My mom and I were there to visit her brother and to attend the Fiesta!!! which was faboulous. The location was great because the park and ride is right across the street from the hotel which was very convienent and cost effective, I rented a car and really didn't need it.

The hotel was not clean. The carpet was never clean even though it was vacuumed (I saw the small vacuum that was used). The stairwells were not swept the whole time we were there, and guests sat on the steps and smoked blocking the stairways. The exit door at the back of the hotel got sprayed with some kind of filth and was never cleaned. Our blanket […] had hairs all over it. We did get a new blanket when we asked for one. It wasn't at all luxurious but it was worth it. The staff were nice the room was clean and my kids enjoyed it. We had a good time and it was convenient for where we were going to.

We had a great stay at the HoJo in Balcones Heights/San Antonio, TX. Our room was spacious and clean. 1 minor maintenance issue was resolved immediately! The pool area is open and clean. The room was big enough for for entire family. And the hotel staff was very friendly. I can't wait until my next stay I will be booking there again.

I was mislead by the website pictures, the rooms did not have up to date equipment (TV's and Security safe) lamps and safes did not work. broken and discolored furniture and carpet. The breakfast room was nice and the pool area. AC units had a funny smell.

Hotel stay was nice. Breakfast was good. Room was clean and spacious. Staff was very friendly. Only complaint was that the minifridge did not get cold. Overall very good hotel stay.

It was a very nice room and we would stay there again

San Antonio can be expensive especially near the River Walk. This hotel is about 8 miles away and was a very clean hotel, grounds well maintained. The surrounding area is a bit run down, but all the rooms are interior courtyard access so it's safe enough. The rooms were large - all with separate sitting areas.

Truth is, this hotel was disgusting. In our first room the water pressure was bad. When we called the front the desk, the young lady mentioned that she was the only one on site. They had no maintenace or anything late at night. Our second room had a horrible stench to it and the air conditioner and heater would go on and off. At that point, we gave […] up and just dealt with the situation. Apparently Texas and California have a different meaning to Howard Johnson. In California they are a lot nicer. Just sayin.... Stay there at your own risk. Forgot to mention. The parking lot had used condoms on the floor. Put it this way, it looked like a ghetto apartment complex turned into a hotel. Enough said. I attended my daughter's BMT graduation from the military and it was embarrassing having to take her back to the room to relax. Mehr

For the price I was not expecting a great hotel but because of the name I thought that it would be nicer. It is just another cheap motel with a Howard Johnson sign. Next time I will check better instead of considering only the name of the hotel.

Front desk attendant was attitudal and unwilling to accomidate us beyond our first request! Will never stay there again! Changed rooms twice, all rooms had an old, stuffy smell. Sleeper sofas all busted up! I ended up taking a rope I found and fixed the third one we encountered myself.. Again, will never stay there again!

Good stay for the price and convenience. We were in San Antonio for the holiday weekend so we only needed a place to rest and clean up, so the amenities were not as important. The room was clean and comfortable and the staff courteous. Nice looking pool (closed). Overall good value.

We stayed at the Balcones Heights Howard Johnsons once a couple of years ago and remembered the value. This week we stayed there again and received excellent, responsive service. The staff was helpful and accommodating. They quickly responded to anything that was amiss. All that was wrong was the hair dryer didn't work. Our room was a king, non smoking […] and it was a true non-smoking room. No residual odor. The room was large, comfortable and clean. The hotel construction is dated but ownership has done a good job of maintaining the property. No noise or insect problems. Overall, I classify this as an outstanding value for the money and we will be back. Mehr

Definitely I will not stay in this hotel anymore! Old rooms, bad odors, leaking faucets, dirty clothes from previous guest left in the room, no service at all, lack of maintenance, etc, etc. spend some more money and go to another place if you can!!! I put 1 in the overall raiting question on the survey, because it was not 0 on it!!!

The hotel was very clean, the staff couldn't be any better or friendlier! I asked one of the staff members about a short cut to get out of the hotel. He drew me a map and it was so easy to get on hwy 410, 10, and 281. I was a little leary when I read the reviews but figured I would find out for myself. I am very glad I did. The beds were awesome, the […] rooms big, it was quite. Yes there were a lot of people there and quite a few busses rolled in with high school kids, and college kids. So, I would go there again. They helped me out a lot and not a single grunt or a curse word. Thank you staff, they are wonderful!!! This hotel is about 8 miles from the Riverwalk, on the feeder road of the 10 freeway. The staff was pleasent enough but the environment was pretty mediocre and the beds were hard. It wasn't much to speak of overall.

I arrived at hotel room at noon and wasnt able to check in till about 2:30 it wasnt to inconvinient but we were tired. We loved the pool and the spa no problems there. First off the delivery driver got lost gave me a call and was rude about it even yelled at my 12 yr old sister. I figured when she arrived i thought my order was going to be complete so i didnt bother to check it, when i got to my room i was missing the wings and the salad was all brown and soggy. I called back to the pizza place and the girl said shed call the driver and call me back, i received a call from what i thought was the manager and he said hed send me an order right away, an hour later nothing i called back to the number he had called me back from and he was just playing around saying he was sum detective guy and hung up on me. I called back the original number and told him what was going on and he started to yell at me getting very hostile. We ended up driving to the pizza place OMG! it was a shack of dirt out in the middle of the most ghetto part of san antonio. I was told i couldnt get my money back but that they would make me a fresh order. The place inside was disgusting literally mounds of dust on everything looked like it hadnt been cleaned in decades. While we waited for our order a guy came in selling items it was 2 am, i couldnt believe it, i was terrified for my life. walking in to the place was like a scene in a horror movie. The bathroom was disgusting. The room smelled like smoke, the jacuzzi did not work. The ceiling fan was filthy.

They need to replace furnitures or re decorate, it looks old.

Clean rooms, comfortable, quiet place to relax and rest, convenient location near to many restaurant, supermarkets, shopping malls, etc.

The whole place smelled like an old apartment. I also killed a rather large roach in the bathroom. I would not recommend anyone staying at this hotel.

The hotel was close to most everything. That was the plus. Our room door was broken. It took us 5 minutes to get into the room EVERY time we went in. And when we called the desk to report it, they told us it had been broken for a month. They charged us extra per hour to check in early. And we checked in 3 hours early.

Everything was great, but daughters money was taken out of her luggage. Someone needed it more than she did.

I was happy with the hotel. It was located close enough to the attractions my family was interested in that we didn't have to drive too far. The room was clean and the pool was refreshing after spending the day looking at all the attractions.

The room was large and the service was great. It was a nice experience for my family vacation. They had a nice pool and hot tub and the other people using the pool were very considerate. I have small children and it was a nice hotel for the price. There is a WalMart right around the corner and a shell station right next to it. Very convenient.

Good room but very dirty! There was blood on toilet and stains on sink. Sheets and pillows smelled dirty.If you are picky with cleanliness don't recommend to stay here

This place is ok if you're just needing an inexpensive place to stay. Nothing great about it. You can tell it's getting old but they're still trying to keep it nice. Little things: got the ironing board halfway open and then couldn't close it. Refrigerator was really iced over. Only got two towels, had to go to front desk to get more.

This hotel was extremely dirty they didnt even clean the rooms the days that we stayed they just did the bed. The toilets had pee stains on it. The bed were hard as rocks very uncomfortable. I wouldnt recommend this hotel to any one.

We chose this hotel for it's price for a queen suite. We had 2 adults and 2 teenage girls. The hotel was old and dingy. The bathroom was dirty and rusty. There were only 3 towels in the bathroom for 4 people. Went to the front desk and they didn't have any but said they would send them down. We ended up using our beach towels we brought for Sea World […] because they never sent us more towels. We were told that we couldn't use the pull out couch as a bed and had to initial something saying it would not be. What is the point of a suite with a pull out if you can not use it. The pool is in the middle of the hotel and we could hear kids screaming outside and playing in the pool well after midnight. Mehr

The location is a good center point for the 3 attractions we were going for, Fiesta Texas, Seaworld and The River Walk. Staff was helpful in every way from giving directions to milk for our child in the middle of the night. I plan to stay here again on our next vacation.

The staff was excellent! They were so friendly and helpful. The room was HUGE and clean. The pool was wonderful. The location was excellent. I highly recommend this hotel.
