Ich war auf Geschäftsreise in Helsinki unterwegs und fand das Hotel für diesen Zweck mehr als ausreichend. Die direkte Umgebung ist touristisch nicht ansprechend und wird von Einheimischen gerne als das "Kneipen- und Arbeiterviertel" angepriesen. Dennoch hat man abends und nachts ein hohes subjektives Sicherheitsempfinden auf den Strassen. Ich hatte ein Zimmer zum Sparpreis, es war sauber und neu. Einziger Knackpunkt: es hatte keine Fenster ! Das ist recht unkonventionell, hilft aber beim Schlafen, da Licht und Strassenlaerm effektive ausgeschlossen werden. Das Fruehstueck ist sehr zu empfehlen !

We used this hotel as a temporary solution on our roadtrip as we were not able to find any other hotel room in Helsinki for a reasonable price. Even in that function the hotel fitted perfect. It's easy accessable from anywhere, staff is friendly, rooms are functional.

Das Hotel liegt unweit des Flughafens Vantaa und ist damit problemlos mit dem Free Shuttle Bus erreichbar (Vorsicht: kein Taxi nehmen, da völlig überteuert!). Die Lage des Hotels ist zwar landschaftlich nicht gerade schön, aber die Anbindung mit dem Bus nach Helsinki City klappt wunderbar. Insgesamt war ich sehr zufrieden mit diesem Hotel - großes Zimmer, saubere Ausstattung, freundlicher, kompetenter Service und sehr gutes Essen. Das Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis ist sehr gut! Absolut empfehlenswert, vor allem für kurze Aufenthalte.

"Preis & Leistung stimmen"
Sehr gute Lage des Hotels im Hafen von Helsinki. Sehenswürdigkeiten und Restaurants sind zu Fuss erreichbar. Originelle Zimmer (ehemals Gefängnis)! Leider muss für das Parkieren am Hotel Euro 20 pro Tag bezahlt werden!

Das Hotel ist ein ehemaliges Gefängnis. Die Flure haben genau diese räumliche Struktur, aber eben in einem sehr angenehmen Ambiente. Es gibt auch noch ein ehemalige Zelle zu besichtigen. So kann man schon mit der Wahl der Unterkunft sich auf die Geschichte der Stadt Helsinki einlassen.

Originelles Hotel (früher Gefangenenhaus), ansprechend adaptiert. Einzig der Pub und der dazugehörige Sitzbereich sind etwas misslungen, da allzu düster und unbequeme Sessel. Das Hotel liegt auf einer Halbinsel, in einem Bezirk mit herrlichen Jugendstil-Wohnhäusern in ungewöhnlicher Dichte. Außerdem lässt sich bei einem Spaziergang rund um die Halbinsel […] die Natur genießen. Das Stadtzentrum ist nicht allzu weit entfernt; auch zu Fuß erreichbar. Das Hotel ist absolut empfehlenswert. Der Flair des alten Gefängnisses ist auf jeden Fall ein Highlight! Das Hotel ist ruhig gelegen auf einer Halbinsel, gute 15 Gehminuten vom Hauptbahnhof entfernt. Bei schlechtem Wetter kann man auch auf die Straßenbahn umsteigen, die Haltestelle liegt fast vor den Hotel. An Sauberkeit und Service sowie dem Frühstück habe ich überhaupt nichts zu beanstanden. […] Das gesamte Personal war freundlich und zuvorkommend. Für einen Städtetrip (weswegen ich dort war) aber auch für Geschäftskunden kann ich das Hotel nur empfehlen. In diesem ehemaligen Gefängnis schläft es sich sehr gut. Tram direkt vor der Tür daher in 5 Minuten im Zentrum Helsenkis. Stadthafen mit Markthalle zu Fuß erreichbar.

"Ruhige Lage und trotzdem nahe beim Zentrum"
Das ehemalige Gefängnis wurde originell und sehr komfortabel in ein Hotel umgebaut. Direkt vor dem Hotel befindet sich die Tram Nr. 4 die in wenigen Minuten direkt ins Zentrum fährt. Das Zimmer war sehr geräumig und geschmackvoll eingerichtet, das Bad groß und top modern gestylt und die Regendusche war ein Hit. Zwei große Fenster ließen viel Licht herein. […] Unser Zimmer lag in einem kleinen Nebentrakt, ein zufälliger Blick in ein Zimmer(ehem. Zelle) im Haupttrakt war eher nicht so toll. Das Hotel wird von einem schönen Garten mit Sitzgelegenheiten umgeben. Sehr ruhige Lage in der Nähe zum Fährterminal. Das Frühstück lässt keine Wünsche offen. Mehr

Tolle Hotel - lustige Idee. Aber zwei Sachen die man wissen muss: 1) Die Fenster kann man nicht öffnen und stattdessen sind die Zimmer mit A/C ausgerüstet, was Durchzug zu Folge hat (und wovon die meiste Eurupäer krank werden, da die nicht daran gewöhnt sind) 2) Obwohl das TV top modern (Samsung Flatscreen) ist, ist es extrem langsam zu bedienen, und […] es is viel zu hoch auf den Wand gehängt (gibt eine steife Nacke). "Schöne Momente"
Spezielles Ambiente, da umgebautes Gefängnis. Zimmer eher klein aber sehr sauber und zweckmässig. Gemütliche Gartenbar im Innenhof. Frühstücksbuffet gut. Lage, ca. 10min zu Fuss in die Innenstatd oder zum Hafen, jedoch Tramhaltestelle gleich neben dem Hoteleingang. Daher sehr zentral und doch ruhig.

"Nice stay in the prison"
We enjoyed our one night stay at this hotel - it is a short tram ride away from the railway station. The room was nicely decorated - I really loved the heated tiles in the bathroom! Breakfast was a good selection, don't forget to visit the jail cell located at the end of the jailbreak restaurant!

the hotel has a really nice theme, tram 4 is easy for city centre, great breakfast. it's a bit cold since it's a old building tho. and cleaning persons didn't do their jobs in some days... Overall a nice place to stay.
"Awesome Hotel - Jail and Great Location"
The Best Western Katajanokka was a great hotel and a very cool concept being transformed from a jail. The breakfast and surrounding location was great as well and a very short tram ride to anything else you want to see. Would highly recommend a stay here if you are in the Helsinki area.

"Hotel Katajanokka - very nice and unique"
Yes it was a jail and therefore is kind of unique. Reasonable rates and efficient staff. Breakfast is very good. Nice little gym. Trolley line right outside the door in case you don't rent a car - get the daily or multiple day pass if you are going to use it more than once. Only negatives are that the rooms are on the smaller side (it was a jail cell […] after all) and the in-house restaurant was little pricey. Overall I would definitely recommend this as a fine place to stay! Mehr

Everything was great but there is one thing i couldn't get along with. I could hear a sound for the whole time and i assume it's the alarm of the hotel. it's a very light one, but continuously intermittent...at first i thought i had a problem to my ears, but then i slowly realized that it was everywhere in the hotel. An extraordinary ensemble on a peninsula in a quiet environment - yes, this should be sufficient for the description of an ideal caribbean holiday resort. However, forget about the Caribbean Sea - I am talking about a very good hotel location in the Baltic Sea. Or to be more detailed, the place is Helsinki, the peninsula is Katajanokka, and the resort […] is a former prison built in 1837. It is located within walking distance to the city centre, downtown harbour basins, and several ferry terminals. There is tramway line 4 in front, and a very good beer pub "Poseidoon" is not far away down the road. The hotel is to be recommended without any restriction, to say the least, so are also its restaurant and bar. There is free WLAN and LAN available. Mehr

I have nothing bad to say about this Hotel, everything was just fine. Breakfast was very good. Near to the see and near the city of Helsinki. We were there in February and it was a lot of snow and it was great but i can imagine this place is really nice in summer. It was a experience to live in a old prison :)

This former prison has been cleverly converted into a nice hotel, in a quiet part of Helsinki. It is easy to get to, right next to the number 4 tram stop. The reception was welcoming and friendly. The rooms are of a good size and the shower is excellent. The Jailbird Restaurant in the basement is also really nice. Dinner and breakfast was really good. How often are you in a hotel that really sets itself apart by being something very... spectacularly different! Katajanokka hotel is unique; you are in an old jail that used to be in that use still few years ago. Everything looks and feels like a 1900 Century jail; the aisles, the doors, the cellar, you name it. And then you enter your cell (room) and […] it is very modern, stylish and comfortable. Wow! Stayed for two nights in October, 2011. Hotel is in the old town, great location and looks amazing from the outside. Only down side was the very small double room we had and the bathroom being basically a shower, WC and tiny sink in the same wet room. The beds were very small too. Everything was great except that out room was not in the 'jail' area - it was was more ordinary tan I expected. Be sure to ask for a jail room if that is important for you.

Very nice property, comfortable, great bathroom. Interesting concept - converted prison. Restaurant and bar were good. Breakfast excellent. Good location, easy to catch tram just in front, very close to walk to central downtown. Only downside - not many restaurants in immediate neighborhood. Highly recommend this property.

Nice job of converting a prison into a hotel...standard room was equivalent of two cells with nicely done bAthroom facilities added. Jailhouse restaurant was very good. We usually search outside the hotel for a restaurant but reviews were good so we tried it and were not at all disappointed. breakfast had lots of choices including a chef waiting to […] make your egg order if you so chose. Would highly recommend it, especially if you are arriving by ferry as you can easily walk to hotel. Even train station was only about 25 minute walk. Mehr

One of the best boutique hotel i have stayed in. Cant believe its Best Western. I am not a fan of BW chain. Its modern, comfy, friendly & way above my expectation. Not much of a Jail feel since its been completely remodeled but no disapptment at all. Not much atmosphere at the bar but convenient location.. tram stop right infront of the hotel. The fact that this was a prison until 2003 was the attraction for me. The room had free internet and the hotel provided a very long ethernet cord so you could use your lap top anywhere in the room. The bathroom was large. You also had an in room safe to use at no charge. The free hot breakfast was great. I didn't find any eating places close by, but […] there is a tram stop right in front of the hotel that could take you anywhere. I can't say enough about how helpful and cheerful the staff was during our stay. The hotel was often very busy yet the staff maintained their cool as they helped visitor after visitor with problems, inquiries, restaurant recommendations, etc. We had several situations that they were particularly helpful with, and always asked the next day how things […] had gone. "Hotel Katajanokka - Downtown Helsinki"
The hotel was very good and only about 3 years old. It is a converted county jail that they use to thier advantage keeping the halls and stairs in prison style. Some doorways have bars on both sides for image. They have the jailhouse newletter, the Jailbreak bar and resturant, and the Jailyard terrace. The rooms are bright and new with modern lighting […] and a nice wall to wall shower. They have a desk with free internet cable hookup. They are located 3 blocks and 10 minutes from the Viking line ferry to Tallin and Stockholm I think. The number 4 tram line will get you to the center of the city in about 5 minutes. Very comfortable beds and good blackout curtains. I enjoyed my stay. Mehr
A truly wonderful hotel; unusual but great setting, large rooms and bathrooms, relaxed but still efficient service, easy enough distance from centre of city. Great value for a 4 star hotel.

"Great value for money"
It was fun to be in hotel that was previously a prison. Teh hotel is well renovated / refurnished. It was very clean an dcomfortable. We were super happy with the first room (310), but a little disappointed with the second one as the second bathroom was much smaller and the door kept getting stucked (313). So it really depends on what room you get. […] That said, they were both impeccably clean and comfortable. Rooms were also of reasonable size. Breakfast has a good selection. Great value for money and will stay here again if in Helsinki. Mehr
