This Motel is for those who have very little money or are frugal. It is basic. Not all rooms have refrigerators or microwaves. We stay for the price and convenience.

The key cards for room access don't work. I had a bare spot on the wall where a wall AC unit used to be. It was unattractive but wasn't really harmful. My bed was pretty hard. The toilet seat had scratches and chips. The overall condition of the room was so-so. I thought the staff was nice.

great room,clean, great locatio

Old motel sorely in need of updating. Largest room we've had in a motel. Fridge & microwave. Coffee pot, but no coffee or accessories. Tub very slippery. The pool water was green and looked as though it hadn't been used in years. Friendly staff and good breakfast offering. Wait until they rennovate the hotel. I was not happy with this hotel. The key didn't work because the door was broken and the expected me to sit in the room while they fixed it. I ask for a non smoking room I was put in a smoking. I was moved to another room the bathroom was not clean. Although I was not going to swim the pool was very dirty. I will not stay at this hotel again.

Wonderful service and excellent breakfast

I chose the Riverside Hotel as a last minute option because of the price, and the fact that I would not be spending much time in the room. I am not usually very picky, as I’ve stayed in cheaper/lower quality hotels before. This was by far the worst! Thank goodness I was not spending much time in THIS room. First of all, it smelled terrible. The room […] did appear to be clean, for what it was. Our particular room had a large hole in the wall. This is where I can only imagine an older A/C unit sat. Well, they covered the hole with a screen on the inside of the room and then covered the hole on the outside of the room with a piece of plywood. You can literally hear EVERYTHING that happens outside, and in the room next to you. So, do not talk about any money or anything of importance that you may have in the room if you don’t want EVERYONE outside to hear you. There were some pretty sketchy people hanging out around the hotel. Luckily, the doors were extra heavy, so I wasn’t too terribly scared that a criminal could kick it in. All in all, if you are a girl, do not stay at this hotel alone. It’s scary and from what everyone who I spoke with around the city told me -very dangerous. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. There are several other lower budget hotels down the street you can choose. If I had to re-do the situation, I would have spent the extra 20 or 30 bucks for a different hotel all together! Mehr

I stopped here for a night along the way home during a long trip. Not far from the highway, the room was spacious and the hotel was a nice place.

The room was as expected. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Check in very easy and cost a good deal.

For the price, the location can't be beat. This is a budget hotel, however the room is clean and functional. If you need lots of amenities, spend more and stay elsewhere. If you need a place to lay your head that is very close to downtown Columbia, this is the place. Cab ride is $5 to the Vista or Five Points.

IF YOU DON'T MIND THE ODOR YOU CAN STAND TO STAY. THE CARPET SMELLED AND ONE OF OUR ROOMS SMELLED LIKE IT HAD BEEN PEED IN. THE BREAKFAST WAS GOOD BUT COFFEE IN THE ROOM MEANT YOU HAD TO GO ASK FOR IT AND GET SUGAR...AND CARRY IT BACK TO ROOM. WE WENT AND GOT MULTIPLE AIRFRESHNERS. WE FINALLY LEFT EARLY AND DIDN'T STAY THE SECOND NITE BETTER TO DRIVE […] THRU THE NITE THAN TRY TO SLEEP Mehr

The Riverside Inn is an older hotel but it was clean and we felt safe there. The room was a bit small, but it was fine for a quick stay. We were impressed that there was a fridge and microwave in the room, too, since we didn't request that. We were able to get a good deal on a room here, which made it worthwhile, but I would not have paid full price […] for it. Mehr

This hotel gives the impression that you have entered into an old horror film. The setting, the condition of the room, the lack of amenities, and the creepiness all made for a visit to Columbia somewhat humorous. This is definitely not a place to stay with family, but if you're looking for a less expensive place to sleep while passing through the city, […] it serves as a bed and a shower. The hotel was super-easy to find, very convenient to USC and had plenty of convenient retail outlets in close proximity. The locale couldn't have been better for me. Check-in / check-out was prompt and without incident. I arrived late afternoon, had dinner in town, slept soundly and left very early the following morning; before "breakfast" was served. […] I'd stay there again for an overnight jaunt. The pool looked clean, was generally in good shape and folks were using it until it closed at 10PM. All that being said the place is old, isn't well maintained and has a distinctly "hotel no-tell" look. While my the room looked clean (neat, straight, well vacuumed) it didn't particularly "feel" that way. The door "stuck" badly, I had to plug in the bedside lamp (one of its two bulbs was burned-out), one of the two bath towels was damp almost wet) and musty and all the towels / bed linens were well worn. If you just need a bed and a place to shower for a night or two I'd say go for it. I will probably look elsewhere for an extended stay. Mehr

This hotel is not a luxurious hotel at all. However if you just need a place to sleep after touring Columbia it serves fine. A little dirty but not vermin infested. The pool was clean and comfortable and the location puts you in range of all the major attractions in the city. No frills; just a place to lay your head after a tired day.

This facility was a very good price for the location. The room was as advertised and very comfortable. The staff was accommodating and the continental breakfast was plentiful.

As long as you are not looking for a motel with an exercise room, hot tub, spa, etc, then this is a good Motel for a reasonable price. The staff is courteous and helpful. Upon mentioning that my wife was mildly handicapped they immediately changed our room to a handicap accessible room that was nicer than the room in which we had stayed on a previous […] visit. We are not picky or hard to please, just wanting a clean, safe place to spend the night, not a fortune. Mehr

This is not one of those luxury locations some people want but it is our favorite location in which to visit the city. We have stayed here off and on for years. The location is excellent, walking distance to overlooking the Congaree River, walking distance to a quiet passive public park, and walking distance (for the hardy) to downtown. It's a 50s style […] motel experience, with ongoing updating, but with all the charm of the old era of the automobile. The staff are always congenial and helpful and the brunch, while the usual continental cuisine, is always neatly presented in a quiet space. Don't go if you need "spit and polish" but do go for the ambience of another era and, best of all, an EXCELLENT VALUE for the price. Mehr
