This hotel was perfect for what I needed. It was clean and roomy. Front desk was courteous and helpful. Location was nice. just a short trolley ride to downtown and Beale street. Trolley stops about a block from hotel. Overall it was a great stay!

Overall, I was pleased with Best Western Gen X in Memphis, it was close to Beale Street and not to far from attractions and the price was nice. The service was very good, no complaints, the hotel is in good condition, the rooms were nice, but the linens had some stains on them. The pillows were soft. The Trolly that runs down to Beale Street runs right in front of the hotel whiich was very convenient. If I go back to Memphis I will use them again. Mehr

We booked at the last minute, to be nearer the city centre and were given the room assigned for disabled guests which was completely ok for us. Reception employees were very friendly and extremely helpful. Only thing we couldn't rate the hotel on was breakfast as we decided to have a lay in!!Would definitely stay again.

I travel for business and found this hotel convenient to local music and restaurants (very short drive or $10 taxi) as well as easy access to main roads. Clean, comfortable and better than many hotels at higher price points.Front desk person Linda was VERY helpful. Will stay again

upon arrival, staff was very friendly and went out of her way to be helpful. Breakfast could have been better, seemed apple juice was watered down, and seemed corners were cut. Close to places we wanted to see and visit.

Nice quiet hotel with great service. A short walk from the 1920 trolley system that's pretty cool and economical. Front desk staff was terrific on all shifts, very accommodating and knowledgable about the area. Breakfast was the usual hot and cold stuff.

Yes, the hotel is older, but our room was top-notch. Location is good, close to trolley line downtown. The trolley quits running at 5 p.m. on Sundays, so we caught a taxi back to the hotel. If you're there over a Sunday, be sure to head across the street to Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church, an African-American congregation that is wonderful. The Best Western Plus: GenX Inn was a great facility to stay at when visiting Memphis. The hotel is located 2 blocks from a trolley station, which made traveling downtown fairly simple. Not very clean, a lot of construction going on. First 4 keys to my room did not work. There was brown liquid in the sink when I first got to the room (gross!). The toilet wasn't very clean, either. Too bad I didn't go with one of the many other hotels down the street. I am a frequent business traveler, and this was by far my worst stay of the year.

You can stay in downtown Memphis and pay way higher prices or travel 2 miles to this hotel and get the same quality for much less money. I booked a King room, but they were down to only one room and gave me double Queen at no extra cost. As far as location, it is less than 2 miles from Beale St. (less than a $10 cab ride). The first thing I noticed was how clean the room looked. The sheets and towels were spotless and smelled clean. Ample hanging space for clothes and a full ironing board and iron. The hotel was basic, but a happy medium between a Super8 and the Westin. So, unless you wanna pay big bucks to stay closer to iconic places in Memphis, this was a good deal. It was literally about 2 miles from Beale Street. So the taxi cab costs were minimal. Once in Beale street, you can spread out and get to other places like that are "Must Do's" […] in Memphis. The staff was EXTREMELY helpful. They assisted me with getting a cab faster than if I had called for a cab, they helped me research things I couldn't find on my own quite often, and they recommended places to go that aren't on the tourist books. The room was basic but it's better than the Super 8, Motel 6, or anything like that. The internet connection is great which is really good if you need to research trip reports, places to go, and places to eat. At first it seemed like I was driving into a bad part of town, but there are actually medical schools around, and there are less homeless people cruising the streets as compared to Beale Street. If you were to stay at the Westin, you might get hit by the homeless (constantly) as soon as you step outside the hotel...but live much better in your room. Trade off? The breakfast was free...you can make yourself an egg McMuffin and some cereal. I think you could also make waffles. There aren't much chairs but, you can eat it in your room. Niece room. Was there only for a day. Continental breakfast was horrible. Bring your own water, they will charge you for it at breakfast. Great staff and nice room. The location is not in the best neighborhood, but close to downtown.. I would not recommend families to stay here.

I was nervous about the location and previous car break- ins. What I realized is that there are MANY rundown areas of Memphis and you may find a detention center next to a mansion. We were fine at this location...used the trolley AND had the advantage of a car. We thought the air conditioner may have caused some congestion...that was our main complaint. […] I appreciated having a refrigerator in the room. Cute hotel. Beautifuly renovated. Upon checkin the Mgr/recptionist was on her I-phone and was too busy with that to even look at me or ask my name! The room was fantastic. however no towels to shower with. elevators are HOT no ac in them. and they are very slow. Internet was not working for the first 3 hours after check-in but was fixed. The refridgerator […] froze my drinks! Excellent! I booked during Elvis week so the rates were WAY HIGH. but worth it. Get there early so you can get a parking spot in the parking lot! Mehr

The ok rating for the staff at the Gen X does not cover the day manager who was most eager to please and did whatever she could to make my stay as good as possible. Kudoos to her! One couple I met there complained about the location being further out of town than they anticipated, but the Madison Street trolley stop is only a couple of blocks away with the trolley running quite often from early morning to late evening and the ride into Memphis is short. Had I known about that the first night, I would have gone into town for dinner instead of settling for a meal at a diner I found about 5 blocks from the Gen X, not a comfortable area for walking very far. Maybe its just a Memphis thing but security seemed very tight all over this part of town. However, we had no trouble. While it was a few miles away this hotel lead to easy access to Beale Street and other parts of town. We liked the set up of the room and it was a comfortable stay. Room was clean and fresh. The hotel is small so no issue/wait in regards to parking, elevator, breakfast, front desk check-in etc. The main inconvenience was no rollaway beds on-site. We had 3 ladies in a king size bed and would have been prepared with an air mattress had we known they did not have any rollaways in the hotel at all.

My hotel experience was very good. The only thing that i didnt like was that there werent any towels in the room when we checked in; however, the nice girl at the front desk apologized and explained to me that they had a full house the night before and was running at little behind. Had a wonderful time both in Memphis and staying at the Gen X Inn, it had that wonderful 'family-run' atmosphere that I thoroughly enjoy when staying at a Hotel, I wasn't just a customer, I was welcomed and treated as a friend. Also, great proximity to downtown, a cab downtown is only 8 bucks! 10/10!

The room was clean and smelled fresh.. My husband has a walking disability and the motel was easy for him to get into. Our room was nice and large making it comfortable for him to move around in the room with easy access to the bed and bath room. I liked that the bath room and stool were separate from the sink and vanity area. The room was quiet. The […] mattress was uneven as if one side had been slept on more than the other. We had only two wash cloths in the room and I wash my face morning and night and I do not like to use the same cloth more than once. The continental breakfast was limited but satisfying. We live in eastern Shelby County and we attend numerous events in downtown and midtown Memphis. At the end of the evening it just makes sense to make a short trip to the Hotel rather than a half hour trip home after a night of entertainment. We don't Drink and Drive so we do the smart thing and stay at the Gen-X Inn!
