Muckross Park Hotel & Cloisters Spa - Killarney

Excellent hotel. Great staff. This is ideal for anyone wanting to visit the beautiful Kerry countryside but wants to do so in comfort. Not totally sure its 5 star standard but still excellent.

Room was very comfortable and bathroom was large. Everything was spotless in the room. The tv could be updated as it was very old and the picture was great

I was really looking forward to my stay in Muckross, especially after reviewing their web site. Quote: "The Muckross Park is the only hotel in Killarney's majestic National Park with 25,000 acres of forest, mountains and lakes on our doorstep - just step out the front door and into the park!" Unfortunately I was a bit disappointed when we got there. […] On the web site it sounded as if the hotel was located in the National Park and you would expect views of the Killarney lakes, where as it was located across the park and unfortunately no views. The hotel was very quiet, which is probably not a bad complaint if you want to rest, but you would think that the service will be better especially when as quiet. Unfortunately we found that they really did not pay attention to detail as you would expect from a five star hotel. Our Television was quite old and outdated and did not function properly, our newspaper were forgotten, no turn down service on some of the nights and we were locked out of our room one evening when we returned back to the hotel. The rooms were pretty standard and no different or better than any other hotel we have previously stayed in. We also had issues with our reservation and found out a night before we were due to arrive that we were not booked into the hotel. Costed us 30 mins holding the line with hotels.com to sort out and to ensure our booking has been confirmed. We went to the pub connected to the hotel for dinner two of the evenings and were disappointed on both nights. On the positive side the staff was very friendly. For the price you pay you would expect more value for money. I would not recommend if you have high expectations of a five star hotel. Mehr

My husband, our 10 month old son and I stayed in Muckross in January of 2012. We were at a wedding there the summer before and thoroughly enjoyed the reception so when I saw it on Hotels.com at a good rate for 5 star I immediately booked it. The hotel was lovely but I don't think it was of a 5 star standard. Our room was lovely but I was expecting more […] modern gadjets in the room including a flat screen tv. (I have only stayed in 5 star accommodation in Ireland once before and the room that we stayed in, on that occasion was far superior to the room we received with Muckross Pk Hotel). The one fault I had with my stay was that I thought they had a pool (from looking at the pictures it looked like a pool) and when the 3 of us went down for a swim we were told that it was only over 18's and that they didn't have a pool, it was a vitality pool. Our stay was primarily centred on swimming with our son so it was hugely disappointing that we could not do that over the weekend. And instead we had to take turns to go down to use the Spa (And it was very couple orientated so it looked odd being on your own). Now from looking at the website and hotels.com website, it does say that it is over 18's but it needs to be alerted in a higher capacity, not in the same font. The Spa is beautiful (even though the hot tub broke down on the Saturday) and is so relaxing and at all times the staff were extremely apologetic about the situation. Another negative is that the Spa only allows 15 in at a time and so you need to book it if this occurs. On the saturday evening, it was very busy and my husband arrived down to the Spa, and was turned away as it was full. He booked it and got a phone call 20 minutes later but again this should have been explained to us when we booked in. And this was only January, what about peak season... All staff were brilliant, friendly and professional at all times, the food in Molly Darcy's and breakfast was fab and we really did enjoy our stay but unfortunately Mehr

We had a most wonderful 3 night break in the muckross park hotel, from the moment we booked in to our departure we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The staff were so helpful and friendly. The spa is heaven, total chillout, I felt as if I had a week away I was so relaxed when I got home. I have recommended to friends and colleagues and hope to get back there […] again. Mehr

Staff on arrival at the hotel were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel room was beautifully furnished and maintained. The staff were very helpful throughout the stay. Breakfast was delicious. The hotel is within walking distance of Muckross House and gardens. One of the entrances to the National Park is directly opposite the hotel. It is only […] a short drive to Killarney town centre. When we arrived we were checked in and got to our suite only to find an unmade bed and dirty glasses and towels. Informed manager and room was sorted but still took the initial awe of the suite away. Service on the whole good. We ordered breakfast in bed which was very nice but the serving waitress was somewhat surly with us. Other than these niggly […] things the hotel is lovely and the service on the whole good. Just wish the room had been ready or we would have waited and that way the full awe of the fabulous room. This hotel is well worth the cost, which I found very resonable. There is not one thing I could complain about. The location was great. Parking was not a problem. Very quiet, nice views, helpful staff. Visit Molly Darcy's next door. If I had to complain the ONLY thing would be a cracked tile in the bathroom. 5 star hotel felt more like at 4 star. TV in room didnt work properly with only a few channels on it for a 5 star you would expect satellite channels and a flat screen. Breakfast in the mornings staff never cleared the plates away from you after you eat which i have stayed in 3-4 stars before and they would clear away your plates. didnt find breakfast […] staff to be that friendly and selections of breads at breakfast was poor. Beautiful Hotel welcoming staff lovely spa

We could not have been happier with our stay. The service was warm and welcoming. We really enjoyed the spa area - private and just what we wanted after a day of hiking and biking in the national forest. We took a private tour of the Ring of Kerry through a contact given to us by the hotel which was also spot on.

The main advantage the Muckross Park Hotel has is that is right on the doorstep of Killarneys national park and you can start on the walking trails in peace and visit Muckross House grounds without crowds around. This hotel would be a perfect base for walkers and this hotel would do very well if its looked at providing packed lunches / guides/ trail […] transport etc as mangerton mountain trail is also nearby The main disadvantage of the hotel is that it is trying to sell itself as a 5 star hotel when it is not. What it is a fairly comfortable 4-3 star hotel. The hotels website makes a big deal about its Cloisters spa, but if you were to go to this hotel for that alone you would be very disappointed as the spa simply doesn't deliver - particuarly on cpmparison to other hotel spas. The pool area in particular is very poorly put together, as there are lots of steps under water that have hard edges and you can easily stub your toe (alot) - its as if the job to complete the pool area it was given to a bathroom tiler. The hot tub is pleasant and private, but the rest of the facilities are all a bit random - different types of steam rooms and novelty showers. on the plus side the staff are very nice and helpful but I think that be aiming for the 5 sta market (and failing) the Muckross would be better off becoming and excellent homely 3-4 star hotel looking after the type of gues that comes to kerry for the great outdoors - not for the (not so great) indoor spa Mehr

We got a great deal from hotels.com so thought wed get the broom cupboard! Was so wrong & was so happy to be.Our room was amazing,turn down service every night,handmade chocies every night,yummie breakfast every morning enough to fill you til tea time & service throughout ther hotel that was not by any means snooty but so discreetly professional, nothing […] was ever a problem.Looking forward to heading back to the kingdom & staying in the lap of luxury.Thank you so much to all at Muckross park for making our stay so pleasent Mehr

We stayed in the Muckross Park Hotel for 3 days on the final leg of our honeymoon this month and found all aspects of the hotel to be of the highest quality. The food (both bar and restaurant); room (we had a standard double); staff, spa etc. are in our opinion all outstanding. There are no negatives. Everything you would expect from a top quality hotel.

hotel was fabulous and most staff were extremely helpful and friendly, especially the restaurant and spa staff. there was a few minor nit picking points that although they didn't take from our trip i still would not expect to see in a five star hotel - large stain in top corner of wall in our room - our room was over a flat roof which had a vent or […] heater of some sort that constantly makes noise - the napkins in the restaurant were old and bobbled - the menu in the blue pool restaurant is extremely small - one of the receptionists was very rude when we requested two already stamped letters to be posted, i'm sure its not uncommon to ask staff to post letters - TV in room was not set up properly, channels missing, channels not in correct order and one night while we were watching a film fifteen mins before the end it switched to another channel....very irritating Mehr

My husband and I stayed at muckross park hotel for three nights and we really enjoyed our stay. The quality of service we received from start to finish was excellent, staff were friendly and very helpful at all times. Rooms were amazing and very comfortable. I will definitely return to this hotel, staff were very nice and extremely helpful. Possibly the best spa I have encountered, beautiful vitality pool and the outdoor hot tub is heavenly. This hotel is well worth a visit and I have recommended it to family and friends.

The Muckross Park Hotel and Spa is everything it says it should be, the hotel is fabulous with a beautiful reception area lovely restaurant and residents bar and the staff were extremely helpful and cheerful.The bedrooms are very spacious and luxuriously decorated. The bathrooms are beautifully decorated double sinks separate shower all marble tiled […] really well. The whole look and feel of the hotel is lovely, the Cloisters Spa is absolutely amazing really a beautiful place it would be worth the trip just to go there alone, the staff in the Spa is very helpful and pleasant couldn't wish for a nicer atmosphere.They are also offering deals on weekends with certain treatments at a discounted price for the weekend. For just €15 you can avail of the thermal spa and hot tubs etc for you entire stay well worth while.The only downside to the hotel was that it appeared one of the restaurant GB Shaws is closed! It certainly wasn't open for the duration of our stay which was the Aug Bank Hol wknd and Molly Darcy's were only serving food till 9pm but it appeared that no actually really ate there after 8.30 the pub was very quiet and I wouldn't rely on it for any atmosphere after 9pm! The food however in the pub was very nice and the food in the hotels Blue Pool restaurant was lovely from Breakfast at least as we dined in Killarney village on the other nights of our stay. I would definitely go back to the Muckross Park it is a really beautiful hotel and a wonderful place to stay. Mehr

One of those quick bookings that came up Trumps and a hotel that looks quite strange from the road but is just beautiful inside. Great location just outside of Killarney - which was perfect as you avoid the " tourist Centre" perfect for a walk down to the lakes after dinner or a visit to the ruined abbey : Rooms fantastic , massive lovely bed, very […] spacious room and ours even had own terrace! Staff brilliant and overtly helpful and food also lovely. Ive stayed in some beautiful hotels around the world and this Hotel is a real unexpected Gem. 10/10 Mehr

We spent four nights at The Muckross Park Hotel in July and we had a fantastic five star stay, The staff are extremly friendly, helpful and informative, The location is a great base for exploring Kerry there is lots of attrations close by, The food is excellent and very reasonably priced for a five star as are the drinks, the spa is fantastic for relaxation, […] overall we could not fault the hotel, shame we couldnt say the same for the Irish weather though. Staff were extremely welcoming and very friendly, Did everything they could to make our stay a very enjoyable one. It's in a lovely location where we could enjoy the surrounding lakes and fantastic scenery. The room was very nice and clean.
