. Paradise Hotel. It was quite an experience. Like many families, I booked the hotel based on all the positive reviews, pictures of the property, and the "waterfall" shower really caught my eye. We were not disappointed! The staff is excellent, very friendly and accommodating. The grounds are […] gorgeous with an awesome view of the volcano. We stayed at a "premium" suite, and it was clean and the beds were very comfortable. Breakfast was predictable but good. The lady serves at the egg station was super nice. All the fruits were delicious. We also had dinner there once: steak and lobster "surf & turf" special that night. It was not exceptional but worth it. My husband and son took an early morning dip in the "warm" spring pool and they enjoyed it. We were lucky with wonderful weather while we were in the area. The volcano view from the pool was splendid! Be aware of 2 things though: 1) bathroom can get VERY wet quickly because of the setting. The minute you turn water on, it splashes ALL OVER the bathroom. I had to put down at least 4-6 large towels to cover the tile floor or it gets super slippery. It is also messy, so for some people this can be uncomfortable (I was not happy the first night, then I got over it because I did appreciate hotel owner's intention of creating an indoor/outdoor natural experience for the guests). 2) There is very little storage space in the room. There is a "dresser"/make up table with small open shelves; and there is a "treasure box" trunk at the foot of the bed - that's it. We had to live out of our suitcases because there is no room to put any changing clothes, etc. Overall, we liked this hotel very much. My family travels a lot and looks for variety in hotels we stay. This one is truly unique. I am a neat freak so having water splashed all over the bathroom and plants overgrown where I shower is not my thing; but somehow I fell in love with the place. This was a great hotel to stay at if you are spending time at Arenal Volcano. We were very comfortable here and the service/staff were great! The food was good for breakfast and the restaurant staff was attentive. The pool was just what we needed at night after spending the day sightseeing. I would recommend this hotel!

The location, setting and property exceeded our expectations. The only two complaints are the rooms have paper thin walls and the service is non-existent. The pool bar tender made us feel like he was doing us a huge favor by serving us and I filled my own coffee cup several times.

From the moment we arrived we felt comfortable in the perfect combination of lush surroundings, in the elegance of this clean, refined facility. The private bugalows are simply lovely including private out door jaccazzi, wonderful view of Arenal, unique bathroom with waterfall shower as well as a delicious breakfast buffet. Our hotel stay in Mountain Paradise exceeded our expectations. The grounds are beautiful and lush. The staff was friendly and helpful. Our room was excellent - perfect views of the volcano. The pool area was immaculate and the water was warm and clean. I liked that we could make international calls for only $3 a day. The food at the restaurant was good, […] especially the Chile Relleno (which is different than the American kind). The menu is not extensive, but it was fine for our needs. Breakfast had made-to-order omelets and a full buffet of hot and cold food. The hotel books tours for you - sometimes at a lower price than you can get yourself (depends on the tour). We rented a car, but you wouldn't need to. The hotel has shuttles into town 4x a day and the tour buses pick you up on site. Friends of ours stayed in a nearby hotel and paid 4x our cost per night. Their hotel was a little more modern, but certainly not worth that much more! I highly recommend Mountain Paradise for the value and secluded feeling you get. It was so easy to relax and enjoy our vacation!! Mehr

most romantic place i've ever stayed. the views are breathtaking, the stay was far superior to any i've ever encountered. the staff was awesome, and the villas superb. can't say enough good things.

This hotel is incredible!! We had the least expensive room- the junior suite. It was sooo beautiful. They are bungalow type rooms-quite large. Ours had a king size bed with a double bed as well and a large dining table that seats four. Nicely decorated- the beds were very comfortable. Of course, the bathrooms are the most fun. They have a waterfall […] shower with live plants in planters on the shower to make you feel you are in the jungle and a separate hydro-massage shower! The bed faces the double glass doors which slide apart and opens to the patio. The large patio has a two person jacuzzi and two rocking chairs. The private patio is hidden from view of the other guests by beautiful flowering landscape plants- so you can relax and have a quiet relaxing soak. They have a safe as well. The staff was great- everyone was very cheerful and wanting to help. I actually found that all over the country- they are quite the welcoming people. The breakfast was delicious. There was a lot of variety and they changed it up each day. They have a person making eggs and omelets- which were so good. They typically would have about three or four types of sweet breads and cakes, french toast or pancakes, eggs and omelets, toast, pineapple and several other fruits, their Costa Rican rice, potatoes and some sort of entree that I would typically eat at dinner, cereal and juices. I did not eat there for dinner or lunch as it was very expensive- $27.00 a plate. We did have non- alcoholic pina coladas at the swim up bar for 8.50- they were so so- wouldnt do it again. The pool was so fun- they heat it to the perfect temp in the evening so that you really enjoy it and it is open 24 hours and lit up beautifully. There are several waterfalls and jacuzzis at the pool area and several connecting pools. I feel like the others who have written- this hotel will go way up in price as soon as it gets to be more well known. Paradise is a good description of the hotel. The property is lush and beautiful. Pool area is unique and very relaxing.

We really liked our stay in this hotel. Great rooms - large sized with really fun waterfall showers (+ a regular shower if you don't go for that), private front porch with personal jacuzzi (ours was small, but fine for the two of us). The grounds & views of the volcano were awesome!

This hotel was great. The rooms were all private, birders should love this place. The pool was amazing as it was thermally warmed by a hot spring. Beginning to show a few rough edges on the hotel maintainence so I am not sure how long they will be able to keep up the true hiigh end customers they appear to be looking for- we got it at a bargain but […] know what others look for in hotels like this. I really enjoyed our stay at the Mountain Paradise hotel. The location was great. The hotel provided complimentary shuttle service so you did not need a car to get around. The rooms were clean and large. For those that are elderly or dont feel like the walk,they have golf carts that transport you to and from your room. The gardens and paths to the […] rooms were fantastic. Such beautiful decorations and native plants. We saw many local birds and butterflies. The path way is hilly but very well maintained. We were there Oct 31,2010 and the pool was closed. I was very disapointed since we were not notified about the closure. They were building a new shelter over the pool so maybe it will be open now. The staff went out of thier way to insure our stay was exceptional. The breakfast included in our room rate was very good. The fresh fruit every morning along with your choice of breakfast items. If we called the front desk for anything it was taken care of right away. The clerks spoke English so there was not communication problems. Other than the pool being closed, we had 1 other complaint. Our room was almost next to the workshop/maintenance area. Someone had a dog at that spot and I had to call and ask the clerk to take care of the dog that barked all day.. we also woke up at 5 am to that same dog the next day. Once I called the situation was resolved quickly, but I did have to call and complain. Also the workers cut thru the property right outside our porch area that faced the mountain so we had a lack of privacy...that was a shame since these porches had wonderful rockers and a hot tub so you could relax on your private porch and see the volcano Mehr

The staff is friendly and speak English, the pool wet bar is just newly renovated, beautiful pool. Terrific view of the volcano from almost everywhere, including your private porch and hottub. Waterfall shower, hummingbirds, flowers and fruits everywhere. I wish I had stayed my entire trip at this hotel. It is truly a paradise and the low price makes […] it even more enjoyable! Mehr

The restaurant was terrible. The prices were outrageous, the food was adaquate, and we were charged $5 for a bottle of water we never ordered.

Beautiful Hotel with great views of the volcano. (No lava flows on this side but still good) The room was huge with a waterfall shower. There was a private jacuzzi on the patio, never used it but a nice touch. Beautiful pool with a swim up bar. If you are going to eat at the hotel eat there as the restaurant is over priced and the service is terrible. […] Paid $70 for two pieces of cold lasagna and the waiter seamed pissed off that we were even there. Ended up walking over to the bar to pay the bill and leaving. Overall a great hotel just avoid the restaurant. Mehr

No brinda servicios de acuerdo a la tarifa que se paga. Desayuno con deficiencias (por ej. nos quedamos sin mermelada, no tenemos manteca y en su lugar en 15 minutos me traen una porción de margarina, etc). Baño con una ducha y una "catarata" que inundA EL BAÑO Y TAMBIEN LA PIEZA,etc). No lo recomendaria a un amigo.

SE hizo una reservación desde Agosto de 2011, de cuatro cuartos contiguos para 4 matrimonios, al momento de llegar no había disponibles los 4 cuartos contiguos, al menos dos cabañas. No pareció bastante incómodo

Este hotel es expectacular y superó nuestras expectativas por mucho. Escogí este hotel como sorpresa para mi esposo para celebrar nuestro aniversario de bodas y fue el lugar perfecto! La habitación perfecta, el baño y ducha con catarata es muy original, el jacuzzi privado en nuestra terraza rodeada de vegetación y con vista al volcán Arenal es un lujo. […] Nos encantó que la piscina está abierta 24 horas. Es un hotel muy privado, verdaderamente boutique, el servicio amable. Definitivamente el lugar perfecto para disfrutar una estancia romántica. No recomiendo llevar niños! Mehr

La decoración de os alrededores y habitaciones del hotel son muy adecuados y bonitos, su atención muy amable.

El hotel tiene un concepto diferente, tanto la ubicación de las habitaciones como el diseño, la ducha parece una cascada y el jacuzzi en el corredor estan muy bien. La cama bastante cómoda aunque el edredón no estaba 100% limpio, olia a húmedo. El hotel cuenta con una piscina pequeña, la mitad esta temperada y la otra parte es fría. Todas las habitaciones […] tienen vista al Volcán Arenal, asi como cafe y coffee maker. El check in nos lo hicieron en el lobby del hotel, no en la recepción. Tratan de hacerlo personalizado sin embargo fue un poco confuso a la hora de llenar los documentos. El mismo chico que hace el check in es quien lleva el equipaje, traslada los huéspedes a la habitación en el carrito, retira el equipaje y hace el check out. El desayuno no esta mal, sin embargo lo que deberia estar caliente estaba frío, los chafing dishes estaban apagados a pesar de que el restaurante es muy ventilado. Mehr
