"4 Tage in NO"Bewertet von Katrin K. aus "Stuttgart, Germany" am 31. Mrz. 2012

"Needle in the haystack"
I was amazed on how nice and well maintained the property is. Tim did a terrific job of checking me in. Breakfast was light continental - Nothing fancy. Nice location in the garden district and a block off the street car.
"Gem out of New Orleans proper!"
Off the beaten path Gem!! If you are familiar with New Orleans and the St Charles street car, this is an awesome mansion to stay in. Tim, the manager is very helpful and so nice. We flew out late and were able to leave bags as we toured the city for a few last hours. The decor is gorgeous and we felt like we were living back in 1854.
"A real jewel"
Visited New Orleans for first time and the high light of my trip was the Magnolia Mansion. I just happened to find it on Hotels.com and how lucky was I. It is absolutely beautiful and regal, but comfortable at the same time. Loved the room, the bad was really comfortable. Felt like I had stepped back in time and this time I got to be Scarlett O'hara […] (before the war!) Would definitely recommend this hotel. Mehr
"old, pretty, felt like no one else was there"
The mansion is nice but too quiet. We did not see anyone else at all. Bed was too soft and worn. Mansion is clean and pretty. But totally boring. You catch yourself whispering whenever you leave the room.
"Magnolia Mansion what a treat!"
Beautiful building filled with antiques and friendly people. Assorted tea/coffee, fresh fruit, cereal and pastries start the morning. It is a good walk to the French Quarter (1.5 miles) but only a block away from the street car and main parade route on St Charles whose trees are adorned with Mardi Gras beads all year! Lovely quiet neighborhood close […] to some excellent restaurants like Commander's Palace birthplace of some famous chefs about 5-10 minute walk away. The Garden District is a whole other dimension from the French Quarter and we love them both...definitely will return. Carla B. from Haunted History Tours gives a wonderful walking tour of the neighborhood starting at Lafayette Cemetery #1 about 5-10 minutes away. Mehr
"The sort of place you want to keep secret"
It made little sense that there were extra children's beds built into alcoves in our room because this place is meant for child-free romance. We loved it.
"A Lovely Getaway"
Magnolia Mansion is, as it suggests, splendid southern hospitality! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, and look forward to inviting friends from around the US to join me there for a New Orleans weekend!!!

"158 Year Old Mansion with a lot of history"
A nine room B & B Each room distinct from one another. A very historic building said to be mildly haunted. Par for New Orleans. Staff was extemely helpful and accomodating. Clean and Quiet Unfortunately, this old house is up for sale.

"Magnolia Mansion - overall a great experience"
We spent two nights at Magnolia Mansion in the Garden District of New Orleans. Clean room; great history; good spot for a romantic getaway. Tim, the caretaker, was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this destination to others.
"What a find!"
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Magnolia Mansion during a weekend trip to New Orleans. It was my first time in the city, and I'm so happy we stayed here! If you're looking to get away, but still be close to the sights without being stuck in the noise and chaos of the French Quarter, I would highly recommend this place. The setting is quiet and romantic. […] Rooms are comfortable and immaculately clean, and the hotel manager, Tim, was incredibly helpful and great to talk to. The mansion itself gives you a sense of New Orleans' history. Walking distance to Commander's Palace & Lafayette Cemetery, and about a 40 minute walk from the French Quarter. Plenty of street parking. The next time I go to New Orleans I will definitely be staying at this hotel. Great value, beautiful place! Mehr
"Very Pleasant Experience"
We were very satisfied with our experience in staying at the Magnolia Mansion. It is a quaint old-style mansion with lots of character (long hallways with statues arrayed along the length), high ceilings, and large, imposing wooden doors. The bed was very comfortable and though are particular room was on the small side, any larger would have been a […] waste. There's even a movie collection on VHS for those who are nostalgic for that sort of thing. The mansion is situated in a pleasant neighborhood with lots of joggers and people out enjoying the weather and the sights. The only way the location could possible be improved would be if the mansion was located in the middle of the French Quarter, but it'd ideally located between the French Quarter and uptown locations such as Tulane and the Audubon Zoo. The staff was very friendly and talkative, and gave several excellent recommendations of things to do in the area. If there's anything I would suggest, it would be to provide the option of a hot breakfast at some point. The free continental breakfast is nice enough (the coffee was definitely welcome), but a cooked breakfast option has always been a highlight at other similar establishments. Even so, there are some excellent breakfast places around the location, and we made use of those. Mehr
"mansion blues"
the room was too small for all our luggage and the air conditioning was very noisy and there was no possibility to open a window to let in fresh air. breakfast was served too late so we ate out. sheets were not hotel quality, very thin. no provision to make own cup of coffee or tea. late fees if arriving after 6.30pm which sometimes cannot be helpe […] d. "Stay at least one night so you can see inside!"
This was a fun place to stay, it's very grand looking from the outside. The inside is beautiful, dark red painted walls with glistening chandeliers and different parlors to sit and relax in. This place is themed so each room is different. I stayed in the pirate style room, not a big room but was sufficient for one person for one night. I stayed on the […] 2nd floor and the staircase looks like something out of Gone with the Wind. There is no lift though and I wouldn't advice this place to anyone in a wheelchair as you have plenty of steps to go up just to get in the front door. The proprietor was very nice and let me check in early so I could unload all of my stuff before heading to the French Quarter. The website on hotels.com is not updated though as it reads that they have safe parking. Well the proprietor said that their parking lot had been bulldozed but street parking was available. I was able to park right out front. Other than that they had free wifi, and a fridge in the room which is mandatory with me. It's more on the quiet side, they don't want folks making a ruckus there. I wouldn't advise bringing children either. More of a place for couples and a single person to just chill. They do have a plethora of rules though because they don't want people trashing the place. It was a fun place to stay and I would recommend it. Looks like a great place for a wedding reception or something along those lines, at least for picture taking purposes. Mehr
"Very cool place to stay"
We had a great time at the Magnolia Mansion. It was a step out of our comfort zone, as we're used to the large hotels chains and had never stayed in a bed and breakfast or smaller inn. We were very comfortable and happy there and will definitely be back. It's convenient in that it is right off of the St. Charles Streetcar line, which leads right into […] downtown and the French Quarter. The room was always comfortable and clean and the property was exceptionally quiet and calm. Mehr
"Lovely"
Great for retirees and romantics - not for kids!
"An oasis in the Garden District"
Tim made us feel very welcome from the moment we walked up the stairs to this beautiful home. The room we had (Moulin Rouge) was spacious, clean, comfortable and true to its pictures on the website. Resplendent in deep red colors -- what a hoot. The (very) high ceilings gave it an added sense of space. Very quiet too. The location was perfect -- in […] the Garden District, a block from the trolley line. Taxis come 5 minutes after we call them. With my apologies to Arnold -- we'll be back. Mehr
"Garden District Hotel"
The Magnolia Mansion is wonderfully situated at the edge of the Garden District. It is lovely, and Tim, the manager, is a great resource and storyteller. The room was small but well appointed. The only problems were the breakfast, which was very plain, and the list of rules handed to us at check-in, which included warnings about a $3000 charge for damage […] and which was very off-putting in a hotel that is trying to position itself as a Garden District grande dame. On the whole, though, it was a lovely place and a good value. Mehr

"Quiet and Secure"
We came for a 2 day getaway from Austin. Tim was there to greet us and gave us some great suggestions on where to eat/drink/see music- we appreciated that so much! The Napolean Room was quaint, but big enough for 2. Very opulant decor as well- but just added to that "grand" atmosphere of NOLA. I would recommend this for older couples, or events.

"Magnolia Manson, beautiful old world charml"
We loved the old creaky wood floors, the creaky armoire, the beautiful antique furniture, the swooping tub, and the excellent verandah during the rain; the only item we didn't get to experience was a visit from a ghost; The location to St Charles is very convenient, and we definitely recommend visiting Houston's restaurant which is just a few blocks […] away Mehr
"Magnolia Mansion in the beautiful Garden District"
We wanted t experience the ambiance of New Orleans so chose to stay in a B & B instead of a franchise hotel. We were very pleased with the beauty of our 150 year old mansion! The rooms were very quiet and the bed was one of the most comfortable that we ever slept in on vacation. The proprieter was very knowledgeable about New Orleans and helpful in […] helping plan our stay. Mehr
"Très Eric Burdon"
Spectacular Southern colonial architecture outside and bombastically furnished inside--which together make it worth every penny. Also very quiet, being a full block away from busy St. Charles. Our only complaint was that the breakfast and bathroom accessories were cheap and unworthy. But otherwise highly recommended.
"Great Location"
The Magnolia Mansion is perfectly set in the heart of the Garden District. Walking distance to great restaurants and shopping. The Magnolia no longer has parking on the grounds, street parking only, but we never had issue finding a good parking spot. Loved it.
"Perfect honeymoon getaway!"
What fun! Magnolia Mansion was the perfect honeymoon getaway in New Orleans! The mansion is gorgeous, the room was fun and it was easy to get to all the hot spots in New Orleans from the mansion. We felt safe and secure with the privacy gates and it was wonderful to stay in a child-free place during our honeymoon.
"Magnolia Mansion - quintessential New Orleans"
Based on the photos I thought this would give me a true New Orleans experience, and it did not disappoint - and then some. (I would not have been surprised had Lestat emerged from one of the rooms). The most courteous staff I have ever encountered, felt like staying in a museum. Kept cool despite the muggy hotness outside. About a 30 min walk from the […] downtown, or a streetcar stop conveniently close. I highly, highly, highly recommend this to anyone wanting a quiet (and overtly romantic) getaway. Mehr
"What a beautiful and quiet place"
The place was so romantic and beautiful. I will recommend this place to anyone. The host was excellent and very friendly. Breakfast was good. We felt like king and queen in the mansion.
"Great stay"
We had a great stay. The mansion is beautiful and Tim was a great host. He knew the city very well. We were in town house hunting and he gave us great suggestions for neighborhoods. Only one block from the St. Charles Street car which made it easy to get uptown and down to the French Quarter.
"Advertised facilities"
In spite of advertising parking on site ,this facility was not available!
"What an amazing place!"
If I ever went back to NOLA and had the opportunity to stay here again I wouldnt hesitate! What a beautiful place! The staff was great and the Mansion was amazing! 1 block from the street car that drops you off at Bourbon St. Cant beat it!!! Definitely recommended!
Fabulous B & B. It allowed us a taste of the " Lifestyles of the rich and famous "
"Location. Location. Location"
This place is perfectly situated between the French Quarter and the Garden District. Very easy to hop on the St. Charles Trolly in either direction. Cemeteries, French Market, Cafe du Monde, etc. Only a 15 minute stroll to Commanders Palace, Sandra Bullock's home, Anne Rice's former house and more. Also, one of the most comfortable beds we've ever […] slept in ;-) Mehr
"very nice stay"
Nice place for a visit.
Highly recommended...very New Orleans...staff was very attentive...next time I am in New Orleans I will definitely stay at the Magnolia Mansion.....

"Magnolia Mansion-Step back in Time"
Wonderful stay not far from the French quarter. The grinding room (moulin rouge) is comfortable and interesting. Would go back again!
"Magnolia mansion,New Orleans the right way"
The Mansion was beautiful. Our room was clean and very comfortable. We had a fridge in the room, the bathroom was very spacious and all decorated very appropriately. There were also movies that you could grab and watch in your bedroom! The manager was always very attentive and made sure our stay was the best possible. Breakfast was simple but delicious […] and ready for us. Best of all it is very conveniently located one block away from St Charles Ave. where the streetcar can take you to the french quarter, garden district houses and audubon park! Taxi charged us 8 dollars from the mansion to the french quarter. I have stayed in many luxurious hotels and let me say that Magnolia Mansion does not dissapoint in any way and I would recommend it to anybody who wants to have a great time in New Orleans. Beautiful hotel and above excellent service. Mehr
"Magnolia Mansion NOLA"
Built in 1857 - what a treasure! The Garden District of New Orleans is beautiful as has many neighborhood shops and eating places. This hotel had beautiful piano music to welcome you and a very friendly and responsive staff. The area was very safe and the extra gates provided added security. To sit on the huge porch and sip coffee from my wicker chair […] made my Southern Belle dreams come alive! Mehr
"A quiet place nearby French Quarter"
It's about 5 min street car ride from Canal street (end of French Quarter), nearby the amazingly beautiful and quiet (and loaded with fancy restaurants) Uptown and Garden district (located at the end of Garden district). 3 day public transportation pass is $12/person so you can use it everywhere.
"magnolia mansion"
"don't tell anybody"...but this is a beautiful 1800's hotel..excuse me ....not hotel...MANSION. 12ft tall ceilings throughout and a few modern conveniences. It is just 1 short block off the St. Charles trolley line, about midway between the quarter and the zoo. Excellent food within walking distance. Parking is free and the rooms are very clean and […] cozy. Take your camera, this MANSION is very tastefully furnished with period antiques and very photogenic. It is often booked for large weddings and receptions. This "hotel" is best suited for adults and couples as the rooms are very small, cozy, and ...romantic. Mehr
"great experience"
the hotel was very unique. the staff was very nice and extremely helpful. Only wish the hotel was closer to the french quarter, but other than that our stay was great.
"Garden District Gem"
We had a great time and were treated incredibly warmly. Our room was cozy and very clean, and the mansion is a beautiful place to get the real feel of southern New Orleans living. Just a block from the St. Charles Streetcar ride into the Quarter and walking distance to Garden district antique shops and restaurants. We will stay there again!
"awful experience"
the "inn keeper" feels like he really doesn't want anyone there...really cold and unwelcoming. no help with bags, really below average experience. i would NOT recommend.

We felt like we had the place to our selfs. A key to the front door and gate to come and go as we pleased.
"Magnolia Mansion - New Orleans"
The Mansion was more beautiful and charming than my husband and I imagined. The manager, Tim, was an absolute delight.
"Magnolia Mansion"
A different place with a different feel but very New Orleans! Good location for quiet but neighborhood feel. Enjoyed the over the top decorations and the genial host!
