The Pearl Hotel - San Diego

I loved the whole retro feel of the hotel and room. I was surprised how clean it was. The bar/resturant needs more variety on the menu.

Staff was super friendly and helped us find a local restaurant as the hotel was having a private food event the night we stayed there. The room was small but comfortable and we loved the design style of the place. We will definitely come back again. I am a stickler for clean rooms and this one was immaculate.

I loved staying at The Pearl. I had a great room overlooking the pool and was even able to watch the Dive-In movie from the comfort of my room. As a big fan of minimalist and Mid-Century Modern, I really enjoyed the decor. I stayed here knowing it wouldn't be a quiet getaway, so be warned if you're a light sleeper, this may not be the hotel for you. […] I was right above the bar/restaurant, so I could hear the music all of the time during my stay. I also really enjoyed having an iPod dock so I could queue up my own tunes on demand. The bed was very comfortable and I just wish my stay could've been longer. I really enjoyed being in my old neighborhood. I was born and raised in San Diego and spent most of my adult life in Ocean Beach. Mehr

It was very nice and comfy. Perfect location from where my meetings were. Loved the fish Barnaby in the room. : )

I've now stayed at the Pearl about 6 times. The only thing more impressive then the clean and stylish rooms are the awesome people that work there. I can see why I don't just meet travelers at the bar/restaurant but there are always local visitors as well. Great place with great people!

We have stayed here before. Every time we are enchanted. My only complaint is the single room chair. We were last here on the current chefs first week. He clearly has found his voice , his own take on the donuts and other legacy items . We will be back!

Overall it looks nice when you walk in. But, the bathrooms are terrible- there's no counter space & they are super old, a few dead ants on the floor and hair in the tub. Otherwise it seemed like it would be ok. But when we woke up in the morning we had bug bites all over our legs, and when we threw the comfortor back, there was a HUGE stain on it, with […] a few small stains around it. It almost looked like a pot of coffee was poured on it (let's hope it was coffee!). And when I called the front desk to let them know, the guy acted like he could care less. It was quite loud and had a cigarette smell, and being allergic to cigarettes I did not like that at all. The power went out when we woke up which put our getting ready routine back a little. When I went to check out the girl was a little rude.

So unique with an amazing vibe. I would come back to vacation like it was the 1960s.

This is a very cute hotel with an interesting bar/restaurant. Great dinner deals on Monday, 10 superior local brews on draft and "dive-in" poolside films on Wednesdays. Great location if you are trying to get out and experiance multiple places in San Diego as it is close to downtown yet convenient access to freeways to visit areas to the north like […] La Jolla as well. Loved the hotel, the bathrooms need some renovations though. I was a little surprised the room was smaller than the pictures portrayed it online, but overall it was a pretty cute room.

We were at the hotel on Christmas night. It was great fun.

Great spot for a quick romantic get away. My husband and I wanted a simple way to celebrate, mid week, for our 25th anniversary. Checked into the Pearl at 3. Had a delicious dinner in their lovely, romantic little restaurant at 7. Enjoyed the comfortable room until morning and then headed off to work. This was a pleasant surprise. Booked last min on chritmas eve. We decided to be spontaneous, booked the same day for a low rate. My girlfriend and I loved this place and the boutique surrounding. The only thing is I was charged for the accidentals and still have not been refunded back. But the hotel is still working on the processing of this. If you like hip retro hotels, this is 4 stars. The hotel rooms have lots of old and new features. Absolutely minimalist bathroom. Personally, I like to see a few more new things that look old this place is big on recycling. Pool & restaurant are amazing! Great drink menu and atmosphere. Location is on a busy street without much else around unless of […] course you are looking for liquor stores and tattoo parlors. I recommend to anyone who is 25-35, no kids, and is visiting friends in San Diego for the weekend that can show them around the rest of the city. In Point Loma with easy access to Ocean Beach. Mehr

The hotel looks old and a bit cheap from outside, but the room is nicely renovated. Displaying a glass bottled "special water" for $10+ is a what-d-heck. service is nice, but no complimentary breakfast, no coffee maker in the room. I don't feel so safe parking my car in the neighborhood though.

We recently stayed at The Pearl and loved the stay so much so we will return again specifically. We were lucky enough to check-in on a Wednesday and catch their dive-in movie while dining by the pool. There were a few areas that could use improvement (shower, although clean, appeared shabby; room quite noisy from thin walls perhaps; cocktail menu lackluster), […] but overall it was a great hotel. Friendly staff and efficient hotel. I highly recommend this hotel as a balanced quality and convenience.

The Pearl is cute and well kept, but out of the way for most things San Diego is known for. If you are visiting friends in Point Loma or need a place close to the airport, stay here. Otherwise, try something closer to downtown or La Jolla.

Indoor/outdoor carpeting in the room was a disappointment and the closet rod is over the drawer making it impossible to hang a dress or slacks without folding them. *Loved my Fish in the Room - great touch The Location was ideal and great water pressure and clean room. After checking in we went to the lounge for a glass of wine. The host refused to sit us at a table we requested. He motioned us to the back of the lounge but we wanted to sit near the pool. Again, I pointed out a table and he said "there are only two of you" and I pointed out that everyone at the other tables totalled only two and further asked if he […] was capable of counting past two. Why we we discriminated against.? edlderly white couple moderately dressed?? Our room was a 15x15 box with a mattress on the floor posing as a "platform bed", lumpy one side and totally compressed on the other with matching lumpy pillows. Hard and soiled Berbar carpet. A "desk" was bolted to the wall with a set of matching plastic metal leg chairs. The bathroom had vintage cracked tile complete with ants and leaky faucet. Free WiFi; no fridge or microwave. Music and crowd noise on Saturday night continued until 1am. CAUTION: The hot water will scald you. If you have young children, do not let them turn on the water. We notified the management but to no avail. The Pearl is conveniently located within walking distance of 3 liquor stores, tattoo parlor, and a Pyshic palm reader. This hotel is not handicap accessile to the second floor. If you are looking for cheap, well you found it. Mehr

Great, chic and very trendy place. Great service, great staff, front desk was awesome! Room was cute and cozy. Clean sheets and bathroom. Pool and lounge area was awesome. And we were there for Drive in Wed. and that was awesome! and it was close to everything 10 min to drive to anywhere in san diego. Sea World, Downtown San Diego, Mission beach, pacific […] beach, base, and all the amazing local restaurants in San Diego. Mehr

Unique hotel with excellent room furnishings. Nice lounge/dinner area. Very friendly staff. Close to the harbor. Excellent restaurants within walking distances.

Having lived in San Diego, we had never needed a hotel there so we were excited to find this place. We stayed there on a Friday night and found the place hopping when we checked in. A cool bar and restaurant down below with a clean, interesting room above. We enjoyed a drink and doughnut holes then a nice sleep. Would recommend.

I wanted to stay close to Humphrey's where I was attending a concert. The Pearl is less than 5 mins. away. I got a decent rate on the room and we stayed for 2 nights. The hotel is clean and I felt very comfortable in my room. Bonus: iPod dock station in room!

This hotel is certainly an old motel with a new twist. It looks nice, the dive-in theatre is cute. The bar is great didn't eat but wanted to. The room was small, the shower designed for those 5'8 and under. But we loved it.

I was looking for a relatively inexpensive hotel near the airport and the Pearl looked interesting. Upon arrival I was impressed with the bar and restaurant, which are always packed in the evenings and served a really decent meal. However, the rooms are definitely 2-star. I believe it said they were recently renovated but the bathroom seemed to have […] been missed. There was mildew on the tile floor, which wasn't even close to new, and the tub was decades old as well with the shower spiget mounted at about the 5' mark and I pretty much flooded the floor each time I showered due to the poor layout. I also noted that a dirty q-tip lay in the corner the enitre stay, somehow avoiding the housekeepers vaccuum 4 days in a row not including how many days it had been there prior. The internet wasn't working when I first got there and took a few phone calls before it was resolved and thankfully continued to work for the rest of my stay. My advice is this. If you want a good meal or to share some drinks this is a good place to stop by, and is the only reason I rated the Pearl a 3 and not a 2. If you need accomodations, keep looking. Mehr

We enjoyed our stay at the Pearl. The room was a little smaller than I expected and was clean and quite funky but the bathroom was a little dated and the shower water pressure wasn't very good. Our air con unit was quite noisy but it didn't really bother us (although light sleepers beware!). Our room had a lovely little fish in it! The room itself […] was quiet - even with people around the pool in the evening. The pool was a reasonable size and there were plenty of chairs and loungers. The staff were friendly and the reception area and bar were very clean. The Pearl is a short walk to the beautiful harbour which has some lovely restaurants and there are also a number of cheaper options close by (Arby's, McD's, Denny's etc) if required. The Pearl is quite a distance from San Diego centre by public transport but we were there for comic con and there was a free shuttle bus stop just one block away. If you want a city break you may want to choose a hotel closer to the centre of town but if you're happy to enjoy the sunshine by the pool and go on fishing trips then the Pearl is a great. Mehr

Before booking this room I looked at various hotels and motels before deciding to stay at the Pearl, my boyfriend was sold on it because every room has their own fish, which was pretty darn cool. The room was smaller than I expected but you don't really need a bigger room when all your going to do is sleep. Well we booked a room here since my gf likes boutique hotels and laid back atmosphere they usually provide. This hotel was not in the area we thought it was in, actually it was pretty far from what we expected. As it turns out that was a good thing. We weren't to far from Ocean Beach which is a fun experience in itself, and not to far from Pacific beach […] as well. They provide free beach crusier rentals and we had fun taking those out to get around quicker. Now the Hotel itself is in a somewhat run down area, and there isn't anything to see unless you bike for 30 minutes but we had an adventure because of it. Downstairs as all the other review say is fun. You can play board games get a drink and hang with a mixed crowd of people while enjoying a seat by the pool. The room is average, maybe a little below. It was clean (other than stain on sheet) and for the age it was descent. But we need to point out that the age does make a difference. The bathroom is dated, and the basic feel is a converted Motel 6 into a retro style hotel. But then again we didn't stay in the room long so those facts didn't bother me. The staff was friendly and very personable which makes up for the hotels state of disaray. I would recommend this hotel if you are open minded, enjoy people and music, and like the out of the box experience that you can't have at a huge hotel. Go have an adventure, get a bike and cruise to Ocean Beach.. just doing that makes the day rememberable.. LOL Mehr

Nicely decorated, very friendly staff, great pool. I had a very nice stay and the price was more than fair.

What a fun, different hotel! Location was a funky,urban feeling near beach vibe. Went for a run in the morning and realized how really close to the water we were. How can you go wrong with a hotel that provides a fish in your room? If you want something out of the ordinary, this is your place.
